Head out of the cockpit with TrackIR

Hi!

With TrackIR you can get your head out of the cockpit. It looks bad and it also offers some advantage as you can check angles that you shouldn't be able to.

Just an update: it seems it only happens in multiplayer as I was practicing landings using the included mission and it was perfect there.

Maybe not only in MP.

I just tried some flight with it on my server with a friend.

First 2 plane I used : No problem

But for the 3 : Get the bug.

I took all the time the same slot (dark and cold on the ground with open cockpit at spawn).

*confirm I got both in MP and SP

Hi! Any update on this, it really looks bad when it happens which is quite often. Also it gives you advantage as you can see angles that otherwise you wouldn’t be able to.

Bump this thread.

It appears this bug is back.

With the canopy closed, using TrackIR, you can stick your head through the canopy glass.

Screenshot attached.

View limits adjustment I guess?

Cheers,

Wiggy

Another report on the "head-out-of-cockpit with TrackIR" bug. This is difficult to reproduce, but I think I've found a reliable way to get it to fail.

Versions:

  • Date of test: 31 July 2020
  • DCS: Open Beta v 2.5.6.52437
  • Module: FW 190 A-8 EA
  • Map: Normandy

Preparation:

  • New mission, Normandy map, 2x FW 190 A8, cold start
  • Run the mission on my own server

My procedure:

  1. Start the mission and spawn into one aircraft.
  2. With the canopy still open (default), you can move your head outside (correct).
  3. Close the canopy
  4. With the canopy now shut, you can no longer move your head outside (correct).
  5. Switch to a new aircraft.
  6. With the canopy of the new aircraft still open (default), you can move your head outside (correct).
  7. Close the canopy
  8. With the canopy now shut, you can no longer move your head outside. (Correct.) You can switch to a different new aircraft again if you wish and it will keep working in a similar fashion.
  9. Now, this time before switching... re-open the canopy. <-- This is the important point.
  10. With the canopy of the aircraft now open again, you can move your head outside (correct). But...
  11. Switch to a new aircraft.
  12. With the canopy of the new aircraft still open (default), you can move your head outside (correct).
  13. Close the canopy
  14. You can now still move your head outside the canopy. This is INCORRECT.

_______________________________________________________________

The important thing is that the canopy clipping will work correctly no

matter how many times you re-spawn. Until you re-open the canopy.

Thereafter, a closed canopy will never restrict the TrackIR view.

Notes:

  • I understand that this problem exists on other WW2 aircraft, but I have not personally tested any of them.
  • I have tested this pretty hard and it seems repeatable. I do not know if this would be the case for those other aircraft.
  • I believe it is independent of the map. I've seen the same thing on at least one other map (Caucasus).
  • I have attached the mission file that I used for the test.
  • I have attached a track file which shows the problem.

In my perception, this "bug" is a feature. It allows me to check my six despite the glare on the canopy glass. I hope it stays that way, or they fix the glare.

I am experiencing "head out of the cockpit" since the time I started to use TrackIR Z-axis for zoom. But not everytime. Most frequently while flying on online servers.

It really happens in some planes so I don't know if this is by design or not. I know that limiting the view for VR is weird but then other sims do it right and no one complains.
