Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,:pilotfly:

Our Summer Sale is in full swing and we are thrilled to announce that the Steam sale is also live and will run until the 8th of July. Enjoy up to 50% discount on most of our modules and campaigns. Check them out.

Leatherneck Simulations have been working hard on their next aircraft, the DCS: F4U-D Corsair. Their current efforts are focused mostly on finalising the cockpit. Take a look at their development screenshots below.

Our partners at Heatblur Simulations have made notable progress to DCS: F-14A/B Tomcat. The latest Open Beta includes improved aircraft arresting physics and new carrier burble effects, bringing this fabulous aircraft one step closer to its final version.

We are pleased to announce that DCS: C-101 Aviojet by Aegres has moved to final release state. This module is feature complete and we encourage you to check out what Aegres Media has in store for you next. In Development Screenshots.

Thank you for your passion and support,

DCS: F4U-D Corsair

Development Report

Hero1.png

The F4U-1 is one of the few aircraft without sidewalls and a floor.  Because of this, many of the Corsair’s vital components are exposed. Using manufacture drawings and original aircraft as references, the vast majority of panels, cables, pipes, and switches have been recreated to a high degree of detail.

Each area has been checked in VR to ensure that nothing a pilot would see is missing.  Updates and texture adjustments to the cockpit model are in final development.

Hero2.png

Systems development is also largely completed. Hydraulics, electrics, and basic weapon systems are operational, and Leatherneck Simulations will continue to tune them as tests proceed. The AN/ARC-5 Radio and navigation equipment tests were completed earlier this spring.

The decision to add the AN/ARC-1 radio set is still pending. Smaller items such as the oxygen equipment and the emergency landing gear extension system are also work in progress.

Hero3.png

The full inventory of British and U.S. weaponry will be presented closer to release. A number of stunning new features will make the DCS: F4U-1D Corsair truly unique.

Read more of their development report in the Leatherneck Simulations 2021 Summer Update.

DCS: F-14A/B Tomcat

Development Report

Hero4.png

A new mass dynamics engine brings a whole new level of realism to the F-14A/B. Unless it is landed correctly, the F-14’s arrestor hook will now skip over the deck to mimic realistic hook-bolter events. Under extreme conditions the hook can also fail and detach from the fuselage. Such realistic features truly encourage you to improve your skills and achieve by-the-book recovery procedures.

The aerodynamic effects of aircraft carrier burble on close-approach have also been implemented. The ICEMAN pilot AI has also been improved. The AI can now navigate to specific waypoints and enter a holding pattern. Other significant improvements include:

  • JESTER reporting
  • Night catapult signalisation
  • Autopilot logic overhaul
  • Multi-crew synchronisation

Hero5.png

The Heatblur team is now focused on developing the next update of the exciting Tomcat and Viggen features, ultimately bringing both of these aircraft out of Early Access.

F-14A Fear the Bones

Campaign by Reflected Sims

Hero6.png

It is April 1989, and the cruiser USS Valley Forge has been involved in an incident in the Black Sea, off the coast of the Soviet Union. The USS Theodore Roosevelt is being sent to support the rescue operation with VF-84 on board. Jaws, Jester, Ghost, Pyro, Caveman, Grip, Elvis and Glory, all hot shot F-14A Tomcat fighter jocks of the ’Jolly Rogers’ squadron are itching to see some action. They might just get more than they bargained for.

Join them in fighting MiGs, intercepting Bear bombers, defending the fleet, escorting Alpha strikes, and much more in this story-driven campaign. Kick the tires, light the fires, and make them Fear the Bones!

DCS: C-101 Aviojet

02 July 2021

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,:pilotfly:

This week we announced Open Beta 2.7.3 with powerful, new, under-the-hood features that enhance our unprecedented flying experience. DCS: Marianas provides an immersive,  more natural environment that introduces our latest graphical technologies to render crisper details at low level flight. The beautiful islands of Rota, Tinian, Guam and Saipan are amazing to explore, and they are packed with unique, high quality assets throughout. You should not be surprised to learn that this map requires higher performing PCs to get the most detail.

