DCS Super Hercules mod by Anubis

I have kinda a strange question, I was looking into moose which is amazing and was trying to use it with Flight Control's brilliant escort script (with the intention being having a 2 ship of fighters escort player hercs whilst they are running cargo in dangerous areas),

However, whilst this script works (100% unmodified from the creator for every other airframe I have tried it in) the f10 menu never pops up when attempting to use it in the herc.

No errors that are obvious on in the logs. I'll add the mission (all I did was swap the su25 "lead Client plane" for a Hercules).

Any advice would be awesome as I'm not very advanced with moose or Lua.

Thanks in advance.

Hope this is referencing something we do not know officially yet.

I'm hoping the same!

I mean, there have been a few hints that seem to indicate work is being done behind the scenes, and I'd definitely dig a big cargo plane in DCS. A player controllable C-130 would be totally amazing. But as for any announcements in this direction, Anubis seems to work in ED time, aka "two more weeks". 😇

Hi

I'd like to make a suggestion... to put the release date of the version available for download in the 1st page aside the version number...

Helps players to know if they are up-to-date.

Is 6.8.2 still the latest version? Don't know if I have missed an update.

Many thanks to whoever made this Hercules mod, it’s fantastic.

The first aircraft I ever set foot inside was a Herc at an RAF Lyneham (UK) open day when I was 13.  My first ever flight was as an Air Training Corps cadet in a Herc from Lyneham at the age of 14, and I logged around 20 hours of flying in them as a cadet (we lived just a few miles from Lyneham and in those innocent days of the early ‘70s there was little security on the base and in the school holidays we cadets would just walk onto the base in uniform and with our logbooks for ID, go to one of the five Herc squadron HQs and if there was a local flight scheduled they would usually take us).

On one memorable occasion I got on a six-hour contour-flying exercise in the Scottish highlands, ten Hercs in line astern (we were number three) - absolutely amazing, steep turns at a few hundred feet through the valleys.  It was quite something, standing behind the captain’s seat and looking out and upwards at a flock of sheep…

It gave me the flying bug big time - the RAF wouldn’t have me (I was a little short-sighted) so in the end I went the civilian route and became a commercial pilot.  I never flew a Herc for real but did fly a full-motion RAF Herc simulator thanks to an Air Force mate (he said it was so accurate that pilots fly most of the conversion course in it before finishing off with an hour or so in the real aeroplane).

The DCS Herc certainly feels right compared to what I remember of my hour or so in the RAF simulator.  I found it very stable and easy to fly, but I was impressed by the large amount of right rudder needed on take-off.  I also wondered at the time if the RAF simulator was inaccurate in that the landing speed seemed so slow - well under 100 knots empty - but the DCS mod is just the same so it’s obviously right.

I recently got a VR headset - and standing up behind the captain’s seat on a recorded track of a circuit, brought back so many memories - I was a 14-year-old ATC cadet all over again!  Just a bit spooky with no-one in the pilots’ seats!

Just noticed something curious which doesn't seem right with the Hercules...  When you fly trimmed out, straight and level, and increase power the nose falls; conversely, when you reduce power the nose rises.

This is the opposite to what should happen, and seems like a bug to me.  Does anyone know if this is being addressed?

I understand that @Anubis developed this Mod  🙂 Unfortunately, he seems to not be active since 2020 😞

Is that the right Anubis? I'm just asking because none of his posts seems to be be related to the Herc mod. (My Russian is close to zero though.)

It may be due to center of thrust vs center if gravity.  Highwing aircraft with a center of mass below thrust line.  So when you increase thrust its pivoting on that center if mass so the nose goes down.

Decrease thrust.....nose cones up because less thrust pushing the nose down

I take it, with the announcement of the Hercules now going to be launched as a full DCS working model, that like the MB339 will cost, (I don't have a problem with that). Will the Anubis version then become unworkable?

I just took a long time to work through my MODS when the MB339 was discontinued, to find that this why my installation would not work.  A wee warning in advance would be nice, Best of luck with the project, if this is the case

There's a super easy fix for the MB-339, I've had it working since day one some came up it. Anyway, hopefully I can retire it soon when the full blown one is released.

The Anubis free module has had issues before, so don't ever expect free stuff to last forever. The full release is on my shopping list, of course!

As for heads up. Why? Guess it's up to Eagle Dynamics to announce third parties and new projects, and heads ups would kind of ruin that.

Cheers!

The free mod hasn't been updated in a year. I'm positively surprised it's still working. 🙂

I wouldn't expect the mod to get any updates, so if it gets broken with a DCS update, we'll probably have to stick with the last good DCS version, or lose the mod.

(Just to be totally clear, I have no insight whatsoever; that's just my assumption.)

Yeah, I, too, have a bunch of mods in my DCS installation. But when problems arise, removing all mods should be the very first step in debugging. 😉
