Hello folks,

I decided I would try to put together a mini-campaign for the updated A-10C-2 and the Nevada map. Here is the first mission. Its a "navigation" mission but it should present some unique challenges and a satisfying workload. Would really appreciate some feedback to help me going forward. Could you do it? was it hard? easy? Did the real voice-overs add much to your enjoyment/immersion? Are they worth continuing with? Any bugs or gripes, comments or suggestions? Please feel free to criticize... I am fully aware the "voice actor" :music_whistling:... has left some room for improvement.

These missions will be designed to suit DCS A-10C veterans that are returning to the Hog after a long lay-off (like myself) or anyone that has taken the time to really learn and get to grips with the Hog and wants to test or refresh their skills in the aircraft. The missions will try to combine challenge type gameplay tied together by a completely fictional story, believable only if you squint your eyes really hard like you do when you watch Top Gun. Have fun and please remember to leave feedback so I can improve the next ones! :)

NEVADA PROVING GROUNDS

Situation:

Extended conflicts over the past decades, particularly in the Middle East, have put the USAF budget under tremendous strain. In an effort to continue the funding of 5th and 6th generation advanced fighter aircraft projects, the tough decision has been made to downsize the United States' A-10C inventory. The U.S has therefore offered it's NATO partners the opportunity to purchase a number of the legendary Close Air Support (CAS) platforms from its fleet.

There has been a signal of interest from “across the pond” in Great Britain. To this end, a detachment of four experienced RAF pilots were sent across the Atlantic and were enrolled in a 6-month type conversion program designed to take them from zero to hero in the Hog. Having recently completed the training program, they now find themselves stationed at Nellis Airforce Base, Nevada. They are to take part in a week-long tactical test and evaluation period (TTEP). Each mission will be designed to test a different aspect of the A-10C's suitability and performance as a CAS platform with the RAF.

You will take the role of one of the lucky four. TTEP sorties will be under close control of RAF C&C, call-sign Magic.

PROVING GROUNDS HOP 1: Adv Navigation

It's Nellis, but probably not like you've seen it before. Sin city is socked in with heavy rain and fog, with the cloud base barely at minimums. Most flights will remain grounded until the weather clears, however our detachment will be making full use of the opportunity to evaluate the Hog's all-weather capability. Above the cloud layer, visibility is good and the air is stable, so we'll also make use of the Mount Charleston Low Level Route to test performance of the Hog in high mountainous regions.

The sortie will be divided into three stages that must be completed in full to achieve a pass. See breifing slides and notes below for details.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

BREIFING NOTES

Stage A: TACAN navigation to the Low Level Route.

-Three TACAN navigation points (NAV 1-3) must be flown in order as instructed by Magic.

-You must arrive at each point within 200ft of assigned altitude.

-You must fly within the cloud layer until you reach NAV 2. If you break through the cloud layer (4700ft MSL) before this point you will bust the ride.

-You will be flying low. Do not fly too far off course or you may become a floor morte statistic.

-Be particularly aware of the ridge-line approximately a mile and a half to the West of NAV2. When cleared to break the cloud layer, do so promptly and on a safe course, as instructed by Magic.

Stage B: Mount Charleston Low Level Route

-Once you pass NAV3 you will be cleared to GATE ECHO (Steerpoint 1 in your CDU). Arrive at the assigned altitude (+- 200ft).

-Descend to 500ft AGL or below when passing ROUTE START and follow pre-planned steer points until ROUTE END.

-Once you pass ROUTE END you will be cleared to checkout at GATE FOXTROT. Arrive at the assigned altitude (+-200ft).

-Steerpoints along the route have no altitude requirement, however at any point along the route if your altitude exceeds 1000ft AGL, you will fail the ride.

-This route includes 2 notable ridge crosses, so maintain high energy state and execute proper ridge crossing technique to ensure you do not balloon or run out of knots over the top.

Stage C: TACAN navigation to Nellis and Instrument Landing

-Fly the return route (NAV 4-5) to Nellis as instructed by Magic.

-Expect an ILS approach, runway 21L.

-Arrive at NAV points at assigned altitude (+-200ft).

FLIGHT SCHEDULE

You will each be flying as singletons today. Your callsign is HAWG 1-1. The other hog pilots will be TUSK, BOAR, and PIG flights.

Step time: 17:05:00 LT

Taxi time 17:12:00LT (You will be the second Hog to taxi. Don't miss your assigned slot!)

The other flights will be travelling along similar but not identical routes. Flight push times will be staggered to ensure deconfliction. Use your sensors and data-link to monitor this separation and adjust speed accordingly to maintain appropriate spacing throughout the flight (approx 10nm). Flights will fly stage A and C with a speed of 270kts GS. Stage B will be mil power for the duration of the low level route. You will be second in a line of 4 A-10s flying the route.

You will have a light fuel load today so expect low approach speeds. Be accurate with speed and AOA so that you land after TUSK.

Route details on breifing slides.
