Helpers in VR too big

Recommended Posts

This has been reported a few times before, but doesn't seem to have been given much attention.

Training missions highlight boxes way too big

Tutorials highlights problem....

Tutorial helper markers scaling in VR

The helpers that can highlight buttons and switches across all modules work well in both Desktop and VR modes, however, in VR, the helpers are much brighter and a lot larger than when rendered on a traditional monitor.

Here is a screenshot of the Harrier highlighting the Fuel Proportioner and Left and Right pump switches on a desktop session

Here is exactly the same scene rendered in VR.

Helper-in-VR.png

you can clearly see the difference between the two, but it's exacerbated when inside your HMD due to the distortion of the image captured here on the desktop reprojection.

I've never been worried about it enough until recently when I started working on some tutorial missions at night where the size and brightness of the Helpers in VR were a major distraction, especially when there are several in close proximity that virtually obliterated the cockpit instrument textures behind them.

The issue is present in any module, in both Stable and Open Beta branches and has been present for a long time.

No mods, clean build of both versions. This image was captured in Open Beta 2.5.6.47224.

Also, mission messages (top-right) are too big in VR.

I would love a font/scale option for them.

It is a major hassle when learning a new module and this helper boxes are in very close proximity in vr.

Would be great if size can be made smaller like I see them shrinking when going off.

+1 - Yes the mission message are SOOOO big and distracting - all the graphical UI elements are to be honest (chat too).

Glying on a TTI server just makes me nuts with how large the AWACS reports are - it takes up the entire right side of the view.

Would love to see a UI scale slider in the settings

Also has been an attempt to bring this issue under ED's attention in this recent thread here.

I guess if we +1 (bump) it enough, ED will notice eventually :P

+1 .... bloody gutted. Just spent days creating an elaborate training flight in the Yak-52 using custom kneeboards, voiceovers and training helpers and and have only been testing it in desktop mode but came to fly it in VR and the cockpit highlights are HUGE!!!

HP G2 Reverb, Windows 10 VR settings: IPD is 64.5mm, High image quality, G2 reset to 60Hz refresh rate as standard. OpenXR user, Open XR tool kit disabled. Open XR was a massive upgrade for me.

DCS: Pixel Density 1.0, Forced IPD at 55 (perceived world size), 0 X MSAA, 0 X SSAA. My real IPD is 64.5mm. Prescription VROptition lenses installed. VR Driver system: I9-9900KS 5Ghz CPU. XI Hero motherboard and RTX 3090 graphics card, 64 gigs Ram, No OC at the mo. MT user  (2 - 5 fps gain). DCS run at 60Hz.

Vaicom user. Thrustmaster warthog user. MFG pedals with damper upgrade.... and what an upgrade! Total controls Apache MPDs set to virtual Reality height with brail enhancements to ensure 100% button activation in VR.. Simshaker Jet Pro vibration seat.. Uses data from DCS not sound.... you know when you are dropping into VRS with this bad boy.
