F-14A Livery Megapack by Reflected

Hey Reflected, these are all excellent!

@KingKenny04 any of these on the list? I bet he'd tweak them to the time-frames if we asked especially when we know what carriers are coming.

There are only three that stand out to me; VF-1 from 1989, VF-2 from 1987, and VF-2 from 1989.

VF-1: The 1989 livery isvery close to the liveries used during the 1987 Ranger deployment. The only major modification that would be needed is the 1987 livery has the wing code on the inboard side of the vertical stabilizers.

VF-2: From my googling (someone with better knowledge can confirm or correct this), both the '1989' and '1987' liveries were used during Ranger's 1987 deployment. So both liveries are perfect.

One other possibility is VF-84 from 1993. Theodore Roosevelt was deployed in the Mediterranean during 1993, roughly around the same time as the Georgian Civil War. It's a stretch, since for that scenario to work you have to pretend the Montreux Convention doesn't apply or has been changed, and you have to pretend the bridges across the Bosporus don't exist, but it's better than nothing. This time/event would require its own skin as the 1990 skin isn't all that close to the 1993 as far as I can tell.

Reflected, I'd like to encourage you to submit these to the HB livery contest. Right now there's a dearth of liveries that fit the maps and content (carriers) available to us in game, and getting these excellent skins added to the base game would help fill that gap.

Why does everyone say "Enter the contest" This is serious work and they should ALL be included by HeatBlur (and they should be compensated for them). Not just one of them as a maybe for a gimmick promotion. HB is already chugging a few cylinders short due to the A release push, I don't understand the attitude of "No we're going to just re-invent the wheel and do it ourselves."

Get these in the Game so we can use em on Multiplayer dang it!!

Thanks again for all the kind feedback. Following some of your requests I added these 2 beauties to the original post. A lo-viz VF-1 Cat from 1986, and a VF-84 Cat from 1982. These 2 complete the collections of the 2 squadrons.

Two more downloads.

No monotone low viz from 90 to 91 or the black tails with gray/white nacelle stripe from 1992-94? ;)

Thank you all for the kind words! You can 'repay' me by posting screenshots here, using these skins. I'd love to see those :) I didn't have the time to take several shots of each in different settings. :joystick:

Not a screenshot which highlights much the airframe / livery itself, but it seems worth it for me :

Very nice work Reflected !

The sad thing is DCS skin's weight... >200Mo a skin, so the full pack is >5Go. A lot of space disk only for skins... 😞

Between both the A and B I've got 42GB-worth of skins, and only have enough modexes for 2 squadrons 😞

Brilliant liveries though.

Yeah, and then I like to save the original zips in case I need to recover or they disappear... but that's another 20GB zipped up.  Really really need a way to do dynamic modex.  Even if the onus was perhaps on those making the livery.  Maybe some sort of paintkit that only included the extra modex and/or carrier markings?

  • 2 weeks later...

Reflected,

Thank you for this ~10.4->11.2GB package.   Really lovely skins; I look forward to what ever else you might be "brewing-up."

BTW: Is it possible and would you be kind enough to include them into one download file/link as well?  It took all evening to selectively click and download each of them separately (manually).

Thanks.

These are all Excellent! One word of advice though? The old school AIM-54A skins on the seventies themes are great, but they've got blue bands over the booster. This would mean that motor is inert, and doesn't actually contain any propellent. Live boosters are colored with brown bands.

Just out of curiosity, why did the Navy change the colours on the phoenix from white to grey?

Likely it had to do with visibility. The TPS made the planes more difficult to acquire visually and having the missiles match instead of stand out probably helps.
