My Current DCS Settings for 2.5.6

Recommended Posts

you can do this by setting this through the registry, see here

https://forums.battlefield.com/en-us/discussion/48138/performace-boost-how-to-set-process-priority-permanently

and replace bf1.exe with dcs etc...

Awesome! Thanks!

And a huge thanks for this guide! I had just about given up on playing in VR mode (built a head tracker etc). But I'm in love with it again.

I'm shocked how "well" it even runs on my system now.

Question about your in game resolution settings: I was of the understanding that only effected to resolution shown on the display(mirrored) while in VR. Is this not the case?

the in game resolution only effects when you are in 2d mode, in VR it has no impact at all ?

Pretty sure I read that somewhere, and turning it down actually help the VR side performance. Which makes me wonder why the display is mirrored at all?

Edit: Found it

Resolution – This is the resolution of the mirror image that will be on your 2D screen. I set it as low as possible because you are in VR and no one is looking at it anyway. Just make sure you press Alt+Enter to enter full screen mode because otherwise your mouse till stray outside the DCS window.

i have never seen any positive benefit in terms of memory, cpu or gpu frame time from reducing the amount 2d screen resolution, it also has zero observable difference if you actually look at the 2d screen, when running VR and you change those settings

Given 2.5.6.52437 stable active today... what shader mod version is known to work with this version?

EDIT: got it working with VR Shaders 2.5.6.50321, only had to wait quite a while for it all to finally render. Did it while "at work" so it could run in background in my office. Given how long it took, setting it to render while "at work" saves from interfering with my few hrs of actual evening play time between episodes of Dark! Fun times! WW

it will also need to render each terrain ... and jet ... so you may find it doing it again

it works well with the DCS World 2.5.6.49314 VR Shadermod (both versions. Clear water and IC pass)

With the latest Beta Vr Shader mod DCS World 2.5.6.50321 version it occures a game crash at start (both versions don't work) :cry_2:

This is a pretty good thread, will give some of your settings a try. I have the Rift S, but hopefully some of this translates to better performance for me as well.

i have no real knowledge of the RIFT-S, i know it drives far fewer pixels but beyond that ... fingers crossed for you :)

I had a question about the shader mod. Have canopy reflections been re-added? Or was that ever excluded with the "simplified canopy" portion?

I am back to seeing the reflections on certain parts of the canopy. Like the top of the HUD dash reflecting on the front screen and sometimes the HUD brackets will reflect on the sides. I could certainly live without them if it would be a fps increase at all.

No canopy reflections have neither been added or removed to my knowledge in the shader mods

Should they be there? Just curious if I applied it incorrectly

depends on what your settings are for the F-18 or f-16 , which has an option to turn them off

Very interesting, for me PD/supersampling makes spotting go to hell but MSAA makes it better. However I also decided it isn't worth it for perf, and it seems to smudge some text too.

Great info on the settings. Thank you. I'm running a 2080ti, so am going to reset back to these and tweak some more. My current setting seem quite good with the exception that when I look 90 deg off either wing line and then roll the jet - there is an initial jitter/slight blur on ground & objects I'm looking at. Any idea what setting(s) might address that.

And a follow-on question: What do the new setting in the DCS System settings setting do? I'm talking specifically about SSAA, SSLR, Bloom and Mask. What do they do and what effect (if any) do they have in VR?

Thanks!

This represent my settings files for VR in 2.5.6 (latest beta 49314 at time of writing), and utilising WMR and STEAM VR.

I let SteamVR manage Motion Reprojection.

Steam VR Settings:

y4mXjakK0rOF1SQP12bX1u2CKJqtPBofdVAEK-yEVmi3Jh4nqArU9rXawfRX1jNJ3SqSPRtZRG0cS7UxynZxPNMQ_vDb4hRiwVPPKrEJVvgyNVjeSeEt6JcUO2G9W_Ao6v3NoHPmTl9mEjDuBCiJ4Gy6216u8_T6wgcYclrysVh4vILqBk9yV9zgja8Q5QuukCe

I set this as close to 100% native as I can.

Steam VR per Application Video Settings:

y4mu6rt-wUKmuyBLBfXJ6yvh6ExT2tT4RVkxkVB8wlQkY10ZzdEj54EPLdhpmIeZ0abGfYeFKfGDcpZuNdCIthve_ZEyraCu-ZuzQe9sDAAXP06zCV1LlsLKP7jyRxBdtr0X_Aljz4p4on6pUk5nE7OZWeuXiMV-KW6kHqnzV9OWOB2cmZNUaSRl2awksHXP5NU

I use steam to manage the motion reprojection; i would also use this setting with a more powerful graphics card to increase the steam super sampling rate, and i maybe will again later in 2.5.6's release cycle hopefully when some of the VR improvements come through.

One addition question as I didn't see this screenshot in your OP.... Do you suggest my advanced Super Sample Filtering be ON or OFF and what is ideal for "Overlay Render Quality". Thanks again!