After the launch of DCS: Mi-24P Hind, our dedicated Hind team has been working to eliminate recurring crashes, as well as stabilising the first iteration of the Petrovich AI. Various bugs have been fixed, and we encourage you to read the full changelog. The Hind’s external damage model is now on par with DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight, and work has begun to improve tail rotor damage. The ammo counters for cannon and gun pods are now fully functional, and the Petrovich AI is able to determine ATGM launch distances. Next, we will be working on Petrovich’s  ability to scan the environment and report targets and threats.

Please note that for a limited time, up to 50% discount is available on all of our products, including campaigns.

Thank you for your passion and support.

Yours sincerely,

Eagle Dynamics Team

DCS: Marianas

Early Access Available

Hero1.png

We are committed to building the world’s best maps, and DCS: Marianas takes us even further down this road with brand new ways to navigate and explore. You will experience enhanced detail in cities and neighborhoods, commercial districts, airfields, ports, elevation, new buildings, new road colours and signs, custom-designed landmarks, and a new night-time mode with varied street lighting throughout.

Hero2.png

For many of you DCS: Caucasus has become indispensable, and this year we’ve created more ways to enhance the DCS combat experience. Being a free map, DCS: Marianas brings our online community together with no purchase requirements. The Marianas brings an all new environment to play in with new missions.

Hero3.png

DCS: Marianas is running on our latest EDGE 2.7 graphics engine. To fly this map you will need to download the latest Open Beta and head over to the Module Manager. We are looking forward, as ever, to your feedback. Please check out The Marianas Release Trailer.

Mi-24P Hind

Development Progress

Hero4.png

Petrovich will now be responsible for countermeasures and will automatically select new ones when required. We are now working on giving “him” an interface for the ASO-2V panel.

We have also added a delay in response from the Petrovich interface. This delay emulates the time between commands being given and heard over the crew intercom.  Work on the Petrovich voice overs also continues apace.

Hero5.png

Petrovich will now inform you when reaching your desired course, altitude, or speed, and “he” will confirm RoE orders for ATGM launches. Although Petrovich has errors in determining distance to target, for now “he” will dynamically range +/- 300 meters. In later updates we will improve the error modeling by taking into account all the factors that play a role in building this error.

Hero6.gif

In the latest patch, we've added the implementation of the ammo counter panel. KMGU-2 fixes have been made and we have resolved engine control desync issues.

Looking ahead, our priorities are on Petrovich AI upgrades (including flying skills), further resolving de-sync issues in multiplayer, enhancing ATGM sight picture in VR and 2D, and improving overall key binding logic. We are also actively working on known issues and new-found bugs. Thank you for your reporting.

23 July 2021

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,:pilotfly:

We are currently preparing DCS: The Channel for final release. Along with a broad set of enhancements and optimisations, you will soon find the addition of the Amiens Prison that includes a comprehensive structural damage model. Multiple cosmetic fixes and improved scenery around unique objects are also included in the next update.

DCS: F-16C Viper is undergoing a bug-fixing phase as we prepare to add the next set of weapons, sensor improvements, and new avionics functions. We have added the AGM-154A JSOW,  and you can find more details on it here DCS: F-16C Viper | JSOW.

We are also improving DCS: F/A-18C Hornet and look forward to sharing more details on the flight model improvements soon. To avoid confusion and help you better understand the radar and its limitations, we have prepared a tutorial on DCS: F/A-18C Hornet | AA Radar Use. We have also created a tutorial on JHMCS alignment for the best HMD accuracy DCS: F/A-18C Hornet | HMD Alignment.

A number of new ground units have also been included in the latest Open Beta update, and as always, we look forward to your constructive feedback.

Thank you for your passion and support.

Yours sincerely,

Eagle Dynamics Team

DCS: The Channel

Preparing to Release

Hero1.png

We are completing work on all existing airfields and resolving aircraft collisions with static ground objects. AI taxiing logic is also being improved.

