12 June 2020

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,
:pilotfly:

This week our third-party partner Ugra Media announces DCS: Syria as a new addition
coming soon to DCS World. This will be one of the most complex and asset-rich terrains
available and is the first third party module to be written using our updated code base.

Another update to DCS World Open Beta has launched this week with the goal of optimising
some of our older modules and enhancing the user experience as a whole.

A special thank you to the growing number of developers, Community and partners who
contribute so passionately. You make our dreams come true.

Thank you for your energy and support and as always, fly safe.

Yours sincerely,

Syria

A DCS World Terrain

EN_Hero1.jpg.005054a4aba521a2608e72642c0f1eb8.jpg

This week our third-party Ugra Media announced that DCS: Syria is approaching it’s final

stages of development. This map covers most of the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea,

it includes several climatic zones and territories of 5 states - Syria, Israel, Lebanon,

Turkey and Jordan.

Since the times of Ancient Egypt, the Roman and Ottoman empires, large-scale wars were

fought across these lands. Thousands of years ago these battles were fought with swords

and arrows, today these areas have become the theatres of grandiose air combat simulation.

During the Arab-Israeli confrontation, Soviet MiGs, American Phantoms and French Mirages

fought here. And today almost the entire arsenal of DCS combat aircraft and helicopters rise

into the sky above this territory.

DCS Syria will bring 32 aerodromes including the international airports of Damascus, Beirut,

Adana and Haifa.

Check out the Ancient Palmyra districts Development Screenshots.

Open Beta

Updated DCS World 2.5.6

Hero2.jpg.c5003e32f56f200e620619ad73d19e20.jpg

We have been enhancing the core of DCS World. With your feedback and the release of

DCS: The Channel, we have been able to streamline texture and save game pre-loading.

We are still working on the F/A-18C Hornet and F-16C Viper features and will share more

information at a later date.

Two Open Beta Updates were published, our focus has been on some earlier DCS World

modules, with the aim of setting the standard across our range of modules. Various

Second World War campaigns by Reflected Simulations have been updated and now

include the P-47D Thunderbolt as an AI aircraft. This includes the LF Mk.IX Spitfire The Big Show Campaign.

The F-14B Tomcat by Heatblur Simulations has received aerodynamic updates and

increased compatibility with DCS: Supercarrier.

The MiG-21bis first phase cockpit build was pushed to fix bugs in the external model.

The volumetric lights for the gauges are new and we look forward to your feedback

regarding any FPS loss.

Night Attack

AV-8B N/A V/STOL

Hero3.jpg.c2d7b1be2daff0c0b3f6d32a718bd643.jpg

The McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) DCS: AV-8B Night Attack V/STOL is a single-engine

ground-attack aircraft of the second generation Harrier Jump Jet family.

The Spanish and Italian Navy both actively operate the AV-8B V/STOL. The Night Attack

was first seen causing real havoc with the United States Marine Corps during the Gulf War

of 1991. Since then it has served in multiple large operations, most notably the Iraq War

of 2003 where 60 AV-8Bs were involved in over 2,000 sorties and enabled 24-hour ground

force support. The marvellous machine continues to provide exceptional realism and withholds

many features a Hornet Pilot could only dream of.

Capable of vertical or short takeoff and landing (V/STOL), the Anglo-American development is

the perfect addition to your aircraft-carrier compatible modules.

In response to some of the recent complaints pertaining to the recent two Open Beta
updates, we have decided to focus our efforts on bug-fixing for the coming four weeks.
We will also be slowing down the OB releases in the future in order to permit broader
QA and testing. We hope that this will improve stability and diminish some of the
frustrations that many of you have felt, especially in multiplayer.

We are glad to announce the DCS World Summer Sale 2020 has started and will run
until the 13th of July. For DCS World Steam Edition, the sale will start on the 25th

Bug Killer

Beta Testing

Hero1.jpg.6e65ae79843ae72e8dc2d07137c576a9.jpg

After the last two Open Beta (OB) releases, we received motivating feedback from our

community pertaining to issues in need of immediate attention. We have logged and are

actively tracking over 2,500 bugs. In the last week, we have squashed close to 283 bugs

and will continue this pace for the next two weeks.

