Also, DLSS 3. 0 Inserts fake frames (so that 100% FPS Increase is about 20%, and 80% Filler). Higher FPS, but also Higher Frame Latency.
This has already been proven, both by nVidia Spec sheets and Driver breakdowns.

Also, DLSS 3.0 does not work in VR.

So for the crowd begging ED to include DLSS 3.0 for DCS VR Performance or even 2D Performance,

this is 1 Reason why you should not jump on a bandwagon after the first shiny trailer is released.

Could you please elaborate this?

DLSS 3.0 as stated by nVidia does not work in VR, and will not be enabled if running a VR Application.

Considering how it works with filler frames, you really wouldn't want it to work in VR.

I hope AMD is doing something for us VR heads considering better VR support. The 6900xt is a beast when it comes to raw power, but with reprojection on (whether it's steamVR or openXR) it still falls behind my 3080.

I highly doubt that a 7900xt will provide enough power to keep 90 FPS steady, so my guess would be that reprojection is still required.

But one thing is clear for me already. I'm either updating to AMD or keep my 3080. Not gonna happen that I will throw any money towards team green this time.

If Nvidia is pricing it's laughable line-up the way they are, then they probably have it on good authority that AMDs offerings this time around will not exactly be stellar either.

As a producer of semi-conductor products myself, I have to give it to them, that this stuff has become incredible expensive in the first place. The more sophisticated, the pricier*. Pretty much everything is sold with a premium nowadays, ICs, PCBs, Connectors, Capacitors, Diodes.

AMD will face the same problem in principle. I would expect a similar increase in price for them. (No statement about quality or value for money here!)

(*that is a simplification! It has a lot more facets)

AMD Moved away from the "Bargain" Label with Ryzen Launch.

They surfed that Label because the FX Lineup and the Polaris->Pre rDNA Lineup couldnt compete with nVidia nor Intel, so to keep sales, they dumped prices to undercut the competition so much people wouldnt care about the performance difference.

7000 Series will likely undercut nVidia, as that GFX Card is set to have 1 or 2 Chiplets, and cost of 2 smaller chiplets is less than 1 super duper large chip,
nVidia still hasnt grasped that concept, they produce these HUGE chips, and only get a few per wafer, so production cost goes through the roof.

article from videocardz: https://videocardz.com/newz/amd-radeon-rx-6900xt-price-drops-below-700-usd-740-eur

AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT gets $300/€250 price cut

Two days before the arrival of next-gen NVIDIA GPU, AMD 2020 flagship Radeon card records its lowest price.

RDNA2-HERO-BANNER-1200x310.jpg

AMD has been reluctant to announce official price cuts for its Radeon RX 6000 series, but retailers leave no doubt that the official retailer prices from 2020 are a thing of a past, especially for the high-end series.

The Radeon RX 6900XT, which was the fastest GPU from AMD until the RX 6950XT launched this year, is now recording its lowest prices ever, dropping below 700 USD.
Some cards are now 1000 USD cheaper since they were in January this year.

The Radeon RX 6900XT features full Navi 21 GPU, 16GB of GDDR6x memory and has a TDP up to 300W.

Presently, two XFX cards are sold on Amazon US below 700 USD:

Those who look for even better deals, there is an offer at Newegg with ASRock Radeon RX 6900XT Phantom Gaming D now on sale for 669.99 USD.

In Europe, the lowest price for Radeon RX 6900XT is 736 EUR, which is around 250 EUR cheaper than it was in early September, and over 1000 EUR less than it was in January.

On Wednesday, NVIDIA launches its GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, shifting the performance charts in their favor. The only thing AMD can do now is to lower the price of existing models and prepare their Radeon RX 7000 series for successful launch next month.

Some very fair assumptions....
(and why only the RTX4090 is being launched and reviewed first, contrary to every previous generation)

I think right now the best card you can buy for DCS is the cheapest card with 24GB of VRAM.

Only the grey applies to DCS, the price/perf difference of a 3090/Ti to a 4080 makes no sense. The only 40X0 card to buy is the 4090 just because it is a halo card and you "have to have it".

I spent all my toys money on race car parts so no 3090 for me this season.

I'm looking forward to see what the next gen AMD GPUs can do.

I speculate the $/perf/W ratio will be an inflection point with the AMD cards and even with un-optimized games/drivers they will be a better buy. Kind of like how with this generation of CPUs the AMD is the way forward (full disclosure - I'm an Intel fan boi).

I truly believe AMD has this generation round in its pocket, IF they try just a little, be less greedy than Nvidia.
They don't need to beat the RTX4090, at all. They just need to deliver a good performance lift while pricing their products far more competitively.

Like many others, I'm patiently and calmly siting on the fence, watching the fanfare releases of both Nvidia and AMD, and waiting for things to settle down at the end of this year.
I get the feeling that, for me, it's probably going to be either a new RX7800XT (or whatever the AMD equivalent), or a used deal on a RTX3090 or RX6950XT.

don't know how many times Ima say it, but DLSS 3.0 is a placebo, the FPS boosts are using fake frames, and nVidia is using those numbers vs RTX3000, non DLSS Numbers...

if they (AMD) just could improve / optimize their drivers for VR, too - in 2D the 6900XT is already a beast, but in VR it lacks behind the average performance of a 3080 🤨

I don't have a VR setup. I don't know if this could make things better under AMD but lots of people are saying using OpenXR makes a huge difference to the performance under VR. Maybe try it if you aren't already using it.

With a RiftS there is no need for OpenXR as its supported directly in DCS. In the civil FS I use it already but it doesn't make much difference. Its a well known 'problem' that AMD seems to give a s**t on VR and doesn't care about improving its else good drivers for that, too.