Multiple cosmetic bugs have been resolved, and new unique objects and support facilities have been added to provide a more realistic appearance. Improvements also cover the road/rail network, the Citadelle d’Arras, and more.

The area around the city of Amiens has been reworked to include much more detailed buildings, trees, and bushes.

DCS: F-16C Viper

Development Report

Hero2.png

Based on our roadmap, we are pleased to announce that the Wind Corrected Munitions Dispenser (WCMD), or “Wick-Mid”, will be coming to DCS: F-16C Viper later this summer.

The WCMD is cluster munition that will correct for wind effects and errors during a ballistic fall and turns a "dumb" cluster munition into an accurate "smart" weapon. With the addition of this weapon, you will be able to independently assign multiple WCMDs to targets in a single pass (using multiple steerpoints as targets). WCMD versions include the CBU-103 with 202 BLU-97B submunitions and the CBU-105 with 10 BLU-108 Sensor Fuzed Weapon (SFW) submunitions.

Hero3.png

In this video, we’ll look at the AGM-154A Joint Standoff Off Weapon, or JSOW, for the Viper. The JSOW is an unpowered glide bomb that weighs approximately 1,000lbs. It has a range of up to 70 miles depending on launch altitude and airspeed. It is a fire-and-forget weapon that uses INS and GPS to reach its designated Sensor Point of Interest (SPI) target. Check out DCS: F-16C Viper | JSOW.

DCS: F/A-18C Hornet

Development Progress

Hero4.png

Perhaps one of the most complex and confusing aspects of operating the Hornet is correct use of the air-to-air radar. We hope this video will provide you a better understanding and more successful use of this radar. DCS: F/A-18C Hornet | AA Radar Use.

Hero5.png

JHMCS Alignment Procedure

When performing a cold start, the JHMCS will now require alignment. This must be completed to avoid alignment issues with the symbology. If you are performing an auto start, the alignment will be completed for you.

As the new process is mandatory on cold start, we have added a new tutorial outlining the JHMCS alignment procedure, check out DCS: F/A-18C Hornet | HMD Alignment.

NASAMS

New Ground Unit

Hero6.png

NASAMS (National Advanced Surface to Air Missile System)

NASAMS is a Norwegian-developed, medium-range SAM system that was introduced in the mid 1990s. Utilising the proven AIM-120 AMRAAM missile, and combined with a MPQ-64 Sentinel 3D radar, it presents a formidable threat to aircraft and helicopters at low- and medium-altitudes.

A typical battery consists of 3 launchers, each with 6 missiles, a radar unit, and an FDC fire control unit. NASAMS is in service with a number of countries, including the USA. It is notably used to protect high value targets such as the White House in Washington DC.

This ground unit is now available in the latest Open Beta update.

We are improving the external model using newly acquired blueprints. Improved 3D modelling techniques have allowed us to include finer details. As a result, the smallest rivets, welds and fabric seams are visible.

Hero3.png

At Early Access stage DCS: Mosquito FB Mk.VI will have different skins available, including those used in the famous Operation Jericho. The remainder of the work will be focused on finalising the bulged bomb-bay fairing and hydraulic bomb doors, the wing pylons and external fuel tanks. This will allow DCS: Mosquito FB Mk.VI to carry two 500 lb bombs internally (with fins cropped to fit) plus another two under the wings.

DCS: P-47D Wolfpack

Campaign by Reflected Simulations

Hero4.png

’Zemke’s Wolfpack’, the 56th Fighter Group, was one of the most famous fighting units of the USAAF during World War II. Flying the P-47 Thunderbolt throughout their time stationed in England, the group had more ace pilots and destroyed more enemy aircraft in air combat than any other group.

A large archive of detailed pilot combat reports is available online, and Reflected Simulations has endeavoured to recreate these historical events in DCS World as they happened.

This campaign is now available on our Eshop and on Steam.

