RAZBAM's English Electric Lightning - A request

Considering how early in development this project is I wanted to make this thread now.

Its reasonably clear from the 3D models we've seen that it most likely will be a Lightning F.6 as the F.2A had 4 ADEN cannons and the F.3 dropped the ADEN cannons all together.

But what if we could have a little extra? Now work has been made at 3D scanning a Lightning cockpit recently meaning perhaps this ship has sailed but I'd really like to see the lightning we get be a Saudi Arabian F.53 module from RAZBAM.

The reason for this is its essentially just a Lightning F.6 with an option of Bombs and rocket pods to give it some extra features and flexibility. It means it still fits into the Falklands map because it still has the Redtops and ADENs and after all with a British skin you won't know the difference but then it means it also fits into the Persian Gulf as well.

the changes were "...an additional pair of hard points under the outer wing. These hard points could be fitted with pylons for air-to-ground weaponry, including two 1,000 lb (450 kg) bombs or four SNEB rocket pods each carrying 18 68 mm rockets. A gun pack carrying two ADEN cannons and 120 rounds each could replace the forward part of the ventral fuel tank."

Visually the same and the systems are the same but it means we could get a little more bang for our buck.

Just some food for thought and I am curious what people's thoughts are on this concept and the Lightning coming to DCS as a whole.

Here is an image of a F.53 with her Drop tanks, Bombs and Rocket pack bellow:

You have to be british to be mad enough to build an overwing pod that's part fueltank and part rocketpod! Love the aircraft, though.

That's the Matra JL-100 which is French and IIRC those have been on Mirages as well back in the day. Anyway with 2 of those (I think I've seen images with those on a dual rack as well, so it would be 4) plus 4 of the more common Matra 155 pod and those Microcells (the British used them only on F.1 and F.1A IIRC) that thing would be a flying rocket launcher, and a very fast one, at least after dumping the pods. Just what I need dealwithit.png

I'd love to see the F.53 - more options and especially more versatility.

Damnit! Always thought they were a British invention :D

Either way, absolute madlads to think of it, build it and fire it.

Clustermunitions is just another way of saying that you don't like someone.

I used to like people, then people ruined that for me.

Hi .

Just a quick one. The plan is to have the gun and fuel packs as options on this beast.

Will have a look at the option of the F53 and come back to you.

If you have additional info regarding the differences can you kindly om me?

Is there a chance slight creative liberties will be taken to implement SRAAM for the Lightning F.6? Considering weapons such as the BK90 and RN-24 exist for other DCS modules.

How are the BK-90 and the RN-24 "slight creative liberties" ?

They were never carried by the aircraft that have them. That said, nukes like RN-24 are an easter egg and BK-90 is likely be technically compatible with the Viggen. It's just a funny-shaped CBU, the Greeks use them on their F-4Es, so it can presumably be fitted on anything that can carry regular bombs.

The BK-90 setup is described on the real AJS-37 manual and there is this :

And this :

And the MiG-21 can indeed carry nuclear bombs, mabye not the Bis, but the airframe can.

Not saying anything on the lighting here :).

Well, they've been making progress on that front, latest update had supposedly solved several of the Harrier's issues (haven't checked myself yet). That said, I'm not planning on buying the Lightning until it has a campaign by Baltic Dragon. :) I'll probably give in then, I'm a sucker for a good SP campaign.

I'm afraid this bird is a long ways off, as the RAZBAM seems to lack the coders necessary to handle all the modules they've got in the works.

Remember we're currently waiting on:

1. MiG-23

2. F-15E

3. EE Lightning

Whilst the Harrier & Mirage still need tuning.

5. All the other announced projects (AV-8B+, OV-10, AMX etc.)

Fixed it for you 😄

4. A-29
5. Sea Harrier FRS1
6. IA-58
7. Mirage 3
8. Mirage 2000-5
9. AMX
10. AV/8B+
11. Canberra ("AI first, full module later" supposedly, but it still requires some coding)
12. F-100 (early work starting, ie they showed their usual 3d model in Discord)
13. A-4 (supposedly planned, not even a 3d scan showed yet but it gets brought up on occasion)
14. There's old posts "announcing" the F-105 and F-102 as well I believe

Whilst the Farmer, Harrier & Mirage still need tuning.

Clarified that fix for ya 😛 honestly, just assume RB have not announced nor planned any module beyond the Mirage, Harrier and Farmer until those things actually show up in the DCS shop. Before that moment, it's all PR and no substance. They have "announced" far, FAR more modules than ED themselves while their company is a tiny fraction of ED's size.
