Recluse Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 I guess I will have to wait for a video, but thought I would ask. Part of the OB Update included FTT (Fixed Target Track?) for the AG Radar in the HORNET. Was very much looking forward to this! I could not see how to enter this mode, though. I tried cycling through with the AG RADAR MAP OSB to see if it would toggle, but I didn't get there. I guess since FTT is mentioned but not GMT, there is no specific GROUND MOVING TARGET radar mode yet, so for FTT, do we have to manage to find a mover as a Radar reflection in MAP or EXP modes and then bug it to enter FTT? Is GMT (and maybe SEA) coming as well? Thanks!
Harker Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 You enter FTT slew by bumping and holding the SCS towards the radar. You can hold SCS and slew with the TDC and then you enter FTT when you release SCS. The other modes you mentioned are coming in the future. Thanks for that.. so you still have to somehow target a mover from a MAP/EXP view in order to establish FTT (at this time)?

hein22 Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 But does FTT track the moving contact? I don't understand. Stay safe
Binary Posted November 4, 2020 Posted November 4, 2020 Tried it with a speedboat, once I managed to established the track, it showed me its speed on the left and its mag. heading on the right of the brick, see screenshot below: Author of Scratchpad, DATIS, and maintainer of DCS-gRPC.

hein22 Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 Why does GMT exist if we can track moving targets with FTT? Stay safe
Recluse Posted November 5, 2020 Author Posted November 5, 2020 Why does GMT exist if we can track moving targets with FTT? GMT is a way for the Doppler radar to detect and separate MOVING TARGETS from static ones. In GMT, you can see returns that represent only MOVERS.. then you can bug them and go into FTT for designation and tracking. By the way, at least for SHIPS, FTT is pretty cool! Once you have an FTT lock, you can switch to your FLIR and the FLIR will track the target (without the usual POINT TRACK symbology). You can even employ Laser Guided Weapons WITHOUT even bringing up the FLIR page as long as everything is set and you can GUESSTIMATE that you are still within FLIR tracking Parameters. Here's a track using AGM-65F, but I brought up the FLIR just for giggles. No need to have done it. There were lots of static Oil Rigs and other ships so it took me awhile to bug the mover..FTT_MavF.trk

Harker Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 How? I tried but a moving tank is barely visible even in exp3 and commanding a track wont do anything. It's a little tricky, but it works. I tried it on a vehicle convoy driving down a runway. It might be difficult to see a single tank, but a convoy is clearly visible. You also might not manage to FTT your target of choice, but you'll be pretty close. Also works fine for stationary targets. The vCVW-17 is looking for Hornet and Tomcat pilots and RIOs. LastRifleRound Posted November 5, 2020 Posted November 5, 2020 FTT IS GMTT. The literal, only difference between the two modes are that FTT is initiated from any of the map modes or SEA mode. GMTT is always initiated from GMTI. Other than that, it's the same thing. Just helps you remember the mode you came from.
