LucShep
source: https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-introduces-geforce-rtx-4090-4080-series-rtx-4090-launches-october-12th-for-1599-usd NVIDIA debuts “Ada” GeForce RTX 40 series NVIDIA formally introduces three new graphics cards. The new RTX 40 series are here. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang has now officially introduced RTX 4090, RTX 4080 16GB and RTX 4080 12GB models, the first SKUs from the next-generation of graphics series codenamed “Ada”. The flagship NVIDIA RTX 40 GPU features 76 billion transistors and TSMC 4N process technology. New architecture introduces 3rd Gen RT core and 4th Gen Tensor Core. NVIDIA confirms Ada Lovelace supports DLSS 3 upscaling technology. For game streaming, NVIDIA RTX 40 GPUs have dual AV1 encoders supporting up to 8K 60 FPS recordings. NVIDIA RTX 4090 The new flagship features AD102-300 GPU with 16384 CUDA cores and boost clock up to 2520 MHz. This means a single-precision performance of 82.6 TFLOPS, 2.3x more than its predecessor RTX 3090. The flagship SKU based on Ada architecture will be equipped with 24GB of GDDR6X memory, with peak bandwidth at 1 TB/s. This new card will require even more power than 3090 Ti, by at least 100W, with default TDP of 450W. NVIDIA confirms this model will launch on October 12 at 1599 USD. The Founders Edition pictured below is a triple-slot design powered by one 16-pin power connector. The company announced multiple designs from its board partners, including ZOTAC, Inno3D, Colorful, Palit, Gainward, Gigabyte, MSI and ASUS. Unsurprisingly, there is no EVGA card. NVIDIA RTX 4080 series Jensen Huang also announced two graphics cards sharing the same model number but different memory and GPU specs. The RTX 4080 16GB is to feature an AD103 GPU with 9728 CUDA cores, a total of 16GB of GDDR6X memory clocked at 22.5 Gbps and TDP of 320W. This model is set to launch in November for at least 1199 USD. What was supposed to be RTX 4070 is being introduced as RTX 4080 12GB. This SKU has AD104 GPU and 7680 CUDA cores. As the name suggests, there is 12GB GDDR6X memory on this model and TDP at 285W. NVIDIA has put a 899 USD price on this SKU. None of the RTX 40 GPUs has NVLink and they are using PCIe Gen4 x16 interface. VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants
First, I will sit and wait. God know how many 40 cards will be available on Day 1, let alone the price. The more concerning thing is, what we have shown so far are with RTX or with DLSS3, so this one fly DCS, we have no idea how much better it may get. 3 VR Flight Guy in PJ Pants -- this is how I fly. Lurker
People please don't buy into the hype. Not just yet. The "double" or "tripple" performance in the marketing blurbs is probably with DLSS 3.0 enabled, there is no way that these video cards are so much faster than the previous generation in regular rendering. dburne
Nvidia can suck it this time around as far as I am concerned. Pretty much this. ^^ I'm not hopeful that AMD will show something unbelievable for the (lower?) price, but hey... maybe they don't disapoint this time around and, instead, deliver a surprising uplift in performance for a better, decent price (than Nvidia). Or at least I feel that AMD needs to dethrone Nvidia in this coming generation. In anycase, I think - as most people start to as well - that the used market seems like the far better decision this time around, at least for the next six months or so. I'm also entertaining the idea of getting a used 3080Ti or 3090 some point later (hopefully not too far) down the road. RTX 3000 series prices will come further down, which will also force lower prices on used cards flooding the market (and vice-versa)... and, at a certain point, this is the opportunity window to take advantage of, while it lasts. Meanwhile, RTX 4000 series in Europe will have MSRP at 22% inflated price, and we know that doesn't even reflect the real prices (will be higher).... If the AMD Navi3 launch is something surprising (for the positive) and the initial reviews favour them, these Nvidia prices will have to come down. Meaning, leave the desperate people with deep pockets to bite the bait.... Or at least I feel that AMD needs to dethrone Nvidia in this coming generation. As I have switched to Team Red 3 generations ago with a pretty cheap Vega64 to replace my aging GTX780 Nvidia couldn't convince me to play their price game. And with my actual RX6900XTU GPU DCS runs pretty smooth in 2D and QHD with over 80 FPS most of the time. But what still lacks is an adequate VR support within AMDs drivers. Compared to what NV cards with much less performance could deliver in VR AMD has to close this gap before I will decide on a new graphics card from them. As the new 40th line-up from Nvidia is a no go at those retail prices I maybe decide to get a 3090 if prices drop a good amount further over the next months and AMD still won't deliver equal VR performance with its new cards. 2 Primary for DCS and other flightsims: i9 12900K@default OC on MSI Z790 Tomahawk (MS-7D91) | 64 GB DDR5-5600 | Asus TUF RTX3090 Gaming OC | 1x 38"@3840x1600 | 1x 27"@2560x1440 | Windows10Pro64 Spoiler Secondary: i7 11700k@5.1GHz on MSI Z590 Gaming Force MB| 64 GB DDR4-3200 | PowerColor RX6900XTU Red Devil | 1x 32"@2560*1440 + 1x24"@1980*1200 | Windows10Pro64 Backup: i7 6700K@4.8GHz | 64 GB DDR4-2400 | PowerColor RX5700XT Red Devil | SSD-500/1000GB | 1x49" 32:9 Asus X49VQ 3840x1080 | Windows10Pro64 Flightsim Input Devices: VPC: ACE2 Rudder / WarBRD Base / T-50CM2 Base with 50mm ext. / Alpha-R, Mongoos T-50CM, WarBRD and VFX Grip / T-50CM3 Throttle | VPC Sharka-50 + #2 Controle Panel | TM Cougar MFD-Frames| Rift S - Secondary: TM HOTAS WARTHOG/Cougar Throttle+Stick, F-18-Grip | TM TPR Rudder | DelanClip/PS3-CAM IR-Tracker

BitMaster
As it seems, according to the latest GPU and ATX 3.0 news, any card that draws that much power will likely run into an issue...and it's not nvidia or AMD to blame here, it's a poorly designed plug for the desired usecase. This will draw some attention and may render the plug unusable or unsafe to use for cards like a 4090. Since the main issue are the tiny connectors and since the damage can happen on any end of the cable at any device PSU-CABLE-GPU one risks a lot of money when trying to push a 4090 to its default limits, let alone overclocked, and do a 4h burn in. Imho, they have to redesign the plug with bigger, more robust pins and more bend resistant. Wouldn't be surprised if that's the outcome of the letter shown.