We have decided to change the release schedule of DCS World Open Beta in order to allow

for more detailed Quality Assurance and testing periods, but most importantly for our team

to fix bugs and enhance performance.

WWII Radars

Freya and Würzburg-Riese

EN_Hero2.jpg.5754a64627e755bdbab888f086972f99.jpg

The Freya radar was an early warning system developed by the Germans and technically

more advanced than the British Chain Home, but less efficient. Because of it’s smaller size

it was semi-mobile. However due to its complexity, only 1,000 units were produced.

The low-band 53cm wavelength Würzburg radar was the primary ground based radar for

the Wehrmacht’s Luftwaffe. During the war, the Freya and Würzburg pair made for excellent

‘spot and track’ systems capable of determining enemy aircraft range and altitude.

The Würzburg-Riese known as the Giant Würzburg was developed based on the same circuitry

and featured a much larger 7.4m antenna and more powerful transmitter able to provide up to

70 kilometers of range. The Würzburg-Riese was used to direct pilots towards incoming aircraft.

Over 50,000 bombers were traced and shot down with the help of these radars. They are

significant corner stones and mark the beginning or electronic warfare.

We are excited to share our progress and look forward to your battle reenactments using these

models and the countermeasure tactics needed to cope with German radar coverage.

DCS: Kiowa Warrior

Artboard 1.png

3rd July 2020

Dear Fighter Pilot, Partners and Friends,
:pilotfly:

Our third-party partners Polychop Simulations have been working hard during the past few months
on DCS: Kiowa Warrior. “As you have seen, there are a number of detailed videos about the
DCS Kiowa Warrior on Youtube, and we are very thankful to have Barundus and all the other pilots
on the team.” -
Your Polychop Simulations Team

Alongside the substantial bug-fixing schedule, we have been making improvements to our DCS World
Voice Chat system. These are necessary steps needed to achieve our goal of high quality, realistic
communications embedded within DCS World. We still have a way to go but we are confident that it
will be up to user expectations when the system goes final.

We would like to kindly remind you that the DCS World Summer Sale 2020 will continue on our

until the 19th of July. For those of you who fly in DCS World Steam Edition, the sale will end on the 9th
of July at 10:00 PST. We hope this will give you all a chance to land some great deals and add some
serious stuff to your hangar.

Thank you for your passion and support.

Polychop Simulations

Hero1.jpg.29e57aca4aba1e318300f35b330325b7.jpg

“With the help of the pilots we are currently evaluating details, which also includes the refinement

and corrections of the avionics system of the aircraft. During the coming weeks, we hope to inte-

grate the moving map feature to the avionics and also finetune the weapons and the flight model

of the Hellfire missiles and will integrate another rocket type, that we have not shown or talked

about yet, that will make it possible to properly engage infantry and light armoured vehicle units in

DCS World.

During the past months we have also worked on certain aspects of the flight model that either

needed corrections or refinements. For example, the torque values of forward flight at all possible

altitudes, speeds and temperatures. Currently, we are working on the hover torque requirements

to accurately mimic real aircraft as closely as possible. We are also looking at the flight character-

istics below ETL, effective translational lift.

Performance pages have recently been added to the DCS Kiowa Warrior MFD, which will enable

you to ask the system to calculate your power for certain flight envelopes in level and hover flight.

Night vision has also been added, which we plan to update prior to release with a new feature never

before seen in DCS World Helicopters, but we do not want to reveal anything yet, because we can

not yet foresee obstacles we may come across that might delay such a special night vision feature.

We are confident that on release, we will have realised the most accurate Kiowa Warrior representation

in the game market.

At the moment we have 19 US Army liveries of various Kiowa Warrior troops, these include older

aircraft markings. 16 Croatian army liveries were added as well, which is the complete fleet of the

Kiowa Warriors they operate, including the tail number 327 that crashed on the 27th of January 2020

and resulted in the unfortunate loss of the aircraft and crew. Our condolences go out to the family and

friends of the crew.

