Yeah, and the only way I’d consider 1200 was if I was trying to run SLI, but there’s no sense in doing that right now, if ever.

That, and the 1200w is big enough that it blocks the 3.5” drive bays and restricts you to NVME and SSDs only. I wanted one hard drive for backups.

C'mon, you guys getting 3090 at launch day and cheaping out on only 1000W PSUs?

1000w is what I have in my system, a good EVGA Titanium, hoping that will be plenty.

hmm...

From 18 ms frametime to 15 ms.

That's a 15% improvement. Can't say i'm over the moon with that.

What I see (DCS part of the vid) is mostly around 5ms delta which is closer to 30% and at around 3:30 in in the vid there is spikes way over 22ms(26-someting) but the 3090 stays at 14.

Thats around 45% faster, when it is at most needed.

Thank you nvidia!

well yes, but we don't know why... it could be

VRAM, in which case the rumored improved memory 3080 might work as well

CUDA Cores count

or Both

that is required for that performance increase if accurate.

Don't get to enthousiast. I have the 3080 now. Clocked 9900ks on 5.2 GHz. Rtx 3080 clocked on 2070 MHz. Yes, there is Improvement but very less then I expected. My opinion that I Hope that ED ASAP a New game engine introduces for our New game Systems. Very important step for VR. You'll see what I mean if you upgrade your Systems.

Yeah but in most cases folks are still gonna be cpu limited, especially from what I see online. I mean, in general I need to halve my CPU frame time online for it to goto 90 reliably. And I don't see 10ghz anywhere around the corner.

New hotness: I7 9700k 4.8ghz, 32gb ddr4, 2080ti, :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, HP Reverb (formermly CV1)

Old-N-busted: i7 4720HQ ~3.5GHZ, +32GB DDR3 + Nvidia GTX980m (4GB VRAM) :joystick: TM Warthog. TrackIR, Rift CV1 (yes really).

That's the SP vs. MP player issue. With a similar system, I'm not really CPU bound in most the SP missions I play, maybe a DCS Liberation with the unit culling to a high distance or a really busy campaign mission. If I get low over the front lines or similar situation, I will get below reprojection framerates, but only spikes under until I get back up to altitude most the time. Honestly, a lot of my flying during the week with less time available is Instant Action and simple missions to keep specific skills honed. But those simple skills focus flights are sometimes the most satisfying anyway for me. So I average 12ms or under CPU frametimes almost all the time in my flying.

I think it's a combination of the software optimization limitations and also how massive most MP missions are in number of units. I get it that you need that many flights and ground units for a good online squadron mission, but the difference with my limited experience seems to be all about the number of units. I can do some simple MP with just a online wingman and it doesn't bring DCS to it's knees and have pretty much as good as offline CPU frametime. But we load up a massive online mission with dozens of flights on both sides, it's a slide show in VR. I think if I did more online, I'd have to not do VR in it or maybe downgrade back to the Rift S.

Damn it. So it looks like 3090 is must have for DCS after all. With g2 coming and zen 3 just around the corner this fall will be extremely hard on our wallets :)

as a 3090 owner, i don't see very much improvement after all. i spend alot of time tweaking my settings. Iike expected, cpu issues. 4.9ghz 8600k, 32Gb ram at the moment. Rift S user.

some more 0.2 SS, shadows on medium, MSAA 2x. That's it. Don't expect too much. Dubai on PG looks good for the first time. Normandy.. still performance like the previous 2080 rtx, even without terrain shadows slide show.

That's my own experience for now..

FWIW shadows increase CPU load, not GPU. Try flat only or a shadow mod sometime

Seems to fly in the face of anything else we've heard.

What SS rate are you running at?

I guess the Rift S only has a fraction of the pixels to push around compared to the Reverb - 3.6m compared to 9.3m, I think - and the benefits of the 3090 are in high pixel scenarios, e.g. 4K or Reverb at high SS rates.

Also, your 8600 is around 20-25% low compared to 10900K. That also may contribute.

Could all be part of the reason you're not seeing much difference. Who knows?

yes i guess so. i plan to upgrade the 8600k soon when the G2 arrives. Not sure if 9900k will be okay instead of 10900k? Any advice related to dcs? I run ingame PD at 1.0 and the 1.5 SS in Oculus Debug Tool.

I'm gonna lower the shadows to flat later. Terrain shadows always flat btw.

Unless you have money to burn or do something that needs lots of cores, there is no reason for DCS as it works now to go 9900k on LGA1151socket or a 10900k on a LGA1200. The extra cores will not help in DCS! If DCS is the main focus, a 9700k/kf if LGA1151 would be fine, but you would probably be more future proof to go LGA1200 and get a 10700k or even 10600k. Buy CPUs that have the best single core performance. This is why AMD processors are so disappointing in DCS, they have great multicore performance for their price but poor single core and DCS can really only use 1 core well and only partially another 2.
