WHAT IS MERGE FOR THE CURE

DCS World Events and Fighter Pilot Podcast, in conjunction with our awesome sponsors, DSD Designs, Heatblur, Eagle Dynamics, Thrustmaster, Polychop, Wild Weasel Apparel, and Foxx Mount are proud to announce MERGE FOR THE CURE. MERGE FOR THE CURE is an event dedicated to the merge and BFM with a special dedication to taking it to COVID19. COVID19 has caused major strife around the world and I believe that we, the DCS World community, can help make a difference. If you would like to help make a difference, go donate to the charity of your choice and take to the skies to duke it out in the Merge for the Cure.

SPECIAL GUEST COMMENTATOR - FIGHTER PILOT PODCASTS VINCENT AIELLO

I will be joined at various times during Merge for the Cure by by the man behind Fighter Pilot Podcast, Vincent Aiello, callsign "Jell-O" and possibly other FPP hosts and guests. Vincent retired from the Navy in 2017 after serving the United States flying the F/A-18 Hornet and Super Hornet, F-16 Fighting Falcon, and the A-4 Skyhawk and will help in providing real world analysis to our virtual flying.

SIGNUP AND DONATION INFO

This event is open to anyone; lonewolves, noobs and pros. If you want to get in on the action, and simultaneously support kicking COVID19's ass, sign on up! In order to signup for this event you MUST make a one time donation to Doctors Without Borders or other similar charity, CDC, United Nations, etc, with a minimum of 10 USD along with making a new post following the template at the bottom of the OP (See my example at the bottom of this post). Donating more is of course allowed and strongly encouraged. A screenshot of your donation will be required to accompany your signup post. The reason to not have a dedicated charity is because DCS is a truly international simulator and a single charity may not benefit everyone. I want participants to donate directly to the charity or organization that they believe can make a difference. Donating directly also eliminates the need for a middile man and the complications that that can cause. So in short, pick a charity associated to COVID19 relief, research, etc and signup! More registration information can be found at the bottom of this post.

SCHEDULE

The schedule for matches, including times, will be finalized once signups have closed and can be found at Splash One Gaming website. Merge for the Cure is set to start May 9th, 2020 at 1700z and will be run for 2-3 consecutive weekends depending on player numbers. Therefore, please expect if you keep winning to fly a couple weekends in a row and as we get closer to finals time to also fly more matches per day of competition. To check what Zulu time is for you, see here.

RULES 1V1*

- 1v1 matches consist of 1 pilot per team attempting to eliminate their opponent in a best of 3 setup or best of 5 for quarters on.

- Starts will be air start.

- Starting distance will be 50km from each other head-on at between 10000ft and 20000ft at any speed.

- Combatants must fly towards each other before merge. Maximum nose deviation from the opponent must be kept within 70 degrees until the first pass/merge. Increasing or decreasing speed is allowed. Combatants must stay above 10k feet and below 20k feet before the merge.

- Fuel dumping is allowed.

- Weapons hold until after the first pass. Definition of merge: when EITHER fighter passes the other fighter's 3/9 line and the fighters are within 1 nm from each other (within weapons range).

- Extending away from the fight for the purpose of resetting to a new merge, or to attempt to reacquire a lost tally, is allowed. However, extending purely to drag out the fight and play fuel games is highly discouraged and such passive tactics may up in disqualification, this will ultimately be decided by the referee and/or review from the Tacview file.

- If there is significant damage to your jet, fully passive and defensive tactics are OK.

- After eliminating your opponent, the combatant must land at the designated airfield inside the bubble.

- There is a bubble that will simulate an arena. This bubble is 66km across.

- If you come within 16km of bubble edge you will receive a warning that you are leaving the bubble.

- If you exit the bubble completely you will self-destruct.

- Any aircraft is allowed to compete in Merge for the Cure.

- All aircraft will start with full internal gun and no other weapons.

- Fuel for each aircraft has been calculated based on time maintaining max AoA sustained turns at low altitude. These fuel loads will allow all aircraft to stay gate for similar time frames.

- In order to complete the round you must land at the airfield in the center of the bubble. This ensures that a clean victory is had.

Would be nice to have a 25vs25 event like this in future aswell :)

DCS Wishlist: 2K11 Krug SA-4 Ganef SAM, VR-TrackIR icons next to player names in score-chart

PvP: 100+ manual player-kills with Stingers on a well known dynamic campaign server - 100+ VTOL FARP landings & 125+ hours AV-8B, F-14 crew, royal dutch airforce F-16C - PvP campaigns since 2013

DCS server-admins: please adhere to a common sense gaming industry policy as most server admins throughout the industry do. (After all there's enough hostility on the internet already which really doesn't help anyone. Thanks.)

Dell Visor VR headset, Ryzen 5 5600 (6C/12T), RTX 2060 - basic DCS-community rule-of-thumb: Don't believe bad things that a PvP pilot claims about another PvP pilot without having analyzed the existing evidence
