Community A-4E Skyhawk Training Missions

Recommended Posts

Hello,

i’ve completed the 5th mission for this series, covering a VFR landing at a shore Airbase. You can check it out on the first post of this thread. You will have to download the file again in order to get this additional mission.

Please note that this last mission requires the use of the VPC Airbase Objects Mod, as I can't really stand landing at a bare airbase. I'm sure many of you already have this Mod, but if not, then you can download an OvGME-ready version, compatible with DCS 2.5.6, from this link:

Best regards,

Hello, I’ve just uploaded a renamed version of these missions, please if you have the time try them out. They do work on my english version of DCS, but can’t test them on foreign versions.

Hi, I've downloaded the 5 missions tonight and will check them out in the next couple of days. Thanks for the 5th mission.

Hello,

Today I added another mission to this set:

M10 - Air/Ground gunnery:

This is the first Weapons training mission on this Series, and it shows how to use both the built-in guns and the external Gun Pods of the Skyhawk. This mission provides two aircraft slots: one where you start in-flight near the Weapons Range, and another where you start on the nearby airbase of Anapa. For the sake of variety, this mission has friendly air traffic as background, so be careful when taxing and landing.

Check a walktrough video on the first post

Best regards,

Eduardo

Hi,

Today I added yet another mission to this set:

M11 - Air/Ground rocket attacks:

With this mission we move on to employ Rockets on Air-Ground attacks. Like with M10, this mission provides two aircraft slots: one where you start in-flight near the Weapons Range, and another where you start on the nearby airbase of Anapa. For the sake of variety, this mission has friendly air traffic as background, so be careful when taxing and landing.

Check a walktrough video on the first post

The next mission will be similar, but for dropping Iron Bombs rather than firing Rockets. I really love @Ciribob 's Script, as it really helps one to improve our accuracy.

Best regards,

Eduardo

I finally got around to trying some of these training missions tonight and all I can say is, WOW! Really nice job, they're fantastic! Thank you so much. These really are the perfect training accompaniment to such an incredible mod.

Thanks a lot for your kind words, it makes editing these missions so much more worthwhile

Today I added a short little mission to this set. I was interested on learning about Emergency procedures and found that the A-4E mod is still lacking a bit on this regard, but I tried my best to learn at least how to re-start the engine on the air:

I updated the file, so you will have to re-download it anew in order to update the ones on your PC.

Best regards,

Eduardo

Hello,

Today I added a mission to practice dive bombing with good old fashioned iron bombs. At first, I really sucked at this, as my bombs fell all over the place except inside the target circle .. but the practice that I got while debugin the mission improved my markmanship a lot, as you can see on the walktrough video:

I don't want you to become bored with my Weapons Range, so the next mission on this series will be one on the employment of countermeasures and the primitive ECM devices of the Skyhawk  ... see you then.

Best regards,

Eduardo

That's a hard mission, at least for me, as I struggle to maintain a constant 600 feet above the sea, but I practiced it so many times while debuging that mission, that now I can trap almost 100% of the time, if not on the first try, for sure on the second one after a bolter

Hello all,

Today I added yet another mission to this set:

M15 - RWR and Counter-measures employment:

On this mission I attempt to show the employment of the defensive systems of the Skyhawk, while inspecting a SAM-2 defended zone. For the sake of variety, this mission has friendly air traffic as background, so be careful when taxing and landing.

Check a walktrough video on the first post

The next mission will be about the use of the Shrike anti-radar missile.

Best regards,

Eduardo

Above you stated:  " VPC Airfield Objects by @voc. This Mod was rendered incompatible after version 2.5.5 of DCS, but I found that disabling its lighting effects allowed its use again"

How do you do that?

Your shore landing training mission will not load.  It must be the VPC mod which I had installed with the fix.  Could you remake the mission with the VPC mod?

I just tried the mission, and on my PC the VPC mod (and the mission) load just fine:

So, most likely you have an obsolete version of the VPC Mod on your DCS.

Anyway, I just edited a version of this mission without using the VPC Mod, you can download it from this link:

Thanks for the new mission.  I think I have the latest version of the fix for the mod but I will check later.

BTW, on the navigation mission, how do you know that you are at 5 degrees down and 15 to the right.  I have tried it several times and I must not be getting it right as the mission does not move on.

sorry, but the last time I flew that mission was on October 2020 and so I dont remember its details, I just used the ADI ball to judge my pitch and bank .. check the video walkthrough to see how I flew it:

I reloaded the fix for VPC and of course everything worked.  Not sure what happened before.  I am finding that the Sky Hawk is becoming my favorite community mod.

Anyone know if these are working with the 2.0 version of the A-4 mod?

from the 1st post:

Please note that these missions were edited for the Skyhawk v1.4 and are not tested on the current v2.0 Beta. Also, they were edited for DCS 2.5.6 and will probably have issues if flown under DCS 2.7

Ah yes, thank you.  Soooo .... might we expect an updated set of these incredibly well-done training missions to be available some time soon?  Pleeeeease?  😀

I actually started to update them sometime ago, intending to relocate them to the Marianas Map, but along the way I became engaged with learning the Hind and the Mosquito, and that made me lost a bit of motivation.  I’m sure that I will eventually return to this project, but it wont be soon … sorry.

Edit: Here is a walkthrough of one of the missions that I converted, it is not a straight conversion, I actually redid the mission from scratch to take advantage of DCS 2.7 and the new features of the A-4E 2.0
