i5-10600k vs i7-10700k for DCS?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if the i7-10700k will offer much a performance improvement over the i5-10600k in DCS? It doesn't seem that much better In other games from what I've seen but considering DCS is CPU limited, I'm wondering if the i7 will be enough of a boost to warrant the extra £100 for it compared to the i5. Anyone know?

I went with a 10700k so that I could push the OC a little higher without too much effort - I wanted to basically guarantee that I could have an easy 5.1/5.2 GHz without worrying about the silicon lottery. There was a sale and the price difference was less than $80 USD. Maybe some people wouldn’t do that for a few hundred MHz but DCS will benefit from the extra CPU speed and I haven’t regretted the purchase.

Edit: was coming from a 6700k and noticed a big difference in DCS with the upgrade.

Over four years isn't the price difference negligible?

Depends, you could get a 10600K that's faster depends on random chance and/or if you are willing to pay for a binned chip. Gamer's Nexus has gotten really good results overclocking 10600Ks.

DCS is CPU limited on a single core. It doesn't scale from 6 to 8 cores. I can run it on my 9900K with 5 cores disabled, 3 cores on, and hyperthreading off.

AMD is announcing new CPU's (higher frequency supposedly) tomorrow and they should be available in two weeks. It might be worth waiting for those even if you insist on buying Intel as it might force them to bring their prices down.

i386DX40@42 MHz w/i387 CP, 4 MB RAM (8*512 kB), Trident 8900C 1 MB w/16-bit RAMDAC ISA, Quantum 340 MB UDMA33, SB 16, DOS 6.22 w/QEMM + Win3.11CE, Quickshot 1btn 2axis, Numpad as hat. 2 FPH on a good day, 1 FPH avg.

DISCLAIMER: My posts are still absolutely useless. Just finding excuses not to learn the F-14 (HB's Swansong?).

And yes, here it is - 5900X beats 10900.

Will be AMD for me finally. Best single core performance.
