B-17G Aluminium skin

I've started working on the B-17G skin in the hope one day it will have people actually flying in it.

 

What I'm hoping to achieve is a (newer) more natural aluminium finish than the stock standard game finish.

 

I know people will argue that is what they looked like. But at the moment they really do look like they have come out of the factory with a coat of dull, worn out gull grey.

 

The problem I'm having is the skin in Model Viewer 2 is not like that in game.

 

I vaguely remember there being something mentioned that it may be a problem with the lack of a roughmet file but I can't confirm this.

 

I'm using diffuse, spec & norm file & have them all selected correctly in the description.lua

 

I've played around with different RGB on both the spec & norm file and while it sometimes has disasterous effects I just can't quite get it to give a more shiny aluminium appearance.

 

It almost appears that there is another file somewhere overiding the spec & normal file when in game.

 

Any ideas will be appreciated. :confused:

Are you working with Roughness Metalic files or Specular files? The B-17G, correct me when I'm wrong, only supports specular files ATM

Gday sub, I think that’s the problem.

 

It appears model viewer looks at both but the game only looks at spec.

Hence the difference in the same files as shown in pics in post one.

 

Hopefully they can change that (and put people in there while they’re at it)

I feel your pain Helles Belle,

 

That is as good as it gets at the moment. What looks good in modelviewer2 doesn't carry over to the sim. It will happen eventually though.

It’d be great to see some of the AI WWII given some lovin’.

 

I’d love to do more with the B-17, I have to make the psd files smaller and work on a few other things with it. But at the moment the size is killing me time wise.

Try to use ROUGHMET (13), instead of SPECULAR (2) for your texture maps in the description.lua file.

I think this does not work because the model itself is not supporting RoughMet, isn't it?
