I thought the delays affecting initial pre-orders were perfectly understandable, if unfortunate. The people shafted were those who pre-ordered later and still had no idea when they'd receive their headsets even though HP were selling them direct.

Obviously not passing up the compensation, but didn't feel it was at all necessary in my case.

I thought the same. I also thought SystemActive couldn't have been more communicative but clearly got loads of calls and emails demanding to know when the G2 would ship, I ended up feeling quite sorry for them!

Pretty sure this is an HP thing, not SystemActive.

Same here!  My G2 (with controllers) ended up costing £475 from SystemActive.

Yep, same here, great deal considering it now retails at £639 from the same site.

I do also agree that SystemActive were excellent and really wasn't expecting any sort of refund. That said, it's HP offering the refund, not SystemActive. I wonder if other distributers are being offered the same deal from HP, or if SystemActive badgered them into for their customers.

Yes it is and all resellers are doing on behalf of HP. My comments on SystemActive stand though as they took all the flak on HP's behalf too!

I have been reacquainting myself with the Hornet somewhat today.

Been doing cold start and take offs from the Supercarrier, it is gorgeous in the Reverb G2 at 100% resolution.

At that resolution do not need MSAA and able to maintain the min of 45 fps with motion smoothing on.

I was pleased with that as supercarrier is pretty demanding on hardware especially at that resolution - 3172x3100 per eye.

Even managed a successful trap on landing for the first time on carrier in several weeks. Yeah baby!

I've installed the A-10C II to trial it in the free to play period.

With my underpowered rig (i7-6700K @ 4.4GHz, 2080 Super, G2) I've noticed that the experience with motion projection is immediately more stable that it is in the Viper. With the Viper I was getting ocasional dropouts below 45FPS but with the Hawg it seems perfectly stable in the same (admittedly quite low activity) conditions.

However, what I am noticing is that I'm getting tracking issues (slight positional jumps) when I go head down to the left and right consoles. I've tried different lighting conditions but can't seem to prevent them and I don't get that problem in the Viper.

Anyone having similar experiences ?

I have been having a blast doing cold start and takeoffs from the Super Carrier in the Hornet the last couple of days, truly gorgeous in the Reverb G2.

Ya know one would think if I could learn to do cold starts, taxi and take offs on Super Carrier , followed by a bit of navigation and then return to carrier and land using TACAN and ILCS, that I ought to be able to continue on and learn how to effectively use weapons and fly combat missions in a campaign.

But nope here I am stuck doing what I am doing, and only enjoying about half of what the Hornet has to offer - if that much... maybe someday.

The isolation I totally understand as a preference, but volume? I have to have the device volume at 50% - DCS components at various levels - to stop my ears being blown away! Are you sure you have the WMR volume up? Check by pressing Windows button on controller.
Even at 50%, I don’t really hear external sounds, and the freedom of not having more plastic stuck to my head/ears is, for me, one of the bonuses of the G2 and the Index when I had one.
But, as always, each to their own.

I think it depends on the headphones and amplification.

As mentioned earlier I also used to select the "hear in helmet" option which gave a far more muted sound effect to the machine around you.

I disabled this with the new G2 as I found the sound of the aircraft far too low but have since found a new sound to enjoy with these DCS modules.

The in helmet sound is great but without it I am amazed how much detail goes into the sound of these machines and how different they sound in comparison to each other.

The detail of sound in these simulated aircraft and how the electronic whining falls in and out of phase with the pulse and beat of the engine is just superb.

But yes, less volume more detail.... you are right

HP G2 Reverb, Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate as standard. OpenXR user, Open XR tool kit disabled. Open XR was a massive upgrade for me.

DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), 0 X MSAA, 0 X SSAA. My real IPD is 64.5mm. Prescription VROptition lenses installed. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC at the mo. MT user  (2 - 5 fps gain). DCS run at 60Hz.

Vaicom user. Thrustmaster warthog user. MFG pedals with damper upgrade.... and what an upgrade! Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height with brail enhancements to ensure 100% button activation in VR.. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound.... you know when you are dropping into VRS with this bad boy.

I tried warning people about the 3080 in DCS due to the potential for DRAM cap being hit on some scenarios. I think 6800XT+ or 3080 Ti + will be safer bets and more future / scenario proof for DCS.

So is the 3070 out of the question with a G2? I currently have 1070 with the original Oculus Rift and was going to upgrade to the 3070 and G2. The 3090 or 3080 will not fit inside my Aurora R7. I would believe the 3070/G2 will be a big upgrade however should I consider a different headset with the 3070?

you may have to run the G2 at 50% of its recommended resolution, YMMV  8GB is still a lot of memory i suspect it will vary on the less optimised maps , Syria and the channel ... being the worst "hit"

In which case why have a G2...? You'd be better off with an Index or Rift S or something less demanding.

Because not everyone can upgrade everything all at the same time ... and 50% on the G2 is broadly equivalent to the G1 in terms of Clarity

it's native resolution ... 2160 x 2160 or 100% in steam (which is close to its native value)

i dont understand the question on FOV, but it doesnt really change when you adjust the steam SS setting, clarity is of course not as good as running at 100% ... bear in mind at 100% on a G1 you would likely also have to compromise a lot of settings to medium etc...

sorry thats not my post, its on my thread but, i dont have that particular faceplate mod.

I have tried the FrankenFov mod , and its not very comfortable for me though the FOV is wider , the faceplate version might make it a little more comfortable but it will likely reduce the FOV increase. But one of the big pluses of the G2 over the G1 is comfort, I can wear the thing for hours and not notice I am wearing it, so going back to less than that was worse than the FOV increment was a benefit (a few degrees maybe).

The FOV on  the G2 is a little wider than the G1 ... but a lot depends on your face shape an IPD ... mines 68.5... etc...
