Bassel Al-Assad?

Very exciting! Looking forward to seeing more!

Lebanon:

  • Beirut International Airport
  • Rayak
  • Wujah Al Hajar
  • Rene Mouawad
  • Bassel Al-Assad

Isn't Bassel Al-Assad in Syria (where Khmeimim Air Base is) and not Lebanon, though? Or is there another Bassel Al-Assad in Lebanon?

King Hussein Air College is in Jordan (Mafraq Air Base), and as far as I can see, the only Hatay in the area covered b the map is in Turkey.

King Hussain Air College gives a good indication of how far south the detailed part of the map extends. The project description previously available at Ugra Media's now dead website mentioned Irbid and Jerash in the south, and Gaziantep in the North, so with a map size of 600x500km I'd expect it to go as far east as approximately Deir ez-Zor.

Why is Hatay listed in Syria ? Sadly it seems there is no Hmeymim airbase ?

Hmeymim = Bassel Al-Assad, so it's there, just listed under the wrong country. There were a few screenshots from Hmeymim on Ugra Media's website before it disappeared.

Will Cyprus be included?

No, it is beyond the scope of this map at release. While it may be possible in the future if sales are strong, it is not currently planned.

I really hope this will happen!

Any info on whether the mesh will be higher res, like in the channel map (some places) and the upcoming Mariannas map? PG looks nice, but the mountains are really low in detail. I hope Syria will change that. Channel map detail, but Caucasus map size.

Jesus... that looks really stunning. Hopefully by the end of 2020 i will be able to blast around these monuments.

Really, really well done Ugra Media.

The Tornado is being developed by as many people as the Tornado Development Team contains. It progresses rapidly with the speed of the Tornado development progress. It will be released at the Tornado release date.

That would be even more amazing. But anyway, I'm really looking forward to it.

Next map: Central Europe - Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, a part of France, Netherlands & Luxemburg. Following that Eastern Europe - Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and further east.

Probably not, if I look at the amount of details and lighting effects.

The Caucasus map features the outline of the entire Black Sea as no-detail coastline but with usable sea-space for naval operations. How much of the Eastern Mediterranean will the Syria map feature as no-detail coastline?

Legit Curiosity:

By not including Cyprus and the Med surrounding it, aren’t you kind of forcing Carrier Ops to occur closer to the eastern shore of the Med than might be “prudent?”

I mean you have to draw the line somewhere. Same way you could've included more parts or Iran or Qatar on the PG map. I think the scope of this map is more than enough. We also havent seen the actual map outline yet.

Fantastic looking map - cannot wait!

Also, I always wanted to ask this as this appears pretty much everywhere in DCS (mainly when 90 deg angles are involved when one 3D object connects to another):

How come the shadows shown in the screenshot below (marked with red arrows) do not connect with the base of the fence/wall? This leaves a gap that looks is if light seeps through that looks somewhat unrealistic. Is that a settings thing (draw distance doesn't seem to affect it), or an engine thing?

The right side of the image shows what should be shown, assuming that this somehow could be addressed in the current DCS engine...

Thanks for any insights.

Looks as if the ground dips away from the bottom of the fence while that section of fence does not dip with the ground contour. There might be a minimum distance at work where they can’t render a “bent fence” to follow the terrain. So actually, the shadow is correct referenced to that section of fence. It’s the fence itself that’s not dipping down into that swale.
