Glide Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Nothing is more fun that nursing a wounded jet back to base. I wish for less complete destruction of my plane and pilot and more partial damage modeling. I see the AI's limping home all the time. I have yet to land a wounded jet.
razo+r Posted September 13, 2020 Posted September 13, 2020 Well, don't compare yourself with AI, unless you manage to maintain level flight with one wing completely missing or even no engines left at all. But fear not, a new damage model is on the way.
Northstar98 Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 (edited) Presumably it'll be improved with the new damage model, though I'm not sure precisely what improvements the new damage model will implement. ED Team BIGNEWY Posted September 15, 2020 ED Team Posted September 15, 2020 Hi we have started with WWII birds first, eventually all aircraft and AI are planned for improvement. I can not put a timeline on this yet as it is a lot of work. thank you Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Fri13 Posted September 15, 2020 Posted September 15, 2020 I can not put a timeline on this yet as it is a lot of work. Just keep updating the progress in the future and all is cool and nice. All these major features that gets people hyped up, dreaming about the future and all possibilities should be understood be close to hearts. It is very fascinating to read the reports and explanations like was given about the new damage modeling, how it was required to tweak AI aiming not to shoot directly at the pilot etc etc. As it is major part of this virtual aviation hobby as well know insights about the simulator how it works, and especially when improvements are done to get closer to realism. The world of engineering is wonderful place, but when politics gets better part of it, major catastrophes can happen. & Many reader forgets that these forums doesn't just have gamers in their ranks, but as well all kind hobbyists and enthusiasts who really love to know all kind insightful stuff. Worrazen Posted September 18, 2020 Posted September 18, 2020 (edited) Nothing is more fun that nursing a wounded jet back to base. I wish for less complete destruction of my plane and pilot and more partial damage modeling. I see the AI's limping home all the time. I have yet to land a wounded jet. Yeah, that's my favourite cup of tea as well, this will go so well along with the "dynamic campagin" with long haul sessions when repairing/refueling/rearming will have a more significant impact on gameplay and contribution to the outcome. Saving your jet will be in one's interest over the easy way of ejecting and respawning. Not to mention the whole SAR thing. SAR (search-and-rescue) is obviously a non-combat thing but the one we mean is the military-specific side of it where it's about evac of friendly troops and ejected pilots, including behind enemy lines so it has IMO quite a military side to it which would be justified, because if you want to evac an important pilot behind enemy lines you may need to temporairly reposition and take off other duties your military troops, scouts, escorts, move ground units to a hill for observation, and quite a bit of work if the area is populated by enemy forces before that actual SAR helicopter can attempt to go in for rescue. But signal-comms simulation overhaul needs to happen first before SAR is worthwhile IMO or at the same time. So those radio transmission by the ejected pilot, by friendly forces, by last known position on primary radar / secondary radar / (visible on F-10 map by appropriate player role) coordination between ATC's who had info on that downed plane, coordination between AWACS, audio clips and voices have to be made, SAR-specific AI has to be created and it's "Dynamic Campaing" implementation, pilot transportable in aircraft, animations, airlift (zip line hooking, etc) ... so it's a bit of work and I wouldn't mind it if it's a paid module in some fashion, given that dynamic campaign is I think a "core" and is free. So yeah I would buy a SAR module, even if it only means to fund some of the core tech behind it that could be shared and benefit other areas, like the signal-comms stuff. The management of the IADS network that is being considered by a third party for a paid module also shares the signal-comms stuff so I'm all for that module or whatever compromise they come up with (the ongoing community discussion whether it should be part of CA or just free core update, or some semi-paid thing). Just don't get me wrong, I don't mean simulation as in some crazy ray-tracing super-realistic stuff, just the next doable and practical step higher. Fri13 Posted September 21, 2020 Posted September 21, 2020 (visible on F-10 map by appropriate player role) I have come to opinion that F10 map should "go away" and come back in a another form. For a ATC purposes there is no purpose to have it. For a GCI, again not to have it there. For a pilot... Again, kneeboard or a digital moving map and be there. For a ground units, a foldable "paper map" would be needed that has no digitalization. So it is just a map that needs to be drawn on with marker if wanted to be used such way. The "all seeing/100% accurate" digital map is just wrong in so many ways. The F10 map should be used only in a mission editor, and then in some form basis for a digital moving maps in vehicles or aircrafts and some terminals. But otherwise it should be more about a radar screen with the area lines, borders and such, and you are just staring such. In Mi-24 it should be a map cardboards inserted in the analog moving map box. If you get shot down, you need to use your emergency beacon and radio to get a SAR helicopter at your location. If you have aircraft systems damaged, you really are forced to use all the emergency procedures methods to fly the thing back to base or safety. So backup compass, idea about the distances by the speed or time, try to just limp back to somewhere without having a "magical F10 map" to open up. All small damage details from GPS antennas, receivers, computer boxes and such would matter a lot. INS drifting, damage etc. The F10 map as is, could be moved to "game" mode so the player can just open map and see accurate map and even various difficulty levels for units symbols and all. While on "Sim" side it would be a paper map, compass, maybe a GPS receiver etc. It would open up the reasons for other systems damage modeling too, from IFF to radios and as well combat scenarios where one will attack the airfield navigation structure and elements, have the mobile ground units with navigation equipment and all. The final thing really would be that at night the great pilot would be navigating back to home by the stars... ( have heard that it is possible in the DCS... i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
lt_d4n Posted September 22, 2020 Posted September 22, 2020 It would be good to modernize the graphics engine, damage model among other things, instead of selling so many incomplete modules and leaving them undeveloped for months
