Pilot Body?

Luft Waffel

Recommended Posts

I read the planned features list for early access from June last year, it said that the in-cockpit pilot body would come very soon but its a year later now and when I use RShift + P still nothing happens. Has this feature been cancelled or is it still planned? Idk anything about DCS development but surely they could just remove the head from the existing external pilot model and use the rest of that for the pilot body?

Not today and tomorrow I’m working all day till late 😭😂
looks good though. I wonder if there will be random hand movements or animations as discussed?

Unfortunately not for the time being. We tried, but without IK it is nigh impossible to get it to look as we'd like, however this is something we will continue to keep on our radar and improve over time as possible. We had a great many things in mind, including hand signals, but all that will have to wait for now unfortunately. Thank you for your kind understanding.

It’s fine I’m just really happy to have a high quality pilot model for the F14 it will make a huge difference for my VR experience

I second this! I am very happy!

One minor nit-pick though: the pilot's feet don't move when the pedal brakes are activated. This looks a bit weird :P

Flying the Tomcat feels so complete for me now. It’s amazing. Incredible how detailed PC flight simming has become.

Thank you! I can finally experience proper pilot view. No more drone flying.

I disabled the body for a moment... OMG! No! Empty cockpit! Bring back the pilot! :shocking:

I was silently hoping for some new tech (HB being them) wrt to switches obstructed by hands but not this time I guess. I did not find this being any problem in first hours.

Time was too short or some file was lost just when uploading the update.

Also the pilot body is twisted to the left in the chair... but... hey... it's free.

Thanks everyone! Further upgrades will come and of course we'll fix the pedal bug.
The patches are rather inflexible right now so later on we'll try to add variations that can be triggered (e.g. triangle patches, etc.). Pilot wise, the next step is HGU-55 and equipable eyewear (sunglasses, et al.) with movable visors.

We're working on this - but we are unable to do it presently due to a lack of engine-supported IK. Once added; we'll add animations for major movements (e.g. pulling gear handle, etc.)

A decade of snark later... 😉😄

This is the natural movement required when the throttle is at or close to idle in the F-14 and the hand is on the stick. It's low and far back in the cockpit relative to the pilot. The body would likely twist slightly to straight on when firewalling the throttle, but this is not possible to add due to a lack of IK (the stick hand would float off the stick if throttle based twist was added).

It really was a decade? time really flies! 🍻

It's not a big deal the twist but the body should actually resembles "our real body" in VR instead of the real life posture. For me at least it breaks the immersion a little when looking down at "it" in VR. Maybe an option in "special"?

Also it seems  need to lower the view and raise the seat (or viceversa?... I'm so old) to get a "realistic" perspective. Meaning the (invisible) head on the shoulders and then the HUD properly viewed on the windshield. Saving the default view doesn't seem to work on such extreme values  (maybe). I can make a short video in Quest 2 if necessary.

Hey Cobra, what is "IK"? Is it planned to add it to the engine?
