Hopefully we get a Jordanian skin for the F16!

Don't get your hopes up for that. Jordan is flying totally different F-16's than ED's Viper

You'll probably want to download a user made skin

Sometimes you just have to say an f-16 is an f-16. Same with Israeli f-16s, same with Omani ones for the Hormuz map

Ive seen similar problems too often. I once got hired as a project manager in a company making point of sale software. In that company customers literally had a direct phone line to developers (I kid you not) who where constantly asked to add features urgently. Features that the base layer often had no provisions for and that had to be shoe horned in under extreme time pressure. The software base layer was neglected and abused for 10 years because no customer ever asks to upgrade the database engine and API layer to something that is more robust and more manageable. Even an army of testers would not provide bug free stable releases in that scenario.

The only solution was to stop devs answering the phone, have sales reps stop promising customers new features that weren't already in there , and lock up a team of devs in a basement with no phone and rewrite the db and APIs.

I didnt manage to convince the company owners of that, they said it would hurt sales and be far too costly. They wanted to be able to bill almost every hour that their devs worked.

This literally is my sneak peek into the industry. Exactly what I saw and had to experience myself. The only difference there was I was there as a trainee and they didn't employ me after I finished - and they're still running today. That hit me right within the eco crisis, leaving me completely without any persective (add health issues to that, <5% vision doesn't really help you getting anywhere) actually since I rarely ever was writing code at all as I had to do the support while being a dev officially. I literally had to learn my job in my free time, it was freakin' hard, didn't have a life at all and I barely made it through the trials. And as far as I could gather from others at that time, that literally was the industry standard in Germany. Probably still is... but well, let's not get political here, we all know very well the world is an a***, no need to discuss that here rdlaugh.png

Excellent idea in principle, but that does mean we are stuck with the unreadable, sun-soaked DDIs on the Hornet for a month!

And almost nonexistent HUDs in VR and hazy everfog that lets you see 5nm at best... fluttershysad.png

Though I do appreciate the decision to take longer patch cycles and do more inhouse testing, but the point in time to start this literally couldn't be worse. This probably works better right after a Stable release.

Maybe I'll do the no HUD CASE Is after all that Victory205 always kept recommending - in the Hornet, without even having to switch that thing off rdlaugh.png

I really like the LCD MOD, you can also use it with the "dusty" cockpit MOD but the pit overwrites the LCDs (I think) and the CRT's are very reflective so may negate the benefit.

Fun fact IRL CRTs almost don't reflect at all while LCDs literally are makeup mirrors (ever tried to use a mobile outside? rdlaugh.png) unless you happen to come across a display that's not shiny and glary which almost became impossible through the last years, at least on the consumer market... rainbowdashwink.png

I think you hit the nail on the head with this post. I feel at times that ED is too generous. The base game is free and continually updated so it means the only revenue is new modules / maps etc.

The long term solution is to move to an X-Plane type pricing model where new versions are a pay for item. As a community we are expecting ED to develop dynamic campaigns, new clouds, lighting models and have no direct revenue for this. It doesn't make sense to me, especially for a niche product like this. It's not unreasonable to pay, say $40-$50, for DCS 3.0 to underwrite that development.

Agreed, the sim is getting bigger and bigger so we need ED to focus on core features before anything else. I wouldn't mind paying 50 bucks for DCS 3.0. We all know that every company needs money and maybe that's why they are focusing on new modules so much. My vote is to charge for DCS 3.0 but that's number 1 priority.

What???????? Seriously???

Yes. The last couple of patches broke a lot of stuff and caused a lot of angst in the community.

ED are shifting to a less frequent patch cycle so they can (hopefully) do a better job with their internal testing before releasing content to the wider community.

The specific link that Speed-of-Heat was looking for is this one from BigNewy: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4388369&postcount=1767

I'm sure we will see some other items in the notes later today, but the focus is on some crashes and third party issues.

I was about to say I'm not so sure a longer patch cycle will lead to better results. It would mean ED getting feedback on bugs once a month instead of every week. It would mean ED taking less advantage of the free resource of community error reporting (such as it is:unsure:).

I understand there is a lot of well defined cockpit color palette errors (like the Spitfire cockpit, the Su-33 and more), the carrier deck. A continuation of this:

Corrected lights in the cockpits of next aircraft: Yak-52, Su-25, Su-25T, MiG-29, A-10A, F-86F, L-39C, L-39ZA, A-10C, MiG-15bis, P-51D-25NA, P-51D-30NA, TF-51D, UH-1H, F-15C, F-5E

F-15C cockpit. Warning lights animation corrected

Added adaptive self-illuminating materials in the cockpit of A-10A, Su-25T, Su-25

Neither critical but annoying, was half counting on a fix this week. Seems like low hanging fruit (obvious and effortlessly repeatable).

agreed. if those patches will be too good, then it's ok. but if they will come as they are now, it will cause extreme impatience. think that, you get a patch after waiting a whole month then this patch is full of bugs and you gotta wait for another whole month