Since everyone was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, our production has slowed down a bit during

the past weeks, because we as a team were also affected. Nevertheless we are back to normal again

and our team is back to normal status because we have the desire to keep our promise for a release in

2020, which also includes the time required for the quality verification process by Bell Helicopters.

That said, we are also currently working on 3 stand-alone campaigns for the DCS Kiowa Warrior.

Finally we hope everyone stays safe and is excited for the release of DCS: Kiowa Warrior.”

Voice Chat

Development Report

Hero2.jpg.7f0e762c594caa2ceaa4c2bc1962ab19.jpg

We continue to work on improving the functionality of Voice Chat in DCS World.

At the moment, testing is underway to add player rooms and the ability to invite friends for private

communication. In addition, the automatic creations of rooms between the crew of one aircraft (intercom)

and the ability to create special missions rooms for coalition forces. This is done through the scripting

trigger system function when creating missions. It is useful when specific communication channels are

needed with air traffic control, sub-channels within squadrons and with ground crew. These features are

planned for release in the upcoming updates.

Following the update, the Voice Chat Development Team will be focussing on the integration of radio device

voice communication in the game. We understand that this function is highly demanded and greatly appreciate

your patience whilst we work on it.

Dear Fighter Pilot, Partners and Friends,
:pilotfly:

Since our commitment to bug-fixing in DCS World 2.5, we continue to work with bug reports
as we prepare for the next Open Beta (OB) release. The slowing down of OB versions allows
us to improve stability and diminish some of the frustrations that many of you have felt,
especially in multiplayer.

This week we are excited to share further progress on DCS: Syria. Our third-party partners
Ugra Media have been working hard on realising Damascus airport in its entirety. More info-

Preparation

Hero1.jpg.d4c2465a9353cb064e1e4214e7467c39.jpg

Our bug-fixing process enables us to better prepare for the next DCS World 2.5.6 Open Beta

release. This week we have been working on small graphic glitches whilst continuing to improve

the overall load time and frame rate when running high graphic settings. We are also working on

multiplayer server glitches seen in large missions, these issues were reported by our closed Beta-

Testing Teams.

We have started the final test and debug iteration to ensure we deliver a reliable OB. We would like

to thank all our internal and beta tester friends for the efforts needed to find, engage and destroy the bugs.

DCS: Syria

A DCS World Terrain

Hero2.jpg.9433f6b2b77aed9338e237ce287c35fa.jpg

DCS: Syria is a unique theater of war that includes missions and campaigns of military confrontation

in the Middle East from the 60s to the present day. This project allows users to apply nearly the entire

arsenal of DCS World aircraft, helicopters and ground equipment. It also includes the possibility to re-

enact some of the largest military conflicts of our time.

- The Six-Day War of 1967

- The Arab-Israeli conflict of 1973

- The Lebanese War of 1982

- The War on International Terrorism in the 21st Century

The reasons for these conflicts were ideological and economic contradictions not only of the countries

of the Middle East, but also of the USA and USSR superpowers. DCS: Syria is a symbol of real modern

war. The Syria theatre will contain military confrontation sites such as Homs Province and Aleppo Citadel,

Golan Heights and the Bekaa Valley. Ground-based anti-aircraft missile systems, unmanned aerial vehicles

and air-to-air missiles were used here for the first time on a large scale. About 900 airplanes and helicopters

were destroyed during these conflicts. Read more on our forum.

In the next publication, we will talk about Beirut International Airport, the Israeli military airfield Ramat

David and the largest US Air Force base in the Middle East – Incirlik.

31 July 2020

Dear Fighter Pilot, Partners and Friends,
:pilotfly:

This week we leaked the features set and announced DCS: A-10C II Warthog.
We would like to take this opportunity to discuss some of the features that will
be available. These include the Laser-Maverick, Scorpion Helmet Mounted Cueing

We continue to improve the Mission Editor (ME) and enhance the Historical Mode filter.
If you want to use equipment from a given era, simply click the clock icon. This will show
aircraft and equipment that were in service within the selected country and year. This mode
can be turned on and off during mission creation if you need to select objects outside of the
chosen year. We hope this will help facilitate the creation of mission scenarios.

Our bug fixing exercise continues at full strength and we trust that the next OB release will be of interest.

