hey to all

after last update I noticed that there is a problem wirh the cockpit lights (red/white), the nose wheel landing/takeoff landing and with formation lights as well. The lights seem to be very dim.

Any Idea? thanx

I agree that all internal and external lights are pretty dim now.

I disagree. You guys are expecting too much brightness. The hornet for example is imo completely overdone and unnatural. They are only difficult to see in direct sunlight, which is how it is supposed to be, especially for lights with frosted coating, which our SMEs confirmed. Everyone will have to get used to this please, because that is how the new lighting works in DCS. We have no intentions on changing the lights anymore, that said, if we find we can adjust them a bit while not making them look unrealistic again, we will. But there is also a balance that needs to be achieved, so in general it will stay like it is.

I explained more here, in this post, if you wanna take a look.

I based my opinion on this picture. I can't get the lights to be so bright in DCS.

Anyhow, the cockpit light wheels are broken, they go up to only 3 when the key binding is used. If that’s done, I’m happy with it as a final version :)

Pictures are no good reference at all, the lights always appear more saturated than they are.

I think we are not that far off, albeit it is a bit darker in DCS when the "glow" sets in, but that is nothing we can influence, that is how DCS lighting is. It will likely never be exactly as in real life, our SMEs think that in general everything in DCS is a tad too dark, with or without lights. You can observe this also when you look at the shadow side of an aircraft, how red almost turns black etc, irl you'd still see the color more clearly, despite the shade and so on.

Here, take a look.

I personally think that the red light on the cockpit gauges in this picture is actually a reflection of the red evening sun and not the actual cockpit lights. In this case the sun is at his (approximate) 5 o'clock position

The RIO pit warning/advisory lights are much worse. I can't imagine this is how it should be:

Especially the Master Caution must be kind of noticebable for the RIO?!

DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!

You're right, they appear more dim than the front pit. We will take a look.

Thanks a lot! Those lights have even been way too dim before ED messed with the lighting and is giving me a headache since the Tomcat has been released.

I bug reported this a few weeks ago, if it may be of any help. Thanks for looking into it though!

Thanks I must have missed that! There are so many light threads by now it is a bit hard to keep track which one I answered already and which not hehe. It's definitely on our radar now though.

Thanks! Please don't forget also the RIO advisory right side panel (not in the above picture) The pilot one works fine in daylight, if RIO pit can get that love all will be finally fine :)

This is the current taxi light. Outside- before take off:

This is a the moment of touchdown (from the cockpit)

I find it hard to swallow that any SME vouched for this one. Why even have taxi lights when the light up nothing?

As for the external lights- it is hard to argue with the SME card, since I have never seen an F-14 (especially at night) myself, but I have seen lights- and the Tomcat seems seriously underlit. I thought the point of navigation and strobe lights was to make the plane visible

In this pic, the AC is lit up by the moon. It sure would not be easy to see it if not. All lights on full:
