no idea:) exciting isn't it

my guess is it reduces the area where AA is actually applied .. how or what impact it has dunno

You can enable that in the nVidia Control Panel.

From that web-page: "VRSS is completely handled from within the NVIDIA display driver without application developer integration."

Yes, but DCS is not affected by it sadly. There are only a few games that are on nVidia's list for it to function, and DCS is not one of them.

Still no clue what is the best scenario to use both options.

Indeed: the control panel says "the application needs to be profiled by nVidia and have MSAA enabled". You'd wish we'd get something from nVidia that just works out of the box, to improve our VR experience...

Anyhow, I hope ED comments on what those options actually do. "Bloom" sounds like just a lighting effect, and the other perhaps a more efficient way to calculate MSAA to reduce the performance impact? That would be my guess...

This feature is available only for applications which meet below criterion and are profiled by NVIDIA:

DirectX 11 VR applications

Forward Rendered with MSAA

Not compatible with DCS as it used deferred rendering, not forward rendering

MSAA mask is probably the same feature as in Kegetys' VR mod. It only performs MSAA on a circle in front of you whose radius is determined by the mask size. That way you don't bother applying anti-aliasing to the edges of your vision where you can't notice it anyways.

edit: I haven't tried the new update yet, but if it's the same thing above it's easy to see for yourself. Set a small mask, like 0.3 or something, and if you look off-center, you should see how the aliasing gets visibly worse past a certain boundary.

It’s similar kegetys mod has two masks, one to mask the area you can’t see outside the lenses and a second for antialiasing

So, what do we think are good settings here in terms of use/don’t use mod, mod antialiasing plus DCS MSAA mask or no mod AA etc.

I can’t get my head around this! I remain very disappointed with the VR performance in this patch.

dunno what bloom effect is, but unchecking it definitely helps frametime,

I did small comparsion:

left -previous 47404

mid - 49314

right - 49314 with bloom effect off

Clean instalation, no MODs, setting - see the pic

No MSAA will always give better performance, so turn it off completely if you want best FPS. Bloom is a lighting effect: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloom_(shader_effect)

As it's an extra effect, turning it off can only help performance.

Thanks, but I was asking about combinations of masks etc., with and without mod.

It is interesting that I get nearly the same frames in VR with 4x mssa and 2x msaa. Seems that 4x msaa requires less performance than before. But it looks way better. Perhaps the new VR mask helps to make 4x mssa usable in VR. With both I get low 30s in the coldstart mission. But only when I look to the tower. When I look in the cockpit I get my 45 FPS most of the time with my reverb. ED it seems you move in the right direction!

Ok tested a F16 freeflight an 4xmsaa is still Eating up FPS. Seems that something else is FPS costly on the supercarrier
