HP Reverb G2 Announced - next Gen

Recommended Posts

What's odd is that the G2 was supposed to have upgraded lenses from the pre-production models all along; they've been saying it for months.

I have a feeling that this will quickly be conflated with the rumors/leaks around a G2 model with eye tracking (the so-called "Omnicept edition"), but I doubt one has anything to do with the other.

+ the "Omnicept edition has not even been confirmed and it has a single source from an italian online website , and it is certainly aimed for professional use rather than gaming:smilewink:

Could be just a fake.

So anyone here getting a 3090? I'm considering it but I don't know if it will fit in my case/motherboard.

The 3080 is also nice but less vram than my current 1080ti.

Has there been any comparison between the Reverb G1 and Reverb G2 regarding fps drop?

Is it the same or worse?

HP G2 Reverb, Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate as standard. OpenXR user, Open XR tool kit disabled. Open XR was a massive upgrade for me.

DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), 0 X MSAA, 0 X SSAA. My real IPD is 64.5mm. Prescription VROptition lenses installed. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC at the mo. MT user  (2 - 5 fps gain). DCS run at 60Hz.

Vaicom user. Thrustmaster warthog user. MFG pedals with damper upgrade.... and what an upgrade! Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height with brail enhancements to ensure 100% button activation in VR.. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound.... you know when you are dropping into VRS with this bad boy.

Yeah... not 100% sure yet, but I think I will go for an EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Hydro Copper. Not sure about the EVGA water block however, so may go for Founders Edition and fit an EKWB instead.

The EVGA is what I want but who knows when I'll be able to get one. Are they releasing them the same day as Nvidia is? Although they do look uglier compared to the regular versions.

I was just reading the EVGA forums. Details - so far - are scant. They have not announced release dates, specifications or prices on anything. Just a few photos and Jacob (their PR guy) has given some vague answers to explain the product stack a little bit. Nothing too specific or too useful. Sorry.

I am currently planning on an EVGA 3090 FTW3 as soon as they become available. I have a big case with lots of room.

May be tough to snag one though but I will certainly be trying.

My Entho evolve atx mid size should fit a 3090 I just worry the thickness/width will hit the ram sticks. I can fit a 16.3 inch GPU in there now as I don't need the extra hard drive brackets.

I'll try to get one on Sept 24 too but who knows. Assuming evga also puts them out for sale the same day as Nvidia store. I'll take either one I suppose.

Whether it's a worthy upgrade I can keep for 3 years like my 1080ti, only time will tell. It may make more sense to get a 3080 now then a 3080ti when that is released 6 months from now or a year from now. The gap between 3080 and 3090 is so large. They have to put something else in there. I hate how they do this.

For anyone who has this bad-boy on order, I'd be real interested to hear your feedback once you've got them delivered, up, and running.

I am pretty sure there are several of us participating in this thread that are greatly looking forward to being able to do so.

Nothing there that we didn't already know. UK distributor emailed its pre-order customers a week or so ago on this October date from HP.

One thing that does slightly concern me is all the talk about the sweet spot being as good if not a bit better than the Index. I have to say, when I had both the Index and the Reverb, I could only detect a small improvement with the Index in that respect.

My main hope for the G2 is that it will have a significantly better sweet spot than G1.

Yeah as long as it is equal or better than the Rift S I will be quite happy.

I have been using my index with the lenses all the way out in preparation for the G2 so I dont get such a shock with the smaller fov :)

One thing I do notice is how much smaller the the clear area is when the lenses are out and how much better the image is from edge to edge with the lenses in on the index.

Even though the g2 has a smaller fov, I certainly hope the lenses are reasonably close to be looking through the good part of the lens for a greater part of thta fov.

There was a heat problem with the pre production headsets and at the time I said to a friend of mine something has to go & I bet a bottom dollar they will change the lenses and low and behold they have from a great lenses to even better lenses mm :D

Interesting. How do you know there was a heat problem? And why would the heat problem mean changing the lenses, or are you saying changing lenses was a convenient excuse for a more serious problem?
