Extremly FPS deviations

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

first, sorry for my broken english. I have problem with performance in DCS. Sometimes I have a smooth FPS (around 100) and sometimes I have a low FPS (around 25-30). The same mission, same location and same settings...some of my friends have the same problem as me. RALT + ENTER (remaximized application) did not resolve this problem for me.

My SPECIFICATIONS:

Intel i9 9900K

32 GB RAM DDR4

RTX 2080S

M.2 disk (I have DCS installed here)

any ideas?

Best regards

Molnija

Sounds to me like that's what we need to explore. What module, what mission, what location, what are you looking at when fps drops and does it go back up when you look away?

Molnija, your log seems alright. I don't see any abnormal error. But even though you have 32GB of RAM, you might want to use a bigger pagefile (right now, you have a 4 GB pagefile). However, this has proably nothing to do with your FPS drops.

I agree with Taz: if you all had the same FPS drops, this is something to do with the mission. For instance, FPS heavily drop during sunset for a few minutes. Some big Syria cities also make FPS drop. Not to mention missions populated with more than a thousand ground units.

Guys, thank you for helping me... I have my own training mission on DCS MiG-19P on Kaukaz map, and there is problem with FPS drops.I have 135 all object on the map, it is no a lot. But this problem have independently from map and mission. FPS drops after loading mission, after loading i have 25 - 30 FPS (sometimes). If this problem occurs so i must restart DCS...after restart DCS i have good FPS (100). This problem occurs every 2 - 3 fly...it is restrictive. I have this problem around 2 month.

Maybe reinstall DCS? But I don't really want to do it, because i have a lot modules...

Apologized for my english... I'm sorry

Okay, that doesn't sound like what you initially said. This sounds more like you're running out of something. Or your DCS is recompiling instead of using shader cache. You can try deleting fxo and metashaders2. Check to make sure you have enough disc space and big enough swap file is on your fastest drive.

And that your Saved Games folder is also on your fastest drive.

Thank you. My DCS is installed on 450GB M.2 disk...i have installed only DCS and Windows 10 and I have second 2TB HDD on photos and other private documents. On M.2 is 250 free GB. Ok I will try to delete FXO, and metashaders2, please can me tell exact name this file and location where I can found it?

Hmm i see my processor CPU is know on 29% usage...it is a lot on i9 9900K whithout any running program (see attachment).

best regards

I see your Windows 10 is up to date, which means you might have "Hardware accelerated gpu scheduling" turned on. Try turning that off, please.

Don't use any NAS to store any part of the game (even the Saved Games part).

Don't use any HDD to store any part of the game either (even the Saved Games part). You want DCS to run on an SSD.

What is your antivirus? MBAM, BitDefender and some others are known to cause issues with DCS.

Also, check your NVIDIA settings, and try these:

FXAA = disabled

AA fgamma correction = disabled

AA mode = controlled by the game

AA transparency = disabled

MFAA = disabled

Power management mode = Maximum performance

Vertical sync = Fast (don't forget to disable V-sync in game)

Turn your task manager to see what process is taking up your CPU.

And I don't know what that monitoring program is but those programs themselves can take up to 15% of your CPU.

fxo and metashader2 are in your \Saved Games\DCS\

Just delete the folders. Do that everytime DCS updates.

DCS will take longer to start first time you delete those. It is normal.

And again, you have to make sure Saved Games is also on your M2.

Power management mode = Maximum performance

Do you mean this (see attachment)? I have curent default set "Vyvážený výkon = balanced performance"...i must set last option "Vysoký výkon" - "High performance"???

This is also a good idea, but I was talking about the NVIDIA setting: https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answ...um-performance

Next, i deleted FXO and Metashaders2. Curently I have good FPS, tested 10x runing DCS and bug with FPS less not present, looks it resolved! Last question, guys, please can my help with game setting? I need good quality (excelent graphic), hardware i have good (i9 9900K, 32GB DDR4, RTX2080S, M2 <- here is DCS installed).

This is my current setting (see attachment).

Excellent news. :)

Set "Global cockpit illumination" ON. This option is FPS greedy but it's worth it. Big plus for immersion.

Your other settings are good for quality graphics.

Afterwards, if you're not satisfied with your FPS, set "Terrain object shadows" to "Flat". No big difference with "Default", but it saves a few FPS.

MSAA is also greedy. If you want even more FPS, set it to "x2" if it's OK for you.
