Planning new build + Reverb - am I wasting my time with a 2070 super?

I'm planning new build + Reverb - am I wasting my time with a 2070 super?

looking at a Ryzen 7 3700X w 64gb 3200C16 and a 2070 super. I'm Thinking along the lines of a 3080Ti eventually but for now to get up and running will a 2070super let me enjoy VR in DCS albeit with lowered settings?

Edit:- 64gb is for home labbing VMs for work etc.

Certainly . The 2070s offers equivalent performance to the 1080ti so...

Heheh I think I should have worked the OP better... :)

Is that a "Certainly" for

"am I wasting my time with a 2070 super?" or

"will a 2070super let me enjoy VR in DCS albeit with lowered settings?"

Nate

I'll take responsibility for that one as well :) . 2070S will do fine as an interim card .

A 2070 Super is no 1080Ti. Sorry.

You're right, the 2070 is cheaper, has real world performance within low single-digit percentages of the 1080Ti and a little less VRAM that would be wasted in DCS anyway.

Windows 10 64-bit | Ryzen 9 3900X 4.00GHz (OC) | Asus Strix B450-F | 64GB Corsair Vengeance @ 3000MHz | two Asus GeForce 1070 Founders Edition (second card used for CUDA only) | two Silicon Power 1TB NVMe in RAID-0 | Samsung 32" 1440p Monitor | two ASUS 23" 1080p monitors | ASUS Mixed Reality VR | Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS | MFG Crosswind

Actually , YT channel Benchmark PC Tech comparison of some 50+ games , the 2070S traded blows very effectively with a 1080ti .

Flown with a Reverb and 5700XT, which is on performance level of 1080Ti and 2070S ... it works. It's not the end all be all but it works, you would want to upgrade down the line before showing this to someone you know but hasn't tried flight sims in VR yet for example - not sharp enough.

With my Reverb I use the 12GB video memory. Sure it will work with the 2070 Super too. But I think the 2070 S is quite expensive for its performance.

What GPU is the OP using right now?

Just put in lodAdd 2000 and lod 0.1 and enjoy fluid 90 FPS now. Does not look like digital combat flight simulator anymore, but it is fun for one time.