Thank you for your passion and support.

Yours sincerely,

Dynamic Campaign Engine

Artboard 1.png

7 August 2020

Dear Fighter Pilot, Partners and Friends,
:pilotfly:

This week we are excited to share our progress on DCS World Dynamic Campaign Engine.
This is quite a big step for us and despite the slow progress, we are optimistic that it will
be a great enhancement to DCS. We cannot give you a firm initial OB release date yet as
things are still quite raw, but we will keep you updated regularly as the next milestones
come to pass.

Our third-party partners TrueGrit Virtual Technologies are working hard on the
DCS: Eurofighter Typhoon. Please check out some of the cool stuff they are up to below.

We would like to thank our internal and external Beta-Testers Teams for the relentless
testing and reporting in the lead up to the upcoming OB in mid August. We are optimistic
about the rate of bug squashing and trust that performance will also improve in the
coming releases.

Thank you for your passion and support.

Yours sincerely,

Dynamic Campaign Engine

For DCS World

hero1.jpg.9d731a21a67bf992703d9281e9a17add.jpg

The DCS World Dynamic Campaign Engine combines a Real-Time Strategy (RTS) engine

with military forces and economics layers (production, logistics, use and transfer of resources)

that pitch two opposing sides aided by advanced strategic and tactical AI.

We have now completed the core RTS logic and have connected it to DCS World. We are

currently finalising the basics of the in-game economic models. We will be working on the

combat tasking logic and certain win-win situations in the near future. The last stage will

be the Client - Server architecture needed to support large campaigns with on-going

online sessions.

We are certain that you will have many detailed questions and look forward to revealing

more information on this module as and when we are in position to demonstrate some

of the features live.

Eurofighter Typhoon

Development Report

hero2.jpg.de190566cf69c4eaf8664d525d7916c1.jpg

‘We at TrueGrit Virtual Technologies would like to take this chance to give you some latest

updates concerning the Eurofighter Typhoon Development. It is with great pride that we can

officially announce a collaboration with Diehl Defence GmbH.

Diehl Defence GmbH is located in Überlingen, Germany and is the manufacturer of the soph-

-isticated IRIS-T missile. They are offering us full support in bringing the most realistic version

of the IRIS-T to DCS World – as always within the limits of what can be released to a public

platform like DCS. It will be available to you with the initial launch of the German Eurofighter

Typhoon Version and will be your main heat seeking missile. With this collaboration we have

come one step closer to bringing you the most realistic experience of the Eurofighter Typhoon

possible.

We are working at full throttle on all areas of the project and are making good progress. The

progress picture by the almighty Fragger shows the latest version of the cockpit.

We would like to thank you for your unwavering support and enthusiasm, as it is a constant

reminder of what we are working towards and motivates us to give our best. You can be sure

that every post, comment and feedback reaches us and is very appreciated. ‘

P-47 Thunderbolt

Upgrades

hero3.jpg.1dd3025ecd3a4f03f72053d6edae9d51.jpg

The P-47 proved to be a formidable fighter-bomber due to its armament, heavy bomb load

and ability to absorb enemy fire. The P-47's durability was due in part to its exceptionally

dependable P&W R2800 radial piston engine, which unlike comparable liquid-cooled engines,

had a high tolerance for damage. P-47 pilots frequently carried two 500 lb (227 kg) bombs,

using a favoured skip bombing tactic, skipping bombs into railroad tunnels to destroy hidden

enemy trains.

We are currently working on the bomb arming controls and detonation set-up adjustments.

We are also working on the D-30 early and D-40 variants. Both versions include new modifi-

-cations and improved damage modelling. These updates will be available in the up-coming

DCS World Open Beta (OB) updates.

A-10C II Warthog Preparation

Artboard 1.png

04th September 2020

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,
:pilotfly:

We are on track to release DCS: A-10C II Warthog and are currently working with
operational pilots to ensure small adjustments are made to the Flight Model where
required. See below for more information on the status of work in progress.

In late 2014, DCS: MiG-21bis was the first third-party module released and remains
one of the most beloved fighters in DCS World. We would like to share some of the
great progress made to this wonderful module, especially in regards to DCS: Syria.

