leafer Posted January 15, 2008 Author Posted January 15, 2008 Good Lord. These aircraft looked graceful from distances but ghetto miserable at close range. Yikes. I still love the Harrier though. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
mvsgas Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Good Lord. These aircraft looked graceful from distances but ghetto miserable at close range. Yikes. I still love the Harrier though. Well some aircraft, the dirtier they are the better they fly. Besides some of the chemicals on the aircraft (oil, hydraulic fluid, fuel, grease, etc) are very hard on the paint job and paint is expensive. Some aircraft only get repainted every two years and get wash any ware from every 30 day to every 6 months. The washes are more for corrosion control that anything. Us mechanics (at least the ones I know) try to maintain our aircraft clean but, some aircraft fly two to four time a day. Try putting that same mileage on your car. You would probably get 100,000 miles in one week. F-16 is my favorite. By the way awesome find man. I got to bookmark that one. To whom it may concern, I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that. Thank you for you patience. Many people don't want the truth, they want constant reassurance that whatever misconception/fallacies they believe in are true..
leafer Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 Well some aircraft, the dirtier they are the better they fly. Shouldn't it be the cleaner the the aircraft the better they fly? I thought dirt and grime disrupt airflow and whatnot. Which aircraft do you work on? I need you to steal a set of HOTAS for me. :D ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
mvsgas Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 I work F-16, and I was mostly joking. They are some aircraft that might be flying no problems, no parts braking and all systems operating. Then you clean it for what ever reason ( schedule cleaning, you had extra time to clean or you boss told you that you where making time to clean it ) and after cleaning the aircraft, they would not fly good for days or even weeks after that. Aircraft are temperamental and some time feel like they have their own personalty. Or maybe after spending 8 to 12 hours a day working on this piece of equipment you start feeling that way. Sorry I don't think I can manage to steal one of those but guess you can look on e-bay http://cgi.ebay.com/F-16-EXT-LIGHTING-box-aircraft-instrument-f16-avionics_W0QQitemZ300190479081QQihZ020QQcategoryZ36074QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Not a side stick but it is a start.
