1) i tried the tarantula class ship but it looked like a lot of textures were missing. what is this ship supposed to look like?

Just answering the one I've looked at:

It looks ok to me (a bit grey) but it's basically a Molniya class Corvette in Vietnam colours with 16 x Kh-35 launch tubes instead of the 4 P-270 Moskit launch tubes (the lua file fires Moskit missiles though)

I'm testing a lua file for it that replaces the Moskit with Kh-35 Uran missiles which is more realistic for the model

Have you ever made any weapons for these ship mods?  I'm curious because it would make them a lot more realistic if you could.  The USS Constellation mod is a perfect example, it uses Harpoons instead of Naval Strike Missiles.

I also have a couple of issues with your Los Angeles class submarine mod.  It has the sail number 688 and shows up in game as "USS Los Angeles 688i", but that isn't correct.  USS Los Angeles was the lead ship of the class, and wasn't a 688i boat (the 688i boats have their forward dive planes on the upper hull rather than on the sail), and it didn't have the VLS tubes either (SSN-719 USS Providence was the first VLS boat).  Shouldn't be difficult to fix, just details that don't line up with the real-life subs.

This is what a 688i looks like.  No dive planes on the sail, but retains the VLS tubes from the Flight II (VLS) boats.

Also for some reason when I take control of the 688 in Combined Arms it has an invisible 25mm autocannon, like an M2 Bradley.

Hello "Admiral"
If you have a little time left, I have a wish for you for the year 2022:

Missile Launcher Frigate "D 602 SUFFREN"

Docked at DCAN Lorient on December 21, 1962, the missile frigate Suffren was floated on May 15, 1965 and admitted to active service on July 20, 1968.
Retired from active service, the last ceremony of the colors took place on September 20, 2001.

Designed specifically for the close protection of the Clemenceau and Foch aircraft carriers, it was with the Duquesne (its sister ship) one of the first protective combat vessels of a naval force capable of intervening against air and submarine threats. or surface, and possibly terrestrial.

It would make a great element for the French naval forces of DCS.

And thank you again for your extraordinary work

What place does this realistically have in DCS? Seems like an utter waste of time.

Hi,

It is "only" an imminent future.

Hi, the French and the Greek Navy have ordered several of these already. The first one is currently being built.

Then my point still stands, how and where would these fit into any DCS scenario when these ships aren't even in service let alone under sea trials.

One of the good thing wtih combat simulators is that they support new scenarii that can be imagined, layed down, explored, run unlimited times and refined. IMHO, it's at least as interesting as recreating histotical scenarii, the  outcome of which we already know. We can't reinvent the past. But prospective studies help us to imagine the future, and be prepared, as much as possible. My largest scenario involves fierce naval and air battles in the Persian Gulf, including a 2 hours pursuit of an allied amphibious group, protected by 3 carriers and their escorts. They are chased by 2 enemy carrier groups. The outcome, with respect to DCS limitations, is quite interesting...

Yet the results aren't really representative of anything are they? Whereas for instance we can play out scenarios from the 80's that never happened (Everything we simulate never happened, you can't actually "play" a simulation of history) because we largely have the assets and areas to do so. Whereas modern assets are far from being anything more than just visually represented (apart from the F-16/18 which are still both nearly two decades old, quite some distance from any 'Modern' scenario). This is why I love and support the work that Admiral is doing with all of these Cold War ships, because they were never used as they were designed to fight, thus we can do let them in DCS, while still being ground to all the unclassified stuff we know about them. Future weapons cannot have the same said for them sadly.

Here is my alternate lua file for the Tarantula Class Corvette (Vietnamese Molniya variant):

https://www.dropbox.com/s/14vixvoemgfd8s1/Tarantula Class Corvette.lua?dl=0

DIfferences from the original by Admiral189:

 - 16 x Kh35 Uran anti ship missiles

 - 2 x AK-630 CIWS

 - AK-176 Naval Gun

Also in case people want it, the new wake file for it:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/utighle3uru0h5k/Tarantula Class Corvette.lods.ship_wake?dl=0 (goes in the Shapes directory)

I tested it alongside the built-in Molniya & the main differences are:

- sits a bit lower in the water

- doesn't have the new avoidance/attack code that the Molniya & Combattante have in the latest version (I have no idea how they call this)

Yes, you're right. Nevertheless, Admiral's Constellation frigate is somehow quite new, as well as the HMS Duncan. And I totally agree with you that Admiral's Mods are perfects assets for playing numbers of scenarii wrt to the limitations of DCS and of unclassified characteristics of the ships. Further, the impressive work done by Admiral definitely extends the DCS arena beyond simple naval playgrounds.

Is this available somewhere?

There was a good model for the Suffren frigate developed for FSX, and quite good 3D models around. But the development a Mod for DCS remains to be done, unfortunately. The last message I saw from the developer Sebastien of the FSX model (call sign "rafalemirage") dates back to 2015, sadly.

All Los Angeles starting with Mod 2 have a 12 Tomahawk VLS?so what's the problem?

The problem is that SSN-688 is a Flight 1 boat, not a Flight 2, and the 688i is another name for Flight 3, Flight 2 boats were referred to as VLS boats.  What the Admiral has given us is clearly a Flight 2 boat, but yet he mistakenly called it a Flight 3 (688i) and at the same time called it a Flight 1 (USS Los Angeles).  So basically the sail number and the name that it shows up as in DCS are wrong, just minor things.

I've read all this, but since this boat is made with 12 VLS, it means it's a series 2, no matter what its side number is, if it's fixed, it's good.

RafaleMirage kindly gave me the autorisation to use his models for DCS.I will try to do the job .

Many thanks to him.

The Suffren will be the first one.

That's really good news, Sushy ! 😜 I really look forward to see the Suffren sailing in DCS. 😀 That's very exciting because we can see today it is currently moored and statically  protecting the Navy seals training school in Saint Mandrier.  Many thanks for your work in this ship area, after your many excellent Rafale liveries and loads. 😋 Very impressive, indeed. 👏

Of course it's a Flight 2 boat, I was just pointing out that the number didn't match.
