DCS World Patch Notes Discussion Thread

I too can run 2.5.6 the same as 2.5.5 when it comes to normal free flight. Are you testing with AI in the area. I don't mean an AI target. I mean watching AI move about on the ground around you, taxi past you etc. Have you tested in a WWII mission involving bomber escort where there are numerous AI in the air. My frames will drop greatly just watching AI taxi by me on the runway. It will seesaw up and down 20 or more frames. In a WWII mission escorting planes my frames will drop from 100 down to below 20 or even single digits.

Same here. But this latest patch did have an improvement in VR. The same bomber escort mission that dropped my fps to single digits now stays at a stable 20fps, and it feels like its fighting to stay there. I see split second dips here and there. But they immediately go back to 20fps.

Which now makes me wonder. Because my 2.5.5 installation can only run that same mission at 14-16fps...

I normally use Red Flag missions( NTTR) for the Hornet, Tomcat and Viper to test.

In those missions, you have more than 12 aircraft taxing out in very close proximity.

I see a drop in fps in Tomcat only to like 43fps and frame time remains in upper 10s.

Everything still plays smoothly.

These are the heavy missions I test with in single player mode. I scarcely play in multiplayer mode.

No ww2 theater.

Any idea of a mission I could test with?

Out of curiosity, are you guys using wake turbolence? I found while flying the Hunters over the Yalu campaign that it caused -massive- framerate drops when multiple aircraft where flying close to each other.

I play with wake turbulance on. And haven't seen any issues in that campaign while formation flying. What I did see is a drop in frame rate when too many planes are in my immediate vicinity.

Indeed, enabling wake turbulence should raise a BIG warning if enabled. So far, this scales really badly with the number of units in the area. Lots of people already went into this trap and complained about FPS dropping to single digits until they were told to disable this feature. I like it but it is heavily WIP and not really usable at the moment.

Just ask the poor guys who create DLC campaign content and have to constantly answer questions why their missions have subpar performance if they want to make them interesting.

A warrior's mission is to foster the success of others.

@ wake turbulence

I did a quick and dirty test in the ME. 60-70 FA-18 Hornets in close formation and 2 hight level to each other:

- only AI lowest drop 31 fps

- 1 FA-18 set as client -> player control wake turbulence off -> flying behind the other 18's fps drops to low 30s

- 1 FA-18 set as client -> player control wake turbulence on -> flying behind the other 18's fps drops to 9-12 fps

Settings in Sig, latest OB and driver installed.

Edit: 2D not VR

Torrent download speed was much bettern than usually today  My download bandwidth was maxed out.

Same here... no words applejackshocked.png

A lot! Usually the speeds are so low you can put a stick on a pidgin and it'd be quicker. Or even sending it via Deutsche Post rdlaugh.png

But this time I had a hard time tracking that bar grow with my eyes since it went so fast instead of the usual quarter furlong per fortnight, t'was

! pinkiepieexcited.png

Wasn't able to test performance yet though. Didn't even expect that update and therefor didn't even see if there was one... dealwithit.png

Try "P-51 Bomber Escort to Caen". I drop right down to single digits.

I removed Wake Turbulence but it made no difference for me.

Hey everyone, I'm curious if anyone knows if we can add the Stennis back to mission hosted on a dedicated server?

It be really nice to add it on to the 504VFS Free Flight dedicated Beta server soon

Just wondering if anyone has a answer for this?

Eagles may soar but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

Just wondering if anyone has a answer for this?

As noted in known issues

MP: Ship speed calculated with errors and drifted, so aircraft can slide on the deck

We still have a bouncing / sliding issue on the deck which creating big problems for the carrier group. The team are working on it

thanks

I am attempting to update to the latest version, and the process keeps being halted by my antivirus software, which is detecting a threat in the download and deleting it.

I don't imagine that there's a virus in the package, but all the same, am I safe to pause my antivirus and complete the patch?

Yes - this has been going on for some time as AV providers have identified a range of false positives

It was mentioned somewhere else, that this false positives have been caused by a change in the copy protection.

When you read how copy protections work, and what big issues they can create, you'll understand that this false positive is not seldom in that regards.

If its possible to put in place a suggested release date (May) for the next Open Beta Update...would it be possible to put in place a suggested release date (even if its only to the nearest month) for the next Update to the Stable Version - as that is obviously information of interest to a far greater number of DCS players (given the overwhelming majority of DCS players are on the stable version)

Very unlikely, and if so, it will be small to address bugs. Kate said that the next major update will be in May.

Source?

We don't have a solid timeline on the next OB, saying that pretty much says we probably won't see one tomorrow. As we put more testing steps in place, you will see patch release slow down some for the sake of stability. Thanks.

Thanks NineLine, more internal testing before release is a good thing!
