What is the DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer update?

This is a paid update to the existing DCS: A-10C Warthog to add new systems, features and fixes to usher in another 10 years of the most advanced simulation of the A-10C on the market.

How much will it be?

The full version of A-10C II will be $79.99 USD and the upgrade price will be just $9.99 USD for a limited time. After 1 month from release of the A-10C II, the upgrade price will increase to $19.99 USD.

I already own the DCS: A-10C Warthog, do I need to buy this?

No, if you do not want to buy the upgrade, it will not be required. You will already see the benefits of improved cockpit 3D model and textures as well as other fixes to the A-10C. You will not have access to new features and systems that come with the upgrade.

Will A-10C II and the upgrade option be available on Steam?

Yes, we plan for both.

Why do I have to pay for this, shouldn't it be free?

Many of the fixes and updates will be across our entire A-10 family, this can include the upgrade, the original A-10C and in some cases the A-10A. These fixes will be made and added free of charge. The paid version is for weapons and systems that required extra research, development and implementation to add.

What happens to my original A-10C if I buy the upgrade?

It will still be available to use as you remember it today (with addition fixes of course). You will still be able to use all the content and such you had before, you will simply have another module called the A-10C II in the game to use.

What new features will come with the upgrade?

  • AGM-65L Laser Maverick
  • GBU-54 Laser JDAM
  • APKWS
  • Updated, weathered cockpit textures
  • Updated and improved external model
  • Helmet Mounted Cueing System (HMCS)
  • Updated HOTAS commands
  • ARC-210 radio (not at EA release)
  • Updated 3D cockpit to remove TISL panel
  • New mission content
  • Adjusted flight dynamics (available to original A-10C as well)

Will there be an missions for the DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer?

Yes, we will have a mix of new, and updated missions for the the A-10C II.

Will my paid campaigns work with the new module?

This will be up to content creators if they choose to update their campaigns to the new module, other wise they will work as normal.

Why are you doing this, shouldn't you be working on the Hornet, Viper and other core issues?

The DCS: A-10C Warthog is an important module to DCS world, keeping it updated and relevant is very important to us, and to our users. This project is only being worked on by a few devs that were instrumental in the original A-10C, it has not affected any other project or core issues being addressed.

Where is my warning horn gone!?!?

From valued feedback of a real life A-10C pilot and huge DCS World fan, we have determined that the horn was never operating as it should. It should only sound during tests, and during activation of the gear handle. All other emergencies are only shown by the Master Caution light, no horn.

What about the missing thrust?

As above, the same valued feedback was given, and we determined that there were no issues with thrust, but issues with when wing stall and buffet was experienced. We have now tuned this, and the A-10C is performing much better than it ever has. These changes should be seen across all A-10s in the game. See the note from Wags here: https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=4489630&postcount=65

DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer - GBU-54 Laser-JDAM

In this DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer video, we’ll look at the GBU-54 laser-JDAM. The GBU-54 is 500-pound class bomb with options for INS/GPS and laser-homing guidance. It can be loaded on all 1760 smart racks.

While INS/GPS allows you to launch-and-leave and the ability to engage through cloud and smoke cover, the laser-guidance provides increased accuracy and the ability to engage moving targets. It’s up to you to determine the best guidance based on the engagement.

DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer - Laser Guided Rockets

In this DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer video, we’ll look at the Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System, or APKWS laser-guided rocket. The APKWS consists of either M151 or M282 2.75-inch rocket mated with a laser guidance kit.

Based on a laser- designation from your targeting pod our an offboard laser-designation source, the APKWS, also referred to as the AGR-20A, can have pinpoint accuracy on targets out to around 5 miles.

The M151 version has a high explosive warhead and the M282 version has a penetrator warhead. Both versions are ideal against unarmored and lightly armored targets. However, the AGR-20A is not designed to defeat tank armor.

Seven APKWS rockets are carried in each LAU-131 rocket pod.

DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer | Helmet Mounted Cueing System (HMCS)

In this final preview video for DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer, we’ll look at the new Helmet Mounted Cueing System, or HMCS. The HMCS consists of several sub-systems, but we’ll focus on the Helmet Mounted Display (HMD) and the Profile Editor in this video.

The HMCS provides excellent situational awareness and the ability to cue weapons and sensors by just looking at the target and setting a designation. Please note though that his is not the same helmet implementation as for the Viper and Hornet systems; it is in many ways far superior in the air-to-ground mode.

