@SliderCDN your Windows Defender is still scanning DCS and you're low on page file. There are also errors for coremods... any mods left in your \saved games\dcs\mods ?

Hi there, I am in trouble with almost immediate crash at the very few seconds or minutes after mission start. I did the cleanup and repair successfully, unfortunately crash still exist.

The 2.5.6 worked well, now updated 2.7 made this trouble. Log attached.

Please don't hijack my thread 🙂

I can't event start base game with 2.7, therefore Saved Games folder is not created and there are no logs.

could this be a firewall and / or DNS issue? "timeout period expired" could be caused by not being able to connect to the update servers.

https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/support/faq/authorization/#2286023

ERROR: Couldn't resolve host name

When you try to use DCS updater to repair or update, it can not connect to server and you get an error saying couldn't resolve host name.

from log file - autoupdate_log.txt - located in root DCS World folder you can see:
ERROR: digitalcombatsimulator.com replied HTTP -1
ERROR: Couldn't resolve host name

Then how was I able to download the base game?

I can through the steps and it's all good. The error above only comes up after I try to start the Updater about 15-20 times. It just doesn't start 95% of the time and once it does, I get the above error.

@SliderCDN - ha! do a search for your error message on Google and you are number one on the search results. you are totally famous! but seriously something is timing out.  i think our efforts should concentrate on this message.

Well, google adapts search results individually, so we'll all have it differently.

And if my Updater is reaching the server, then it's not on my end? I downloaded the base game fine, but can't get the modules?

Hm...so why would I be timing out and Updater stop working after base game download?

I'm following this topic quite a while now. Solution: i have none.

But what i would do is start with the very basics, just to rule out everything else. The problem has to stop somewhere.

If you have an empty SSD, disconnect all others.

- disconnect everything but monitor, keyboard and mouse.

- install Windows, do not set anything up besides monitor res but that should go auto normally.

- install DCS and try to run with only keyboard and mouse. Just set the monitors res and don't touch any other settings (should not matter but the less you change, the more virgin the installation stays). If you download the updater from the ED website, you directly have 2.7...

- If it doesn't run, could be a hardware problem inside PC, power supply, RAM, motherboard (i needed to replace mine a while ago due to weird stuff going on from time to time)...

- If it runs, slowly connect more stuff and run between each step.

PS:  If you want to go fast and connect and install everything from the first run, you'll keep stumbling...

PPS: Be sure remove all overclock (if any) before starting !!!

Already did all that, I am now running on just my C drive with just DCS and with 2.7 it's marginally better, but still 75% of time game crashes on start and other 25% is crashes after random about of time (5 minutes up to 6 hours).

My PC is fine, everything else worked before and works now without a hitch.

  • 3 months later...

I am back and so are the crashes. I was gone for almost 2 months on a trip, updates my DCS and here we are. CTD when trying to start DCS, 1 out of 20 attempts will make it to the menu, but will crash shortly after. Errors from earlier in this thread are not present.

Hi, your crashes seem to be caused by erroneous files inside the /CoreMods folder.

If you don't have a fast connection, try this first:

  1. Go to "\DCS World OpenBeta\CoreMods",
  2. Run a search for  *.lua  like this:  image.png
  3. Wait for the list to be complete (Windows will find ~1270 files), select all listed files (LCtrl + A) and delete them.
  4. Run a DCS repair (it will download about 5 MB of data).

If you do have a fast internet connection, try this instead:

  1. Go to "\DCS World OpenBeta\CoreMods",
  2. Delete all its content,
  3. Run a DCS repair (it will download about 50 GB of data).

Don't accept indie game testing requests from friends in Discord. Ever.
