SOLVED - Flak issue - all campaigns

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

With the Nov 18 update, a serious bug was introduced to German FLAK guns 😞

- Without a KDO sighting unit, Flak 37 won't open fire at all, so some flak batteries will remain silent.

- I set up flak batteries near big cities with a KDO sighting unit to improve their accuracy. These batteries are now so accurate, even on 'average' level, that it's next to impossible to survive passing over them at 20k feet. They now wipe out entire formations.

Please also note that he new DM introduced heavy stutters offline. ED is also aware of this.

I already reported it to ED, they are looking into it. I just wanted to keep you updated. I'll post here if anything changes.

If, in the meantime you encounter this issue and have a track to post, please do. I'll forward it to ED to help them fix this.

Thanks!

Reflected

UPDATE! - 12/17/2020

The November update brought us the new WW2 DM, but it soon became obvious that Flak was not adapted for it. This made all my WWII missions nearly unplayable, impossible to survive.

I reported this to ED, and they came up with a fix in today's patch. The problem is very far from being solved, but it gave me options and room to move: so I updated all my WWII campaigns to make sure they are playable. You will still need to be very cautious with Flak, but it's not possible to complete them anymore.

The good news is that ED is working hard on fine tuning the flak, with historical data in their hands, making it more realistic than ever before. Once they're done with that I will again update all my WWII missions to properly adjust the flak, and take care of this problem once and for all.

Stay tuned!

Hi! I don't know if it will be completely fixed, but in either case, I submitted an update to my WWII campaigns that should make them at least playable and surviveable, even if the flak issue is not fixed. It will just be a workaround, far from ideal, but you can at least play them.

My P-47 campaign is finished and submitted,  it will probably be released around February, but that's still not set in stone.

Yeah, it affects all missions unfortunately. It seems that the burst can be 30-40-50 yards from you and you still get taken out. So when you actually see the burst it's already too late.

That's why I removed all KDO-s and decreased the number of guns considerably for now. Like this it's playable, but you have to be careful.

Once it's fixed I'll rework all the batteries in every mission and make them as realistic as possible.

Update: although not fully fixed, ED improved their flak and I also updated all missions introducing some safeguards to make them playable.

you can expect them to get even better once flak is fully fine tuned. In any case you gotta be careful. Never fly staright and level for over 20-30 seconds and try to fly over flak batteries as high and fast as you can. Low and slow you’re dead meat, but this is actually quite realistic.

With the latest OB, flak explosions were fine tuned, and the accuracy too, so it solves the 'sniper flak' issue that has been plaguing DCS for a year now.

I'm waiting for some feedback from ED, then I will re-check all my missions to make sure they are calibrated for this new accuracy and didn't become 'too easy'.

The editing is a curse...there are so many flak batteries in each mission, and there are so many missions, plus some multicrew versions, plus some channel map versions, it will keep me busy for a while. But on the other hand I'm really glad it got sorted and my missions will be realistic again, hard but possible, as intended.

As players can’t can’t yet pilot bombers, why will the flak still be a threat?

The more I’ve read about the use of bigger Flak eg 18, 36, 37 and 41, the more I’ve got the impression that they wouldn’t have even bothered firing at lone aircraft or fighters, rather waited to concentrate on bomber formations

Because you’re not flying alone. In Wolfpack you’re sometimes flying with as much as 47 other fighters.

Also because in BNBOB per the briefing, you are leading a flight on low altitude ingress with assigned targets.  Or you are returning from an escort and hunting for targets of opportunity.  If you are on the pointy end, flak were sniping SOBs.  Like the first shot from a quiet battery would take you out, which would be the stalag unless you can reach the channel.

@Reflected just watched your YouTube update regarding this.  Fantastic news.  Thanks so much for the huge effort made updating the missions.  Going to jump back into BNBOB and fly a few of those missions again as soon as I am finished with FTB.  -Cheers

This   ...    Sounds   ...    Awesome!

I'm utterly champing at the bit to be able to get back into the warbirds' campaigns. Looking very much forwards to terrorizing those continental squirrels. Thank you once again for both plugging away at making sure the needed changes arrived and for all your effort in redoing all your campaigns (again).

And thanks to the clever lasses and lads at ED for getting the FLAK sorted and significantly improved.

Cannot wait. Cheers!
