2080Ti vs RTX 3090 for VR

I am missing the point?

Being able to buy it today was NEVER the point. I am talking about the price you pay in the UK to be delivered whenever the retailer is able to. I am expecting to have mine delivered in the next week.

I'm not saying any more on this.

Oh, so you didn't even receive it yet. Out of curiosity, how long have you been waiting?

I paid $2049 CAD + tax here in Canada for my Zotac 3090, that was 2 days after the official "Launch" date, from a local store where I've spent $30k in the last few years alone on PC/monitors/etc. I got no discount, just the ability to actually purchase one, the 4 other people who were there picking one up paid the same price I did. That's just over 1200 British pounds, 1324 Euros.

I've got pictures of my receipt to prove that if anyone calls me out (pic of receipt is required to register for Zotac's 3 year warranty online).

Confirmed,

Some DCS performance video or reports, expecially about VR performance would be deeply appreciated, i'm planning to buy a 3090 once they will be available again.

BTW enjoy your new beast and i wish you a lot of fun with it.

Hello,

Just received my 3090 this morning ! EVGA FTW3 ULTRA GAMING, I replaced my 2080ti without changing any of my settings.

I'm using HP Reverb G1.

I tried couple of "instant actions" in F18, F16 and UH1, those I use to check FPS and my settings for years :)

Where I was around 50fps with my 2080ti, I'm now @90fps stable with all 3 aircrafts/helo.

I also quickly fire Supercarrier Mission, on the deck I dropped to 80fps

I didn't try yet multi with an "heavy" mission

Sounds promising thanks for the update. And congrats on getting your EVGA card already. I am in the que for the same card but did not request the auto-notify until Oct 1 so I am still in for a bit of a wait I am sure.

I am really looking forward to when I can get my hands on one. Hopefully not too long after I get my Reverb G2.

Alec, I am not being sarcastic but if you look back carefully, DCS fans have been mentioning core code (engine) upgrades for more than four years now. When would you guess that ED is going to release these engine overhauls?

Yes, not within The usual ”14 days” :-)

From the thread about Vulkan API written by NineLine(community manager):

We should also understand that Vulkan is part of a larger update to the Graphics engine, Vulkan alone will not be a magic cure all, but part of the mix to make things better, thanks!

So we need to take actions to be able to enjoy DCS during the time.

I dont think it is too bad though. I guess it is usual for people to use too high settings, getting stutter and then be unhappy.

Maybe Nvidia delayed their 3000 series 8 nm wafers with Samsung to bring a little improved parts in early 2021.

I will wait 2-3 months untill the dust settle down a little (maturity of hardware, drivers, avalability, etc)

AMD is showing stronger than expected though.

The amount of VRAM will definitely make a difference for DCS in VR.

Which is why I will likely stick with 3090FE with 5950x rather than switch to 6800xt.

The 6800xt seems to have quite a bit higher clock frequencies, and ability to push more textures, and more RAM. I think it's worse than the 3080 in RT and it seems to have much lower floating point operations/s. My uninformed guess is that it will be quite a bit faster for DCS while possibly slower for new titles that I don't play... I think I'll drop the 3080 order though it may come any day now.

If I was getting a 3080 I’d consider the Radeons. But I haven’t seen anything other than price difference to make me switch from 3090FE, and price is not enough for me to switch.

i'd be very interested to understand how it performs on an intel chipset , e.g. how much of the perf comes from SAM ? BUt i understand that while under NDA that might be difficult to discuss

I find it interesting that AMD didn’t provide any leak or hint that they would even match or exceed NVIDIA in raw power back when the 30 series was announced. This seems to have caught NVIDIA completely off guard now. On the other hand, they could also have prevented a lot of RTX cards from being sold/scalped.
