GPU performance test in DCS2.5.6 for the forum

Recommended Posts

I have eVGA GTX 1080 Black Edition. INSTANT ACTION-Su-25T-Free Flight at MineraInye Voby, Preset=HIGH, MSAA=4x, 1920x1080, Vsync OFF:

GPU usage is 99-100% and FPS is 61.

I tried using RyzenMaster to do an all-core overclock to 3.9GHz, and saw no change in the numbers. Normally my 2700 sits at all-core clock of 3.35 MHz. I thought DCS was highly dependent on CPU speed so was surprised the overclock made no difference. I guess the 1080 is my bottleneck, no matter the clock setting of the 2700 CPU?

My result is a little lower than I expected/hoped, with my 1080's performance between the 5700 and 5700XT, lower than a 1070Ti, and the 1080Ti being around 35% faster then the 1080. Baffled how Sniper34's 1080 can perform so well; better than the two 1080Ti's listed.

Thanks for this thread!

What about your Nvidia driver setting?

Thanks for that suggestion, Cy-27. I checked nVidia Control Panel and found I had made some changes to some settings for DCS. I took a snapshot of the settings for future reference and restored to default settings.

My FPS improved to 62 FPS, still at 99-100% GPU usage.

Amazing. Maybe you should try another version of the Nvidia driver.

That's a fair suggestion. I went to nVidia's download section and did a driver search for my card - found I had been using driver 4141 version dated 11/20/2019. I updated to the latest WHQL version, 4587- dated 4/3/2020. FPS still at 61-62, but GPU usage is now at solid 100%, no longer fluctuating between 99-100%.

I have also tried MSI Afterburner and increased both Core and Mem clocks by +200, but it makes no difference in my FPS.

I use the latest 2.5.6 ob version.

Today I test a borrowed RTX2060 6GB which default boosts at 1860Mhz.

F-18 River run: 51fps GPU usage 98%

Su-25 free flight: 62fps GPU usage 97%

My RX5700 result:

F-18 River run: 50fps GPU usage 98%

Su-25 free flight: 61~62fps GPU usage 98%

The RTX2060 test result is almost the same as a AMD RX5700 at defalt 1750Mhz.

GTX1060 w/MaxQ 6GB VRAM (GPU usage 99-100%)

Dell Inspiron 7577 Laptop (i7-7700HQ @ 2.8GHz w/16GB RAM)

DCS v2.5.6

Instant Action - F/A-18C 'River Run' - Briefing

Running Fraps (cool!) I set it to launch when Windows starts and run minimized in the System Tray.

Per OP's test settings (High Preset + MSAA 4X - (no vSync was default) - 31fps (OUCH!!)

Other settings: Medium Preset + MSAA 4X - (no vSync) - 78fps

I tweaked some settings and settled on 75fps

[Altered Setting (Medium Preset Default Setting)]

1. Textures = High (Medium)

2. Terrain Textures = Medium (Low)

3. Visible Range = High (Medium)

4. Shadows = Medium (Flat)

5. MSAA = 2X (Off)

6. Global Cockpit Illumination = On (Off)

7. Preload Radius = 100000 (30000)

8. Rain Droplets = On (Off)

All other Medium Preset settings unchanged.

I think a track file is needed then you can replay on everyone's machine. I have a Core I3-8350K and Rx Vega 64 overclocked to 1.6GHz, getting around 65fps on river run.

The replay is not correct for almost all the time...

What should there be in such a file / table?

That has to be done.

This is why I suggested this

Rack Rig: Rosewill RSV-L4000 | Koolance ERM-3K3UC | Xeon E5-1680 v2 @ 4.9ghz w/EK Monoblock | Asus Rampage IV Black Edition | 64GB 2133mhz | SLI TitanXP w/ EK Waterblocks | 2x Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB | Seasonic 1000w Titanium | Windows 10 Pro 64bit | TM Warthog HOTAS w/40cm Extension | MFG Crosswind Rudders | Obutto R3volution | HP Reverb

This is why I suggested this

But unfortunately that is only your wish, which I share with you. But nothing more.

But you could also create a thread in the forum, to which a file is attached in the first post, for example a mission (river run for example).

Plus a how to,

Example:

Map of the Caucasus

Low-flying mission.

Three flight models (F18, Su25T and F15 for example)

Approx. Flight altitude 100 feet, speed 350 knots

Settings preselection high

The benchmark (with Fraps or similar) is started at Waypoint 1 and then goes for 60s

In addition, a short video of how the flight should be (tracking the terrain for example)

Then the benchmarking user must provide the values for

Resolution once 720p for CPU test, then 1080p and 2160p, or VR with resolution.

Then the fps values for average, min fps and max.

That would help a lot. So that you could set good values.

Only I currently lack the options for mission creation. I am fit for benchmarks and tests, but the mission editor is still hard new territory for me;). Then record the whole thing as an instruction video ...

Maybe someone volunteers?

Then you could talk about mission design. Of course, there should be many AI units on the way, so that the CPUs are also required. It might also make sense to create two different missions for this. One with high CPU load and another for high GPU load.

Best regards

This is very interesting for me as I was always wondering if a CPU upgrade would be benefitional for me. We have the same GPU but you have a newer CPU and DDR-4.

I actually have:

River Run: 82 FPS@98%

SU-25T: 83 FPS@98%

If I put 1 and 1 together this should end up in around 40% more FPS. Maybe even more if I go for an up to date CPU. Interesting. My government at home needs to be convinced first ;)

Thanks, Xoxen

At what clockspeed is your i7 running? Maybe new faster RAM will do the trick?

I do not understand this.

I thought, if both your alike GPUs are maxed, CPU/RAM dont matter. Putting a faster CPU into a system, where the GPU is already maxed will not give higher fps.

Or is my understanding wrong?
