Video Card Rumours

Recommended Posts

Big Navi = 3080 (at 4k rasterization)

Probably:

Better price (DDR6)

Better availability (DDR6)

More VRAM (DDR6)

Less Power Draw (DDR6, better chip process)

now I am officially hyped

Nvidia borked it

And with some luck it will run on my cheapo Motherboard and 650 Watt PSU as well :-) Such an attractive offer probably :-) My son will be happy to use my 1080Ti.

guessclaimbench (I would be glad to read your results on your latest HW)

Borderlands3 Badass quality 4k

1080TI 35 FPS

2080TI 50 FPS

3080 60 FPS?

BigNavi 60 FPS?

3090 65 FPS?

I'm more looking at mid range CPU and GPU from AMD to make sure I'm safe playing in VR in the future...

So wait and see but it looks like the next generation AMD is going to be strong for gaming...

I figure this is NVIDIA showing some concern about the new AMD offerings that are coming and starting to pivot to see what their next product should be.

If AMD releases a card with ~3080 performance and 16GB of VRAM then NVIDIA will definitely have to up their refresh plans.

IIRC the rumours of low yields on GDDR6X are not valid according to other rumours but lets NV save face a bit perhaps.

We are all being played to maximize our spend.

Yeah , Nvidea seems to be saying "If you want more than 10gb , you'll have to buy a 3090" . That card is overkill on so many levels ! I see AMD selling a lot more 6900's to disappointed Nvidea users-likely me for one-pending some benchmarks .

it's a shame . That Asus TUF was looking mighty good with 20gb - and i never considered Asus before !

This generation might be another short lived dud that's why they may be cancelled the "VRAM enriched" versions. I suspect this because NVIDIA got the inferior manufacturing process from SAMSUNG 8NM, very low availability and giving recent news that they have switched back to the same node AMD is using from TSMC so they may gearing up 4000 series next year already.

Nvidia played the cards badly imho. If they skip the 20GB versions many users will cross the river to the other side and it's usually hard to get them back if they feel good on the other side.

10GB is a joke and being forced to buy into 3090 series is a BAD joke. Feels like a slap in your face.

I may upgrade my mobo/cpu end of this year for taxes, I will 100% buy AMD if I do that and if I also opt for a new GPU which I honestly don't need it would be AMD too.

None of the rigs I built last few years on AMD were anything but great, I will do the same treat for me if the tax papers say "spend it !"

One more reason to not buy Nvidia right now.

According to the leaked benchmarks, BigNavi´s raytracing could be only slightly better than the 2080Tis but in other areas be even better than the 3080.

I also dont think raytracing will make it into DCS before the next series launches. So this is of no consideration for me.

Nvidia could be in a tight spot right now, if AMD really can catch up and offer good availability. Going to TMSC 7nM will take some time, but gains also will be mostly on the efficiency-side. I would not expect 10%+ perf from that move, since it only would offer slighly higher clockspeeds.

But going that route (4000 series early next year) for sure will piss off many people, that bought a 3080 (with only 10GB of RAM) or 3090, just to see their card being old after only a short period of time.

Competition could only be good for us. Even though I think, that the CPU-bottleneck still is a problem and will keep us from finally getting good fps in VR, even GPUs are getting faster and faster.

Those 16/20GB cards wouldn't have made any sense in any scenario where capacity wasn't a limiting factor. The only reason the 3080 is 10GB instead of 12 is that the additional vram ICs would have bumped up the bandwidth, and neutralized the small advantage the 3090 actually has. So if AMD ends between really close and beating the 3080, they'll basically have to put out a 12GB 3080/3090. 12*1GB ICs, would outperform 10*2GB ICs, making a 20GB card really stupid. Personally, I refuse to step down in capacity from my current 11GB, just as much as I won't pay over $800 for a GPU. I barely wanted to fork out $700 for this 1080ti.

I'm just looking for the best on this new build. I have everything I need except the new 5950X CPU and I will likely be pairing that with a 3090. Excited to see the actual new AMD Big Navi numbers on Wed. The better they are the more it helps us all!

Most of the higher-end cards are almost non-existent. I think the next generation will also follow.....slow inventory to drive up prices..hype...rumors....trying to purchase is a joke...by the time products are available, the next generation is announced

with the same old hype and non existent inventory.

If you're someone looking for a graphics-card and can't find any in stock and/or at decent prices, you've noticed that it has been happening also with mid-tier models, and not just with high end new models. Even the used market has been affected.

There are issues with scalping, issues with shipping, even manufacturing components issues making for less GPUs being manufactured.

On top of that, the old threat of mining rigs and farms is making a rough comeback...

Be patient, this can't last forever.

I gave up upgrading, and rumours seem to support my early speculation that AMD /NVIDIA are already gearing up for next release exactly 1 year from now with much more powerful GPU's. Current GFX's are becoming too expensive for this short life span.

Totally agree. RTX 3090 from EVGA goes for 2299€ here (official shop price). Just plain crazy and even then it's only available on pre-order with no time window.

AMD XT 6900 X which has an official recommended price of $999 goes on sale for 1830$, also on pre-order.

For me the crypto currency crap can't be trashed quickly enough because it's one of the major causes.

Win11 Pro 64-bit, Ryzen 5800X3D, Corsair H115i, Gigabyte X570S UD, EVGA 3080Ti XC3 Ultra 12GB, 64 GB DDR4 G.Skill 3600. Monitors: LG 27GL850-B27 2560x1440 + Samsung SyncMaster 2443 1920x1200, HOTAS: Warthog with Virpil WarBRD base, MFG Crosswind combat pedals, TrackIR4, Rift-S.

Personal Wish List: A6 Intruder, Vietnam theater, decent ATC module, better VR performance!
