Hey folks,

Am I the only one getting FPS hits? Particularly with the new Channel map? Seems OK FPS except when big cities are in view in VR.

Anyway I am off to chase a zillion other bugs :joystick:... but I would be curious to know if anyone has had any negative FPS takes on things.

Have you looked in the Channel Map forum? You are not alone. VR is unusable for me on the Channel Map. Pity, as it looks beautiful on my TrackIR/monitor set up.

What would be "well done" is to have updates which are not constantly breaking things that were previously working...

Pointless comment. These things happen in beta.

Not systematically, not with proper internal testing and not when you have some control over your code...

Well, I'm happy that ED were very responsive to the issue and produced a hot fix within 24 hours.

Yes that's a good thing. If only it could be true for other issues... Like VR performance that have been unacceptable for nearly 6 months..

Some things just take longer. Believe me, I am as keen as you to see improved VR performance, but ED are aware of the issue and have said they are working on it. What more do you expect?

Is it just me or does spotting feel better in the new build ?

They'd still be almost invisible if it wasn't for the contrails/knowing where to look/zoom in.

They have said a lot of things about VR (remember the 50% boost?) but things are getting worse more and more rapidly. Instead of saying things maybe it is time to take action. May I remind you that they said they were working on vulkan more than 2 years ago, where are we now? (Not that I am saying that it would solve everything)

As I said earlier, some things take a long time, and some things take less than 24 hours. Sadly, Vulkan is in the former category.

Patience is what is required. (Last I'm going to say on this.)

Patch improved damage model. Before I couldn't destroy A-50 on the ground with gbu's. Previously, before bugged patch, I dropped two gbu 16's and A-50 didn't get destroyed. Now 1 gbu 16 is enough though 2 gbu 12's are not. Maybe not realistic on that regard but surely better than before.

Here is one problem; no one pays for a VR module. Or a vulkan port. Or a more efficient graphics engine. These arent modules that can be sold by ED. Similar things apply to fixing old bugs and old modules. And thats not criticism of ED or me trying to call them money grabbers. They run a business, they have shareholders, they have to pay salaries. The problem is the business model depends on selling ever more (prelease, buggy) new modules that introduce ever more bugs, where as most users I suspect, arent really craving for new modules as much as they are wanting ED to fix whats already there. The things that help ED make money are largely the things that upset us, and so many of the things that we would like to see are the things that ED has to do as "charity".

ED has to find a way to make money from pleasing customers and doing what they want, regardless if they want new content, or if its improving or fixing existing content or modernizing underlying engines for graphics, and weather, and AI etc. Being under financial pressure to constantly bloat the game with new stuff, that will further add to the list of unfixed bugs, is getting counter productive. So yes, Im for (at least an optional) subscription based model rather than a pay for new content model.

Subscription model would not work. If you want to support ED. Buy some 50 modules and start distributing them to your friends. So you help ED, but do it every month.
