Using TrackIR with large screen TV's or projector

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

As someone who has recently become a fan of flight simulators in particular DCS World, I have recently purchased TrackIR however stumbled across an issue regarding where to mount the camera which many others have faced when using a large TV or projector.

I found a potential solution through the purchasing of a cheap mobile phone holder from ebay which I modified and attached the camera using velcro straps. I initially used the clamp attaching this to a side unit however the distance coupled with the acute angle made this a very glitchy.

I then mounted this centrally on my wheel stand pro ensuring the camera did not obscure my vision and disabling the green lights. To say this has transformed the gaming experience would be an understatement!

I am waiting in excited anticipation for the HP G2 Reverb which will further enhance the flight simulator experience, however this will provide another option if I don't feel like using VR.

I also for whatever reason bought DCS a few years ago but have got around to playing. What an absolutely awesome simulator and didn't realise what I was missing!

Anyway I wanted to share my solution if anyone was either contemplating purchasing TrackIR or having issues where to mount.

Cool solution...but no issues here.

I use a SAMSUNG 75” QLED. I just used some small sticky rubber spacers and mounted the camera on top per usual. It has been there over a year with no issues. Never have to touch it.

Also use VR but sometimes I will go big screen when I need some eye candy.

I would have preferred this option but the screen is 85" and as I have surround speakers, I am seated too far away for the camera to be mounted on top of the TV. You must be sat quite close I guess?

Yes about 5 ft. I have a portable chair with my HOTAS mounted on it. Headset and TIR Proclip is wireless.

Just happened to come across this while trying to solve the same problem.  I'm trying to attach the TrackIR  5 camera to a 4k TV I use as a monitor.  The TV chassis is just too thin for the mount which NaturalPoint supplied, and in any case the foot of the mount ends up on the TV screen which gives me pause.  Your idea looks like a good solution, but I have a couple of questions:  The flexible cell phone holder at Amazon (which looks like yours) has a  minimum grip of about 4" (to big for the camera).  I can't tell from your pix how you managed to afix the camera to the flexible shaft.  Can you give me a clue?   Also, does this device remain stable over time, or does it sag or vibrate?

Anyway, thanks for sharing your valuable post.  And you have a really nice set-up there.  Cheers....
