For DCS though, what’s the point? On most reasonably modern systems DCS is heavily GPU-limited.

Not what i'm reading .

Yeah , Noctua is what i'm looking at...thx

Me too, my cpu is still shipping or I had hoped to get my new pc built this weekend ????, but the cool differences between water and nh-d15 seem marginal, even jayz was impressed and linus.

So if you are going air then, yep then you will have company with your nh-d15.

Regarding cpu vs gpu, I'm certainly cpu locked on my current platform so I'm hoping that the upgrade will make a difference... We shall see fingers crossed!

Water and DH-15, You should better say 240er AIO's and NH15 are on par, that is about true.

Once you leave the comfort zone of past, standard TDP's, where you would not pull more than say 100-175w but end up easily between 200-300w I don't see a future for Air Cooling unless the Thermosyphon gets released and can cope with that.

Even if they ( Air cooling of any form ) do cope with it, they dump all that hot air into the case.

Check my sig. I have a 9700 with a 1080. My 9700 is running stock and never maxed out, it's most certainly the 1080 that's my bottleneck.

Thank you . That's precisely why i want a 9700k vs 10700k . And good point re case . I'm on it :)

Thanks for that . Point taken . I plan to drive a 3070 with the new cpu .

same here, I'm still using a 1080 with my 9700k. I'd love to have a 2080ti, but I refuse to pay the nVidia extortion rates... some day I'll upgrade the GPU.

Thanks, my CPU is still in Holland :( according to parcel tracking ... NVM(should be here next week :( )...

For a case i went with I have a Corsair 680X Case with full load of fans (3x120 front. 2 x 140 top, 2 x 140 bottom and 120 back, in pull through config) if that doesn't keep it provide enough airflow ... not sure what else i can do :)

Nice tower !

The only thing I never liked from Corsair is their thin steel. For that price I could expect a sturdy tower like a Chieftec was back in the days. Unfortunately no vendor meanwhile has such quality.

Hey, they now have RGB !

Under normal gaming load 200-300w will not be hit. Only during stress tests with an 9900k on 5GHz+. So I dont see a problem using a quality air cooler over water for daily use.

Casefans help with the hot in air in the case.

Cpu arrived and built, the case was easy to build in and is pretty as a picture. The air flow in the case is fine, but the glass front panel, not the side panel, kind makes you run hotter than you need to, and I am considering removing it.

That with my fan arrangement, the 9700k easily clocks at 5.0ghz on air, running prime 95, I got a max temp under full load of 85c and the average load was 75c, playing dcs it really doesn't break 68.

I suspect the case front panel costs me about 5-10c degrees in temp, mostly because of the airflow. But it's so pretty... :)

Knowing what I know now if I were spending the same again I would probably go with a different case. But it is so pretty...

And I have just started saving for the graphics card upgrade... As that is where I am now blocked as Mr_sukebe, observed, it's fine, my goal was to get my cpu cycles steady under 11ms frame rate and it easily crushes that.

So mission complete, mostly happy... Now just that front panel... But it's pretty...

Hi.

Ive got a 9600K and not a 9700K, so two cores less.

I do use a Noctua NH-D15S.

Yesterday I did some OCing, since I wanted to know, what the max power-draw of my system is.

So I had Prime95 run with and without AVX. Additionally for some time also Furmark to stress the GPU.

Since I have a AVX-Offset of 3, I did 4,7Ghz allcore with AVX and 5,0Ghz without AVX. Temps went up to a max of 86deg, but usually were aroud 80deg.

With 5Ghz I ran into some problems though since one instance in Prime95 (worker) stopped working. That was with the System already warm and after 2hrs of running Prime95 with AVX. But I dont think, this would a problem with DCS, since loads are not that high by far. Also dont think, this was due to not enough cooling.

My system powerdraw was with my videocard also at max powerlimit (111% => ~240W) was 430W. Normally during DCS its around 300W.

After the test, reset my CPU to default-values since right now, OCing does not help in DCS, since ist GPU-limited; at least according to my tests.