Roadmap

Hero1.png

DCS: F-16C Viper roadmap is now planned until the end of this year. Please note these are our current plans as of August 2021 and are subject to change.

Some features require a lot of effort and time, like HTS/HAD and AG radar, while the others are not as complex and can be completed sooner. We’ll start with the highest ranked and feasible features, and continue to bring you more and more DCS: F-16C Viper functionality.

Please read the DCS: F-16C Viper RoadMap on our forum.

DCS: Mi-24P Hind

Development Progress

Hero2.png

The majority of the Hind’s development team are currently having a well deserved vacation; however, we will still deliver a number of improvements in the upcoming patch. Most noticeably, a fully remodeled Pilot-Operator ATGM sight picture. The improved sight will use a new auxiliary camera instead of the MFD indicator functionality. All textures for the sight were also redrawn in higher resolution, providing better frame rates and visual quality.

VR implementation of the ATGM sight was a high priority too, and it will now occupy the whole view port with some free movement to reduce motion sickness. Dampening has been added to remove small twitches of VR motion sensors affecting the sight picture. We are currently testing more options for switches, which previously were only toggles as well as fixes for those commands that were not mappable to controllers.

DCS: AH-64D

History

Hero2.png

A revolutionary attack helicopter and battlefield game-changer, the AH-64 grew out of the U.S. Army’s 1972 ‘Advanced Attack Helicopter program.’ This identified the need for an attack helicopter that could outperform the AH-1 Cobra in terms of firepower, battlefield effectiveness, survivability, and range. The primary mission would be to counter a massed Soviet tank invasion in Europe if the Cold War turned hot. With the need for better close air support capability evident from combat experience in the Vietnam War, the Army specified that the AAH was to be armed with a 30mm cannon and 16 TOW anti-tank missiles compared with either a 7.62mm minigun, 20mm cannon and just 8 ATGM on the AH-1, and be able to survive 23mm AAA hits.

The Army selected the Hughes YAH-64A for its better damage-resistance and stability. The missile armament specification was changed to include 16 AGM-114 laser-guided Hellfire missiles. The first prototype was flown on 30 September 1975. The AH-64A entered U.S. Army service in April 1986.

In August 1990, development of the AH-64D was approved and it entered service in March 1997. The AN/APG-78 Longbow radar and sensor suite can detect and track up to 256 targets simultaneously out to a range of 50 km and engage up to 16 using “fire and forget” missiles. The system’s raised position above the rotor hub allows the gunship to do this while remaining in cover behind buildings, trees and masking terrain. If there are more targets than a single AH-64 D can handle, the Longbow’s systems allow it to stream targeting information to friendly air and ground units.

The AH-64D has extensive combat experience from 1991 in the Liberation of Kuwait to Iraq, Afghanistan, the Gulf, Syria and Libya. More than 2,400 AH-64s have been built and it remains in frontline service with many nations around the world.

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,

DCS: F-16C Viper will receive the long awaited Dual Target Track (DTT) radar mode in the next Open Beta update. To get familiarised with this, please check out the DCS: F-16C Viper | Dual Target Track.

With DCS: The Channel currently being prepared for final release, we would like to share some of the on-going progress being made to this highly detailed map. The addition of a snow-covered winter season and various new unique assets including; piers, forts, cathedrals, churches and graveyards have been added.

We are keen to share our development progress of the IHADSS system for DCS: AH-64D with you. The Integrated Helmet and Display Sighting System allows either the pilot or co-pilot/gunner to slave the 30mm chain gun to their line-of-sight. This allows the gun to track head movements and aim where they look. Please check out the details below.

In the next Open Beta update, look out for the new S-200 (SA-5) Surface-to-Air Missile (SAM) system that was first fielded in the 1960s. Still operated by a number of countries today, it is primarily used to defend large areas from medium- to high-altitude bomber attacks. We have modelled the Syrian Army SA-5 system, which uses the STU-68U search radar, giving it a maximum range of 150km. We plan to develop another long-range SA-5 search radar soon.

Thank you for your passion and support.

