HMCS Scorpion 🖤.

Documentary depicting and highlighting the 100th Fighter Squadron during their 2014 deployment to Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. The 100th FS is a unit of the Alabama Air National Guard 187th Fighter Wing located at Montgomery Air National Guard Base, Alabama.

Our Viper will be an F-16CM with the Common Configuration Implementation Program (CCIP) upgrade. We feel this to be the most versatile version of the F-16 with capabilities for SEAD, precision attack, close air support, and of course air-to-air. We will be taking great care though to develop a very accurate simulation of the F-16CM Block 50, roughly M4.2+, operated by the United States Air Force and Air National Guard circa 2007. Although we will include several FMS skins, all functions will be in regard to cited version.

Although I would like to see it, I don't know if it fits with the version ED is developing.

Other key CCIP elements include a Link-16 capability with the Multifunctional Information Distribution System to increase pilot situational awareness and communication among coalition partner aircraft; the Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing System enabling first-look, first-shot capability and high over-the-shoulder engagement with the AIM-9X missile; and dual carriage capability of the High-Speed Anti-Radar Missile Targeting System and Advanced Targeting Pod.

---

Thales has received an initial order to equip U.S. Air National Guard F-16 pilots with Scorpion Helmet Mounted Displays (HMD) as part of a deal that will make the combat-proven system available to NATO forces.

If the USAF equipped some of its F-16 B50 with the HMCS Scorpion in 2008, it would not be bad to see it in DCS.

So how do we get this planned? Can we run a community vote to feel how much of a interest this could have?

The entire scope of the project would have to be advanced to a year where the F-16 received it. A vote won't really change that, since it's more dependent on what documentation ED would be able to legally acquire.

As I understand, it was the Blk 30 F-16s that received the HMIT Scorpion, not the 2007-spec Block 50 that's being modeled in DCS.

JHCMs is different to the SCORPION HELMET. The SCORPION HELMET is more recent 2021 and has a long list of features and capabilities. With a SCORPION you can hit targets in fog and land in thick fog because you can see the runway and targets clearly. There is no wires on the SCORPION HELMET. The visor has AUTO-TINT and it is adjusted with a wheel on the side of the helmet. An F-16's canopy tint can also be adjusted, there is something that adjusts it that is similar.

There are a couple of reasons for that...

A.) Money

B.) Mission

A.) The JHMCS does everything necessary for the vipers mission. Spending money on "new and shiny" needs to be kept in check...switching to a different system requires aircraft testing And certification. ($$$) aircrew training ($$$) maintenance ($$$)

B.) The Scorpion system is unnecessary fluff for the F-16 mission. That's why they weren't adopted.

The SCORPION HELMET is in fact manufactured for free. They can also use it to fly DCS although the graphics in the helmet are upgraded and more life like it would be better than VR. It has a lot of features which make it more capable in IFR conditions than any other system. Each HELMET is CUSTOM made for the Pilot. No one else can fit them except the Pilot.

The Helmet may be manufactured for free...(NBot sure what you mean by this) but the testing required to certify it for use with a specific aircraft...for a specific mission costs money. Also, Aircrews must train and maintain proficiency with them along with many many other things. There are LOTS of good ideas out there that would be great to implement but in most cases the overhead / costs outweighs the tangible benefits.
