Nealius
Between engine start and hooking up to the cat, at what point does the pilot set TO trim and the additional trim for cat launches? There doesn't appear to be any time to do so between getting signals from the yellowshirts, and I notice the AI taxi with neutral trim until the hook up. When is the trim process typically done in real life?
Flamin_Squirrel
Document that shall not be named I have here says prior to hooking up to the cat.
Nealius
Just anytime prior, or was there a specific timing? I couldn't find anything in the P816, P1211, or CV NATOPS.
Flamin_Squirrel
It's mentioned in the '18 NATOPS, but not very specific.
G B
During startup. After hitting the TO trim button and getting the Trim advisory.
Nealius
During startup. After hitting the TO trim button and getting the Trim advisory. Thanks. I wish we had more documentation about the CV startup and movement procedures. The most detailed info I can find is all for shore ops.
G B
Thanks. I wish we had more documentation about the CV startup and movement procedures. The most detailed info I can find is all for shore ops. In that case, here’s a nugget for you. On shore we do the takeoff checklist via the checklist page from top to bottom. On the ship we use the checklist page from bottom to top, as that logically covers things in the order they happen on the ship (i.e you arm the seat as soon as your chocks and chains are removed, you do your control wipeout last on the catapult, etc.) Edited May 24, 2020 by G B
