FAQ #1 - GENERAL

FAQ #1 - GENERAL

Q: Why VAICOM?

A: VAICOM PRO is a specialist DCS plugin for AI radio communications.

Using deep lua integration with DCS, the app unlocks levels of realism and immersion that cannot be reached with just VoiceAttack.

Advanced speech processing is used for fast and true-to-life radio interaction with all air- and ground-based AI units in the mission.

VAICOM PRO can be used with compatible languages such as English (US/UK), French, German, and Spanish.

Q: Can I check this out for free?

A: Yes. The base plugin is fully functional and free to download from the website.

Complete functionality is unlocked by activating your PRO license, obtainable from the website.

Q: Do I need the licenced version of VoiceAttack?

A: Yes.

Q: Do I need to be experienced with VoiceAttack?

A: A basic understanding of VA functions is required first before you start working with the plugin.

Q: I made my own VoiceAttack profile, can I use it together with VAICOM?

A: Yes. VAICOM has just a single VA profile and users can simply daisy-chain their own existing profiles to it.

Using this method, these can be used at the same time.

Q: That User Manual looks intimidating. Do I really need to read it?

A: Yes. This is an advanced tool. To get the most of its potential, you will need to get acquainted with some background.

Also, you avoid most common pitfalls of beginning users by reading the install instructions and the User Manual carefully before you start using the plugin.

Q: Can I also use it with Multiplayer?

A: Yes. MP is supported, usage is the same as in SP mode.

As a recent addition, the plugin has VoIP integrations with VoiceChat and SRS Simple Radio Standalone to interweave human and AI communications.

Q: Where is my speech training data stored?

A: This is stored as a 'recognition profile' deep in Windows by the speech recognition engine.

Unless you do a complete re-install of MS Windows your training data is not lost, even if you would uninstall VoiceAttack and/or VAICOM.

Q: Do a need to use a PTT / TX6 key for cockpit control commands in my daisy chained profile?

A: If you enable Release Hot on the PTT page you can use non-VAICOM commands with hotmic i.e. without PTT.

Q: I would like to get this for my squad mates, can we get a group discount?

A: Good plan! Squadron discounts are possible: contact info@vaicompro.com

FAQ #4 INSTALL AND TROUBLESHOOTING

FAQ #4 INSTALL AND TROUBLESHOOTING

This FAQ section will be updated regularly.

Notes on install troubleshooting

Before troubleshooting, always close all apps and run a DCS Repair first.

Uninstalling and re-installing VA/VAICOM is generally counterproductive, a waste of time at best.

Be methodical and follow the steps as described in the user manual carefully.

Compatible third party apps

VAICOM PRO can be run alongside the following programs in export.lua:

  • SRS Simple Radio
  • TacView
  • SSA SimShaker for Aviators
  • HELIOS

Make sure to use latest versions of these apps only, using legacy versions can cause problems. Do not run incompatible apps while troubleshooting.

It is recommended to completely remove the export.lua file from Saved Games to ensure no faulty entries are causing issues (entries will be automatically restored by the apps).

Conflicting third party apps

The following apps have been known to cause issues, treat with suspicion:

  • Stunnel Proxifier
  • Asus Sonic Studio
  • Banana Voicemeeter
  • ATI Afterburner

PLEASE HELP No aircraft registered in PTT

Have installed Voice Attack and VaicomPro. No aircraft are listed in the Vaicom Pro PTT tab. It shows: "- - - - " and on the PTT green screen there is a "blinking BCN"

Have deleted the Export lua file in DCS> Scripts in saved games. Have not used the custom DCS path in Config tab as I am not sure which folder to select. My game is in DCA (A)driver. Should I just select this one or any more subfolders?

