Anyone planning on getting the 3090 for VR?

" they are aware of" being the important part of this. Not dissing you for sharing. It is interesting. Probably confirms the idea that there will be no Ti cards this year.

 

(But it could also be some sneaky work smithing / dis-information... for example the in between card might not be a 3080 Ti, it might be a 3085 for example!)

Marginal gain? Although we haven't seen reviews in-game yet, I'm not sure about 'marginal' gain. On paper, it looks pretty significant to me. However, the must-buy aspect of the 3090 for me, is the 24Gb VRAM. 10Gb on the 3080, just isn't enough. DCS already maxes out my 11Gb 2080Ti, so it has to be the 3090 for me.

 

 

What if it's like refried beans? It tastes just as good fried as opposed to refried and we've been wasting our time? Tribute to: Mitch Hedberg! :)

Recent AMD leak showed 26.2 TFLOPS for the high end big NAVI, FYI. RTX 3090 supposedly boasts 35.58 TFLOPS in comparison.

I wondered about this as well, so i reduced my resolution in Steam , the vram utilisation went down , so i dont think that it just takes what it can ...

With more VRAM, even in the lower end version. Suddenly the NVIDIA 3070 and 3080 doesn’t seem as appealing to me with the puny amount of VRAM compared to AMD’s offering. Nothing will beat the 3090, but you definitely will pay for that performance.

As long as the 3080 performs better I dont care that it has 1gb less than my current card. I guess we will just have to wait and see but I am guessing that with less ram, it will still perform better. Possibly even better still with more ram but better is better.

As more information becomes available on the real-world gaming benchmarks, the 3080 is more like a 20-25% gain over the 2080 Ti than a 40% gain, particularly in games using older DirectX APIs like DirectX 11.

 

The 3090's size, power consumption (and more important, resulting heat generation), and cost effectiveness are making me less interested in buying it.

 

So, I am starting to think I should wait for a 3080 refresh with more RAM and I definitely don't want to actually buy a gpu until I see benchmarks between the 3080/3090 versus AMDs new card.

 

It also seems likely the demand is going to far exceed the supply, so the MSRP announcements are meaningless if the prices get inflated.

 

I am waiting to see benchmarks of AMDs new cpus as well. Perhaps I will focus on building a new PC before committing to a new gpu since any decent gpu will be bottlenecked by my current rig. If AMDs new CPUs paired with PCIE 4 motherboards hit the right price/performance mark, that is where I am hoping to go.

 

I need to see all the real-world pertinent data before I start pulling the trigger on a gpu or new PC. I would love it if I could catch some DCS users' reviews before spending any money, too.

I think I will wait if DirectStorage API will make any impact, but now I am getting the idea that it's not that simple and it's not obvious that DirectStorage will get on Vulkan.

I do want to avoid upgrade from RTX 2070 if I will just get free upgrade.

The 3080 is faster than 1080ti in shadow of tomb raider by 53fps on same system. With dlss and rtx off. 1080ti runs at 96fps vs 3080 at 149Fps this is 1440p res. Roughly 1.4x increase in performance. This is based on recent leaks.

Are you sure you meant to say 1080ti and not 2080ti, otherwise that is not that impressive?

U-tubers ,with both synthetic and game benchmarks . HR gaming and IVadim channels . Some others are reporting ~ 30% this morning in some games , mainly fps .

Of course all this means little yet for DCS and VR in a G2 , but even the conservative relative figures aren't bad for 2/3 the 2080ti price .

I'm still agonizing about Vram though...

The 3080 doesn't seem like it's much of an upgrade over the 2080ti at 4k.

18% with DX12/DLSS/4k (Shadow of the Tomb Raider)

 

We'll see what things look like for the 3090 in a week and a half but I wouldn't hold my breath.

If they are right, and we have no way of really knowing, then the 2160 numbers are closest for the Reverb... I think the challenge is that dcs is... Unique in its performance... Even if you were to look at another dx11 game... I'm not sure it translates well