Flight Model improvements

Hello all,

We have recently fine tuned the A-10C flight model characteristics and we have taken

this opportunity of presenting Dima Yo-yo’s A-10C Flight Improvements report for your

consideration.

The instantaneous turn rate was tested and improved. It was noticed during this test

that maintaining near-stall AoA was a bit tricky due to buffeting.

We have tuned our buffeting model to match the reference charts and then, the tests

were conducted again in the same conditions. Load factor fluctuations are now gone,

resulting in the ability to maintain near-stall AoA.

Report on A-10C Flight Improvements.

Thank you for your passion and support.

DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer | Maverick Space Stabilize

In the 2.7 update for DCS World, we will introduce space stabilization for the optically guided Maverick versions using the Display Management Switch (DMS).

While holding the DMS switch forward, the Maverick will enter space stabilization mode and allow you to slew the seeker more easily onto a target.

While in space stabilization, the Maverick seeker will stabilize along a heading, but will mover forward at the same speed as the aircraft.

By placing the Maverick seeker crosshair over a target and releasing the DMS switch, the seeker will attempt to acquire a tracking lock on the target.

In this DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer video, we’ll discuss the very basics of using the new ARC-210 radio. There is a lot of detail in this radio, particularly the menu system, but you’ll read about this in the manual. For this video, we just want to go over the basics to get you started.

The ARC-210 supports both UFH, VHF, and satellite communications, but support for satellite communications will come later along with other aircraft satellite radio communications. The control head is located on the left console, and it replaces one of the two VHF radio control heads. This leaves on VHF, one UHF, and one ARC-210 control head.

Let’s look at the most common functions that you’ll use on the control head.

In the bottom right corner of the control head is the Frequency Mode dial.

The Preset, or PRST, position that allows you to select a preset with its assigned frequency. On the display, the selected Preset channel is shown in the top right corner and the assigned frequency to that Preset is centered in the bottom of the display. Above the frequency is the AM or FM modulation indication.

The Manual, or MAN, position that allows you to manually enter a frequency using the five Frequency Selector Knobs. Also, to the left of the display are three line select buttons. If you press the top button, it will select the previously selected frequency.

The last two positions allow you to tune the radio to either the 243 MHz or 121.5 MHz guard channels.

To the left is the Preset Channel dial. If the Frequency Mode dial is set to Preset, rotating this dial allows you to cycle through the Preset channels.

In the bottom left corner is the Operational Mode dial. This can be set between OFF, Transmit and Receive, Transmit and Receive while doing the same on the two Guard channels, and changing your channel presets. To change the frequencies of your presets, the Frequency Mode Dial must be in the Preset position and the Operational Mode Dial must be in the Change Preset position. You can then use the Frequency Selector Dials to change the frequency of the active Preset channel.

Along the left side at the bottom are your display brightness controls.
On the right side is the squelch switch and the offset button. Pressing the offset button offsets the current frequency to a new frequency, generally in 5 or 8.33 kHz steps.

Last is the Menu button that is a rabbit hole of pages that you can explore but not necessary for normal operations. We’ll detail these in the manual.

Up on the HUD in the top left corner is the ARC-210 indication. V1 is the installed radio. This will either display the frequency when in Manual mode or the channel when in Preset mode. If you wish to change the frequency, using the Up-Front Controller, or UFC, type in the desired frequency and you’ll see it on the HUD scratchpad at the bottom of the HUD. Once entered, press the COM 1 button. To change the Preset, it’s just as easy. Select Preset mode, type in the Preset channel number on the UFC, and then press the COM 1 button.

You can also view all your Preset channels with their assigned frequencies on the new COMM page.  Upon selecting COMM, then select ARC210 Presets. You now have all the Preset channels listed and by pressing the NEXT button you can view the second page.

To change a Preset frequency assignment, use the up and down arrow buttons to select the desired Preset channel row and you can then set a frequency, name, and AM or FM. For example: change the frequency by typing in a new frequency on the UFC and then pressing the FREQ button. In the same manner, type in a new name on the UFC and then press the NAME button. To switch the Present channel between AM and FM, just press the MOD, for modulation, button.

I hope this video was helpful for understanding the basic operations of this new radio for the A-10C.
