Best Campaign for F/A-18?

Recommended Posts

The DCE Campaigns are very immersive if you don't mind a little setup and are open to studying the briefings. They simulate conventional operations really well, imho.

I'm really enjoying Integral Resolve right now. It's a semi-dynamic campaign for PG simulating the war on ISIS. Lots of CAS and interacting with agencies like ATC and CAOC.

I would agree that Raven One will be awesome when it's ready, the book was amazing.

Hey folks,

What's the most interesting/ immersive/ realistic campaign for the Hornet currently on either NTTR or Persian Gulf Maps?

Cheers!

Right now, among the free ones, I'd take a look to GWDope's Operation Exigent Riviera part I and Operation Integral Resolve:

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3309469/ (Integral Resolve)

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/3309481/ (Integral Resolve 2 player coop version)

Mind you, they're hard campaigns, with long missions (you'll have to refuel very likely in all missions on your way in and on your way out) and you'll have to be proficient with every system and weapon on the Hornet.

They are both focused mostly on A2G, and both require the use of mods (nothing too fancy or invasive, US Deck crew for ER and Civilian aircraft mod for IR), check the descriptions for more informations.

Another one you should definitely check is MBot's Battle Group Delta:

You'll have to plug in his DCE, but it's very rewarding to see how your efforts influence the progress of the war. Mind you, Battle Group Delta is set in 1990, so you won't have fancy equipments (basically, it's iron bombs, Walleyes and HARMs, nothing more) and it has some problems in 2.5.6 (you can find more info and workarounds in the campaign thread).

Let me know if you're interested in campaigns on Caucasus, I'll throw in some other good ones.

I've been really enjoying the BFM Aggressor's campaign. Each mission is very similar running through a variety of opponent aircraft so I generally don't do more than one mission in a session but they are a blast and great for honing you BFM skills (especially in VR!!). Very well put together and great for learning lots of operating procedures on the NTTR generally.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I downloaded this but am unsure where to unzip the folder? Do I just fire up the .miz files separately via the mission editor or can i actually have it via the "campaigns" section on the main UI screen?

Hi Ganky,

Dude... Comments like this are what give the will to keep making and updating them. Tks, it means a lot to me!

Btw, do you know what “Civil Aircraft Mod” specifically that the campaign requires, pls?

Edit: Nevermind, just found out how to install it.

All the best and, once more, tks!

Also in the DCE campaigns you can edit a notepad file to change what kind of missions you get.

So you want the USN to play with a F14B bombcat AND do fleet defenders in BG alpha 80s? Change strike:'false' to 'true'.

Ill also add IMO the spiciest (for me) dce campaign so far has been the IRIAF F14 versus a coalition campaign. Youre fighting USN, USAF, French mirages and even a small swedish viggen contingent.

They really outdid themselves - the coalition will try and hit your EWR sites and stuff. Iran will try hitting civilian convoys first and other stuff. And its really hard.

I vote for DCE campaigns. Once I got them working it was the most immersive enviroment Ive seen in flight sims in a lonnnng time. The damage is persistent, and makes a difference. Blah blah. You almost certainly will never win a campaign single handedly but you can definitely contribute a lot to losing one.

Only downside to DCE is it really is tracking the numbers of planes and planes in reserve and ammo etc for both sides. Its amazing. However unlike a scripted campaign where the world revolves around you in DCE youre just entering and reentering the world. However when you do so youre putting the "clock" on you - so if you crash at take off you should either restart or time accelerate and walk away 10 min. Why? To let the AI flights do their thing. Otherwise it wont screw up the campaugn but to the campaign nothing literally happened (besides your plane) and whatever in that 30 seconds *and time youre supposed to be alive* plus sometimes its good to let an ai flight at least drop its bombs before quitting.

Also Id delay startup from the carriers for a quick second on time acc. To see if they turn into the wind. As it totally f 's up INS
