I would say a Vietnam war era Vietnam map given we have the F-8J, A-7E, F-4 coming and Mig-19 and 21 already in the game. Add to that some more SAM systems of that era and several assets and you have a fairly immersive experience.

The SAM system of that era was the SA-2...oh, and SA-7 "shoulder fired". But who's to say it must be limited to that era? AAA guns are what's needed. I believe 37mm, 85mm, and 100mm with optional radar directors.

There was no choice for Falklands map. Is that still in works by RAZBAM? What is holding it up? They should at least let us play on the map, even if the proper aircraft and ships aren't yet available.

 

As well, it would be a place for 60's and 70's British CATOBAR carriers...Victorious R38, Eagle R05 and Ark Royal R09, along with the Phantom FG1, Buccaneer S2, Sea Vixen FAW2, Gannet AEW3/COD4 and Sea King and Wessex helicopters. In an alternate timeline in which those ships and aircraft were still in service. Along with, say, an American carrier such as Oriskany or Coral Sea operating with the British side, or as if sold to the Argentina side, along with aircraft (Crusader/Phantom II, Skyhawk/Corsair II, E-1 Tracer and S-2 Tracker) and US escort ships of the time...Gearing-class FRAM I destroyers for anti-submarine, Charles F Adams Class guided-missile destroyers, and Albany-class, Galveston-class and Providence-class guided-missile cruisers. I mean, I wish that the war had never taken place. But as a historic wargame scenario...could be quite interesting with all these ships and aircraft, I think. Not to mention that Soviet ships could be included in the mix. This way--maybe-- it wouldn't be a forgone conclusion that a British submarine would just go in and sink the fleet.

 

And all of these aircraft and ships could be used just as fittingly in a Vietnam map!

The map is still in production, you get to see screenshots (WIP) on Razbam's FB and sometimes here in their sub-forum. There seems to be quite some ways to go still. You only have one chance at a first impression, I'm sure they will want to make sure it is ready for primetime before releasing it.

 

As to this poll, I voted Vietnam, I feel this is an area where DCS could really shine with only a few new modules needed. Simple flying, no FBW & stuff. Northern central Europe would feel boring to me, since it is relatively flat (I know, cold war and WW2 action there so it is relevant, but still a bit flat IMHO). Korea would be interesting as well though, same reason as Vietnam.

Why doesn't anybody think of Balkans?

 

ex-Yugoslavia with Adriatic sea, Albania, Kosovo.. NATO airbases in Italy.. so much diverse scenery, coastline with 1000+ islands, fantastic actual cold war infrastructure, e.g. the most expensive underground airbase in Europe, just look at it (original clips from '70s, sorry no english subtitles)

 

And down below a short story about it in English..

 

And there are tons of stuff like this, it's a cold war jackpot map, also with rich WWII history as well as '90s conflicts involving several NATO interventions with actual shooting down of several Yugoslav Mig-29s, and USA F16 and F117. LOTS of history to play with.

 

Would be delighted if anyone should consider it

Nobody thinks Balkans or the Ardennes, or Berlin for that matter, because the engine can not handle it nor make it justice.

 

Recently I see people asking for new maps, like asking for a Personal craft with a Warp engine....

 

Densely populated areas bigger than 500km by 500 kms cant be done.. and people are asking for thousands of densely very particularly populated areas...

 

Unless ED is willing to admit generic areas without too much detail, those maps are not going to happen until we get I-15´s and 1024 Gigabites of RAM are the norm...

 

But then again "generic" is a bad word around here...

That would be great, but probably not possible, due to the large area. A map focused on the baltic sea between Sweden, Finnland, the Baltic countries and Kaliningrad would be great. A map focused on northern Norway, the Norwegian Sea, the Barents Sea and the GIUK gap would also be cool.

Agree about an EF2000 style Scotland, Scandinavia, Iceland map. As others have said it would be a huge map, but yeah... so cool...

 

You could use it for WW2 scenarios also.

you can add the east of Ukraine and part of Russia POSSIBLE to connect with the Caucasus as an option)) the Su-27/25, Mi-8/24, and others would fit perfectly there
