Ferocious_Imbecile Posted May 17, 2008 Posted May 17, 2008 This game should be classified. What year is the technology up to? 1995? I just don't see how they can have pinned down so much authentic detail right down to the flight characteristics. Is there a "story of the creation of BS DCS" floating around out there somewhere?
Prophet Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Its called asking. And then lots of research. Then development/beta testing. I dont believe anything they are doing is considered classified. The information being classified is a reason we dont see the A10C or AH-64 Longbow or others.
SuperKungFu Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I believe they have some friends down at kamov to contact for the ka-50. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
LastRifleRound Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 The Black Shark is desinged for low-intensity conflicts, and has no night-time capabillity. I would imagine they are able to get the actual flight manual for the chopper at this point. If they had a MI-28N(?) or AH-64D at this level of detail, then I think we'd be in the danger zone. A good example of this is the fact that you can get the AH-64A pilot's manual and the F-16 -1 manual online readily, describing to you everything from deconfliction protocols to how to acquire targets with the ground radar using blind off-set aimpoint techniques. Pretty advanced stuff. But you won't come within 2 miles of getting anything on the operational procedures for JDAMS/JSOW release, though many devs can reasonably guess, just like Jane's guessed on how the Longbow radar operated. These two aircraft have been exported to so many countries, that everyone pretty much knows their basic features and either owns them or has enough data to create a reasonable fascimile of their subsystems (TADS/Shkval-V, etc.) Personally, I think it's a credit to ED that they choose only aircraft that they can faithfully 95% re-create in their simulator, as opposed to educated guesses (as fun as the sims thus far that use this technique have been.) This is just a whole new level for simmers in general.
SuperKungFu Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Plus, doesn't ED also have military contracts? only a branch goes towards flight sim for the consumer market like ours. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
SimFreak Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 ED contacted CIA which previously stole all information about Ka-50 and, since Ka-50 lost award, it released everything under information freedom act.
nscode Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 And as for the flight model, it helps that the Ka-50 shares much of its systems with the civil Ka-32. Never forget that World War III was not Cold for most of us.
VMFA117_Poko Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 We don't see how device is made exacly but the effect of its operating and capabilities - in much closer range ofcourse than on airshows i.e. DCS is a great ad for Kamov IMHO. No need to start conflicts to check BlackShark capabilities and then sign overseas contracts ;).
Boberro Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 @Poko24 mate do you really think that somebody sign contract after playing game? :P 1 Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
Weta43 Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Maybe not for a Ka-50, but for a desktop simulator, sure ... 1 Cheers.
VMFA117_Poko Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 @Poko24 mate do you really think that somebody sign contract after playing game? :PSure not. I overreacted even not a bit ;) Ofcourse it's in the doubt 'cuz there is no closly realistic battlefield in the game but because of its flight model (if it's so realistic that army could buy the sim for starting low cost training)... It is marketing campaign - "Remember about Kamov, remember about Kamov, remember about Kamov", airshows, posters, games, movies - everywhere Ka50 shape. It's one of the ways F16 i.e. went too. 1
Avimimus Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 It might even work for Kamov. There are some smaller airforces out there that might be won over if enough of their pilots were won over by playing the sim.
-sulan- Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 It might even work for Kamov. There are some smaller airforces out there that might be won over if enough of their pilots were won over by playing the sim. Indeed I think so too.. People making decisions as to which helicopter to buy are still people, and marketing works on people. But the marketing impact a comercial simulator has on a military aircraft might be small I guess.. But surely it does a little relevant marketing for Kamov, even if it's imeasurably small :P
LastRifleRound Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I don't think the marketing effect this sim may have is really a primary objective of Kamov. The developers who make Steel Beasts are very similar to ED, in that they began creating simulators on contract with various governments to help train their crews (so these countries already have the equipment being simulated, no need to market to them). Since they already have experience (like ED) in the public market, it makes sense to keep that revenue stream open and simply convert the technologies over for commercial use. Now they keep their fan base of flight sim fans, can dual-develop products, and create the most realistic sims available. This approach is excellent news for all of us sim fans, as anyone who has played and enjoyed Steel Beasts ProPE can tell you, it gives you the most authentic, no-frills experience available (as long as you're into that sort of thing.). Maybe it isn't DX10 compliant and there aren't 3 million flyable cockpits with advanced phasic lighting and ultra-pretty clouds (but i must say this sim DOES look BEAUTIFUL) but that one aircraft they do simulate will feel ALIVE. You can probably tell by now I have alot of hope for this product ;) 1
GGTharos Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I was just playing SB PRO with Groove last night. It doesn't matter that the graphics aren't the best in this case, so long as visibility is reproduced faithfully enough ... :D And it ROCKS. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda

It doesn't matter that the graphics aren't the best in this case, so long as visibility is reproduced faithfully enough ... :D And it ROCKS. NICE!!! Think ED will use the dobber system for copy protection as well? It's a big pain in the a**, but I must say I haven't had any problems with it so far.
GGTharos Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I don't know what ED will do for copy protection, I figure that will be announced at release :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
LastRifleRound Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 As long as it isn't StarForce, I think everyone will be happy. Although it would be cool to have a "How we developed Black Shark" segment, where the devs go through how they build their sim. I.e., first we check the manual, so and so went to this base and so this, etc. But not until after release :) The more developers develop and testers test the sooner we get to fly!!
GGTharos Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 I think StarForce no longer resembles the SF everyone made a fuss about. Kinda like LOFC doesn't resemble Lock On 1.00. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Ditch3r Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Actually Starforce still has a lot of problems, and with a new OS like Vista I would be hesitant to install anything that could lead to an instable OS. I for one will look at this closer when BS is released, if they use starforce. However, I don't think there is much debate to be done on it. ED will do what ED has to do, and the consumers will do what they have to do. But from a logical standpoint I don't see why anyone would want to use a copy protections system that most of their customers don't like though, but again, that's not our place to say. https://www.youtube.com/@ditch3rgames
VMFA117_Poko Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 I think I heard sometime earlier that ED think about Steam too, am I right?
Boberro Posted May 19, 2008 Posted May 19, 2008 Recently I read some games weren't secured and were sold much copies... That what human did is breakable by another. Reminder: Fighter pilots make movies. Bomber pilots make... HISTORY! :D | Also to be remembered: FRENCH TANKS HAVE ONE GEAR FORWARD AND FIVE BACKWARD :D ಠ_ಠ ツ