Think that even this will not be enough to solve the issue. Have also disabled NS 340 module in DCS and made Repair. Sorry if this is not the right spot for posting

@mibo The best thing to do normally is to check the existing threads to see if the problem is already discussed (I know we are all still learning the new forum software so not as easy as it used to be) and, if not, to start a new thread with your specific problem. In terms of your issue the custom DCS path just needs to point at the main folder where you have DCS installed - also check the Fix Reg option to ensure that the Windows registry is correct. Also, make sure that the Standalone / Steam and Stable / Openbeta sliders are correctly set. If this doesn't fix the problem please could you turn on Vaicom's debug option, restart Voiceattack and then post the Vaicom log here for us to help you further

Edit: Just checking you are running VA / Vaicom as an administrator

Hi Hornblower,

thanks for your reply. I cancelled everything and installed all new. Now PTT recognizes aircrafts but when I try to speak my commands for example in F5 cold start it does not recognize my commands. Maybe once of 20... the spoken command is listed correctly but a yellow mark says unrecognized command...

Have not clicked on the FINISH button on Editor as I suppose this has to be made only if adding new commands. Opening Pencil dot I can see all 526 registered commands a from AAA to Yunga then a few more as Link TunemMap marker,Radio Tune, Tacan tune finally *Chatter* and Transmit TX1and others where only TX 4 is Auto transmit press and release.

Can you or someone please help. I would very much appreciate it.

If your commands are not being recognised have you done voice training (page 39 of the manual)? This can take some time but will make a huge difference

If the Finish button is yellow then it is always a good idea to press it and follow the steps that are given in the message that appears.

Yes I did voice training in Windows and at least 3 times in Vaicom pro. The only words not recognized are the airport names I can't pronounce correctly. Also French names I tend to pronounce as french as I speak and write 5 languages, are not recognized unless I pronounce them with an English way of speaking. This is difficult for me as I am not English or American. In speech dictionary it says this word is already registered..

But this is not the problem easy commands are not functioning.

Having an issue where I'll attempt to call a tanker for rejoin, I'll get the command through as [Tanker], [Intent To Refuel] in the log, but it'll never be the correct tanker, Ill call texaco and it'll latch onto Arco, or Shell, whatever it seems to feel like.

Just did a fresh reinstall of the plugin and i'm still having the issue.

Edit: It seems to latch onto whatever the closest tanker is to my spawn location

I have everything working but, I have one doubt, with the Tomcat:

In my dedicated server with Easy comms OFF, using SRS and Vaicom, I can only transmit voice over SRS when I map the DCS controls "Mic Button UHF1 and UHF2 (SRS only -No menu)" over the Vaicom TX1 and TX2 (Same TX buttons mapped for SRS), that way everything works nicely, SRS and Vaicom. But the manual says it is not recommended to map DCS buttons overlapping the Viacom controls, I am so confused...

I already enabled "Radio switch works as PTT" and the Vaicom multiplayer, SRS integration and SRS PTT mapping...

Why do I need to map also the DCS Mic Buttons for everything to work together?

thanks

PD: SOLVED, SRS "Always allow SRS HOTKEYS" was OFF by default after the installation,  The VAICOM manual should include that info. All working good now!

Hello Hollywood, I have a problem with the installation of Vaicom Pro, I did all the procedure as the instructions in the manual and I also followed your video tutorial but after launching Voice Attack the subfolders are not created, I went to the Voice options Attack to verify that the plugin support was enabled, everything was ok but the subfolders have not been created yet and Voice Attack does not see Vaicom Pro.

If you have the newer 64 bit version of VoiceAttack then you must not use the VAICOM installer, because it installs the VAICOM files in the old location of VoiceAttack and so VoiceAttack doesn't see the files. Instead download the ZIP file version of VAICOM and unzip it to the plugins folder of your VoiceAttack installation. Then restart VoiceAttack and the subfolders should be created.

What does "fix reg" do exactly?  I know that it "fixes the registry", but what does it consider broken and how does it fix it?  I never fly the production version, only the openbeta.  I'm trying to determine why some of Reflected's campaign missions don't have an in-game radio menu, neither via the keyboard command nor options.  The stock missions do. Thanks.