Yours sincerely,

Please find below a list of all new unique assets that will be included;

  • All St. Birchington
  • Belfry Of Dunkirk & St. Eloi Church
  • Church of St Laurence Ramsgate
  • Church of St Mary and Eanswythe
  • Citadelle d’Arras
  • Dover Town Hall
  • Fort d’Ambaleteuse
  • Graveyard near Amien Prison
  • Hastings pier
  • Mairie de Dunkerque
  • St Augustine's Abbey Ramsgate
  • Church St Leonard
  • Church St Mary

We have adjusted the minimum and maximum temperature values for the seasons Winter, Autumn, Spring, Summer. Many improvements have also been made to trees, settlements, roads, bridge LOD models and airfields. Destruction models have also been added.

A number of significant fixes have also been made and bugs along construction and building routes, as well as unnatural ground forms along river embankments have also been fixed.

AH-64D

Development Progress

Hero2.png

The Integrated Helmet and Display Sighting System (IHADSS) includes a monocle that provides imagery to the right eye. Based on extensive research, we have done our best to closely match the ergonomics and accurately recreate this view from the pilot and Co-pilot/Gunner positions. In addition to slaving the 30mm chain gun, the IHADSS also provides both pilots important flight, navigation, weapon, fire-control and sensor information.

The Modernised Pilot Night Vision System (MPNVS) is a infrared camera on the front of the aircraft that is also slaved to the helmet’s line of sight. This allows the pilot to see in the dark within the confines of the IHADSS and gimbal limits of the MPNVS.

S-200

New unit

Hero3.png

The design of the Soviet S-200 (NATO SA-5 Gammon) began in the 1950s to counter the growing threat of western high altitude bombers and spy planes. An SA-5 battalion usually consists of six single rail launchers, a ‘Square Pair’ tracking and guidance radar, as well as either the P-14 Tall King, or in more recent times; the STU-68 “Tin Shield'' search radar.

The massive 5V28 missile is over 10 meters long, and each weighs 7 tons at launch. Aided by four jettisonable boosters, the 5V28 can engage targets at long ranges. Detonation of the 215 kg warhead can be triggered by proximity fuse or command signal.

Given the missile's size and the distances that it can operate over, the SA-5 is most effective in the defence role against large, less maneuverable bombers, tankers, and AWACS aircraft. However, it can still present a significant threat to unwary, small fighter-sized targets. The SA-5 that we have modelled is based on the Syrian Army system that uses the ST-68U search radar, providing a maximum engagement range of 150km.

F-16C Viper

Development report

Hero3.png

An aircraft’s sustained turn rate is the rate at which the aircraft can turn while sustaining a constant airspeed. This is an important aspect of the “rate fight” in close air combat. We have prepared a white paper document that compares DCS: F-16C Viper to real-world Viper sustained turn rates DCS: F-16C Viper Sustained Turn Rates.

Below 20,000 feet, the acceleration and Instantaneous Turns Rates (ITR) are accurate, however we continue further refinements above 20,000 feet. We also continue to research high G-onset that will improve nose authority, essential for the final phase of close air combat, especially in guns mode.

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,

We continue refining our AIM-120 AMRAAM with much improved velocity search and tracking algorithms. This development should be available to you in the next Open Beta 2.7.8 update.

In the new year, we plan to replace the entire line of pilot models for Russian aircraft and helicopters. This week we are pleased to share our progress on the ZSH-7AP helmet that will initially be available with DCS: Mi-24P Hind. Please check out the screenshots below.

We are currently working on the TADS/PNVS combined sensor and targeting unit. This is a vital component of the advanced weapons systems on board the AH-64D and we look forward to bringing you the next lesson in the DCS: AH-64D Tutorial Series by Matt Wagner, coming soon.

Thank you for your passion and support.

