[CORRECT AS IS]HUD is too washed out

On the UFC the INTEN (intensity) rocker will adjust the HUD.

Also on the armament panel there is a toggle for Day (green) and Night (yellow) HUD colors.

For the helmet display DMS Up/Down when the helmet is selected (Coolie hat up twice) will adjust the brightness level.

I do find the HUD difficult to see. Is there any way of altering the depth of shade or even the colour altogether like with the VRS F18? Any advice appreciated.

Thanks

Neil.

Have you tried using the INTEN rocker switch on the UFC to increase the brightness? If so, or if it's already in the brightest setting, have you tried flipping the HUD to the night setting (located on the armament panel), which changes the HUD to an orange display?

See this thread - a member seems to give location of a file that you might be interested in, if above doesn't help you....

I have looked at that file, but it is not like the F18 that I could figure out. Do you know what lines are needed to edit?

thanks

I couldn't figure it out either. It's different than the Viper that I made the HUD yellow. I sent a PM to the member who helped me turn the Viper HUD yellow but he hasn't got back to me yet.

I probably can't help unless you want it yellow. I find yellow a good all around color. I can fly right at the sun and I can still read the HUD.

What numbers did you use for the yellow?

I find turquoise/aqua shades to be the best color for the HUD. BMS has a few more colors to cycle through and I always settle on this one.

Always backup the original file first, then change this line (number 383) in file: \Mods\aircraft\A-10C_2\Cockpit\Scripts\HUD\Indicator\HUD_init.lua

day_color = {0, 255/255, 255/255, 255/255}

This gives you HUD in 0, 255, 255 RGB color. 4th number must always remain 255/255.

Thanks for the location of the file. I was looking in the wrong place. Nice color but I would prefer a little darker color for the HUD. Do you have a suggestion to make it darker?

Are you guys aware you can go negative values on those? Try this value on Hud_init.lua

day_color = {-0.22, 0, -0.36, 1}

If you're editing the materials.lua, you have to multiply the values above by 255 as materials.lua I think is in 0-255 scale.

I was trying out different combination of numbers and do not understand why the numbers are like 255/255 instead of just 255? Why 255 twice?

I like your color HUD. If I wanted to go to all black, what numbers should I use?

0, 0, 0, 1 for all black.

materials.lua uses 0-255 scale because all colors in games are 255 shades. But HUD_Init.lua uses 0-1 scale so you have to put them in below format or use decimal numbers. It's not 255 twice but 255 divided by 255 which is 1.

255/255 = 1

0/255 = 0

Yes it is unfortunate that ED considers this [CORRECT AS IS] as this obviously is blending mode issue and other modules don't have this issue. A10 is using something similar to Overlay blending mode in Photoshop. So it gets washed away against white background regardless of opacity and INTEN.

I was looking for where to change the blending mode but no luck yet. Above workaround is all I came up with so far.

I created a MOD to change the color from green to black for day and brownish Orange for night. Works perfectly for me. Drop me a direct message and I'll send you a copy. Works with JSGME and passes integrity check.

Why don’t you just attach it?

For some reason, your black is very washed out so I am going back to your green. Oh well.
