imacken
Not sure if this is a bug or been mentioned before, but the AB sound kicks in before the AB itself kicks in as can be seen in a F2 view. Harker
The afterburner flame cone is showing up before the flame in the turbine exhaust itself. I think the actual issue is that the flame FX in the turbine takes too long to show up and then it progresses through the stages too slowly. It's like it lags. I use a physical AB detent on my throttle and I hear the AB sound effect come on just as I pass it, so it sounds correct to me. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. Harker
Yeah, seems to be this way, at least to me. Do the same test, but try to correlate things with the sharp increase in fuel flow on the IFEI (which is when the AB kicks in). You'll see that the sound and the flame cone start at the correct moment, but the flame FX in the turbine starts later and then takes a long time to go through the different stages. Stubbies2003
Pay attention to your fuel flow. That is the true indicator of when AB is engaged.

speed-of-heat
so here is my observation; on my current throttle curve (physical detent) i get the boom essentially as it meets the detent, i can sit there all day and i never get any cone at all ... my fuel flow at 7000ft is a stable 154 to both engines ... if i go into burner over the detent i quickly rise to 326 dropping back over the detent im back to a stable 154 SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware Intel Corei7-12700KF @ 5.1/5.3p & 3.8e GHz, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Dell S2716DG, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO

speed-of-heat
BN what fuel flow at what altitude? for clarity im checking 1) Level flight at 7k feet... 2) advance the throttles until the AB "bang" in the f-18 (the bang presents itself just over 100 in FF) 3) and then checking externally and no AB Cone is present, even after say 10-20 seconds 4) FF is stable at 151, so it is a big rise, but no external burner cone 5) I get a cone at 202 and then a full cone at max throttle i always assumed that the burner cone was always present (eventually) if the aircraft was in AB?No Burner but a bang.trk Edited July 1, 2020 by speed-of-heat added track SYSTEM SPECS: Hardware Intel Corei7-12700KF @ 5.1/5.3p & 3.8e GHz, 64Gb RAM, 4090 FE, Dell S2716DG, Virpil T50CM3 Throttle, WinWIng Orion 2 & F-16EX + MFG Crosswinds V2, Varjo Aero SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11, VoiceAttack & VAICOM PRO
Furiz
Since we are talking about the sounds, AB sound in the hornet if you don't use the option to increase it, it is almost to none. Could it be a increased a bit? Helmet sounds.

Could it be a increased a bit? Helmet sounds. Helmet sounds are for digital sounds produced by the aircraft and routed to the pilot via the cable, such as radio comms, warnings, RWR tones etc. You're thinking of the In-Cockpit sounds. Furiz
Helmet sounds are for digital sounds produced by the aircraft and routed to the pilot via the cable, such as radio comms, warnings, RWR tones etc. You're thinking of the In-Cockpit sounds. When you use "hear like in helmet" the world sounds dampen, everything becomes quieter, including the engine sound, only the alarms, coms and stuff you hear through the headphones in the helmet remain the same, but the AB sound is really low, with all the other noise mixed up you can't hear it. That's what I was thinking about. In the F16 you really hear when you are in the afterburner with same sound settings. This maybe should be a separate topic. 84-Simba
Hi there ! Has the engine lag been tweaked lately on the Hornet ? I find the transition from MIL to fullburner quite long - 5+ sec (and the other way down also). Is there maybe an official duration or timing I could check ? I just switched from a Winwing Orion 1 to 2. I think everything is calibrated and the AB detent is right where it needs to be. I'm not using any curve (and I can't remember if I had some on the Orion 1) Thx guys.