Yours sincerely,

Eagle Dynamics Team

AIM-120 AMRAAM

Development Progress

Hero1.png

Thank you for your continued patience and support since the initial release of the updated AMRAAM model. This sophisticated weapon has demanded quite deep remodelling and debugging and we found several issues in the missile velocity search and tracking algorithms. We have also made substantial improvements to HOJ and visual modes. The next stages of development are realistic range gating modelling to enhance the missile's onboard radar to contend with strong ground clutter returns.

Mi-24P Pilot

Development Progress

Hero2.png

Progress on the new pilot model for the VKS and the Armed Forces of Russia is going well and the replacement of the entire line of pilots for Russian helicopters and airplanes in the early part of the new year is on track. In the screenshots presented, you can see the ZSH-7AP helmet for the MiG-29, Su-27 and Su-33 fighters with the KM-35 oxygen mask and the NVU-7 helmet sighting device. The helicopter version of the ZSH-7AP helmet is equipped with the DMSH boom microphone for the Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters.

AH-64D

Development Progress

Hero3.png

The Target Acquisition and Designation Sight (TADS) is equipped with a stabilised daylight television camera, a Forward Looking Infrared (FLIR) camera, and a laser rangefinder / target designator for targeting by displaying video to crewmembers’ Helmet Display Unit (HDU) or TEDAC Display Unit (TDU). It can also be displayed on the Multi-Purpose Displays. The TADS FLIR can also be used as a Night Vision Sensor for night flying by either crewmember. This allows the TADS to be slaved to the helmet line of sight of either crew member for nap-of-earth flying under near total darkness. The TADS cameras have multiple fields of view that allow the operators to see large areas for enhanced situational awareness or zoomed in for precise targeting at long ranges.

The DCS: AH-64D TADS FLIR camera is also being developed to showcase our new FLIR rendering technology that will provide a much improved and more realistic portrayal of the world as seen through infrared. This same technology will also be used for other FLIR sensors in DCS targeting pods such as the infrared-guided Maverick missiles.

We look forward to providing you with a preview of the current progress in the very near future. Stay tuned!

Thank you for your passion and support,

26 November 2021

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,

Development on the AH-64D module is going well. However, due to progress on the “George” AI and flight control system components, we have decided to postpone the Early Access release to the end of January 2022. This additional time will allow us to further develop the flight control systems, hold modes, damage model, missions, skins and other items. As a token of our appreciation for your pre-orders, we are increasing your pre-order ED miles up to 8,500.

We would like to share progress on the current status of the AH-64D Flight Model. We have achieved a good simulation of the powerplant and flight dynamics behavior when compared to the real-world data numbers. This machine is truly sensational!

Please note that the Steam Autumn Sale 2021 has begun and will continue until the 1st of December. Come and enjoy up to 50% off most of our products. We kindly remind you that our eShop sale will continue until the 6th of December 15:00 GMT.

Thank you for your passion and support.

Yours sincerely,

Development Report

Hero1.png

Powerplant

The detailed model of the T700-GE-701C powerplant, its Hydromechanical Unit (HMU), and Digital Electronic Control Unit (DECU) have been developed. This includes the compressor and its hydromechanical unit, compressor turbine, combustion chamber, and power-turbine.

Calculations of the angle of attack on both the compressor and turbine blades allow us to determine dependencies between the power-turbine state (main rotor RPM rise or fall for instance) and the state of the compressor, which in turn affects the behaviour of the power-turbine. This allows our model to closely match realistic behaviour in the transition processes for speed changes, main rotor pitch changes, and anti-torque pedal routines.

Hero2.png

The engine, DECU and main rotor characteristics modeling have achieved an accuracy error of 2-3% for documented normal flight parameters and 4-5% for emergency flight regimes and environments (high temp. from 35°С and above as well as high altitude low density regimes).

Hero3.png

Engine, Flight and Fuel Pages

The Engine page provides important data on the aircraft's engine torque, temperatures, RPM, and main rotor speed. The Flight page includes heads-down information on the performance of the aircraft with the ability to set important mission flight data. The fuel page includes an intuitive display of the fuel storage, flow and transfer systems.

Please watch the latest video in the AH-64D tutorial series