Thank you for your passion and support.

A-10C II

Preparation

EN_Hero1.jpg.a1f8bcb25b0c6971eb6d9f71aad6ef14.jpg

We are doing our best to meet your highest expectations and intensive internal and

external beta-testing is underway. Currently we are working on improvements to new

weaponry (APKWS, laser-guided Mavericks and bombs). We are also working hard on

all current bugs with scheduled fixes coming in further updates.

MiG-21bis

Development Report

Hero2.jpg.04a755298a44aeb451d04af5843e8c5a.jpg

Most importantly a long awaited update to the cockpit mesh was finalised, which

substantially improved the precision of cockpit geometry. This will be particularly

appreciated by VR users.

Visual improvements were followed by a new Flight Model as well as Avionics and

Weapon System enhancements such as the recalibration of all the instruments.

Significant ground clutter causes performance degradation when the RP-22SMA

radar is used in low level flight, this has yet to be resolved. Small corrections to

the lift coefficient at lower Mach numbers were made. Structural damage caused

by exceeding G-load limits is now dynamically calculated depending on aircraft weight.

Hero3.jpg.5d382daf46b9e483549b31b675644822.jpg

The addition of navigation data for DCS: Syria has been added, as well as a number

of new missions. An overhaul of almost all air-to-air missiles is also in progress.

We are experimenting with a more realistic rendering technology for the ASP gunsight

and RP-22SMA radar. Magnitude 3 has expanded the Leatherneck Simulation team

who are now working on DCS: MIG-21bis, and two other projects...

Hero4.jpg.1a9e0aab8cfac1bfeb6d830351df0450.jpg

Mi-8MTV2

Crew - Part One

Hero5.jpg.2bcc91b01aa160783ddfea3712453d30.jpg

A new crew campaign from Stone Sky is available for DCS: Mi-8MTV2 Magnificent Eight.

Set in the extremes of Northern Russia, this campaign will test your skills at all stages of flight.

Experience the immersive atmosphere of the arctic on Bolshevik Island in the Caucasus

where the Mi-8 helicopter is still a demanded transportation mode. Your base is situated

at the Solnechnaya Polar Station refinery complex, within the territory Severnaya Zemlya.

Complete day and night time exercises still in use by the Russian Army aviation. Destroy

ground targets in combat training flights and lead combat missions, which require perfect

management to enable a safe return to base.

Voiced radio messages in English and Russian give an insight into the civil aviation work

carried out in Arctic Russia. Your adventure awaits!

This campaign requires knowledge of navigation equipment, avionics and helicopter control.

Thank you again for your passion and support,

Kind regards,

11 September 2020

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,

In support of the UK-based charity MIND, please join us for the 24-hour Live Stream
Event, which will take place at 1900Z today. Find out more on

We are working hard to release DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer. Particular attention is being
made to the buffet and stall flight dynamics, the implementation of the Helmet Mounted
Cueing System (HMCS), creation of mission content, updating the flight manual and
finalising the instruction videos. We look forward to sharing more information closer to launch.

In addition to the ongoing bug fixing, we have been focussing on DCS: F/A-18C Hornet.

In July we released DCS: Syria in cooperation with Ugra Media. This outstanding map offers
great geographic variety, high attention to detail and extensive gameplay. To celebrate its
success we have created a second Syria map video for your pleasure,
.

We thank you for your passion and support.

Yours sincerely,

We will be hosting a 24-hour DCS livestream on the Tactical Pascale’s Youtube Channel to raise money for Mind,

a UK-based mental health charity who work directly with those suffering.

A team of committed virtual pilots from our community will be flying in DCS World for a full 24 hours, only

pausing to host livestream events like Giveaways, Competitions, and live community challenges. There will

be live training sessions, and we'll be playing the latest homemade “Arabian Nights” campaign mission that

includes a 3-hour operation with real-player ATC, GCI, mission commanders, and 30 virtual pilots.

A-10C II Tank Killer

Development Progress

EN_Hero2.jpg.6e083310b2323e2e2d74ac50a8d92ce3.jpg

As we prepare for the release of DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer by the end of this month, we are carefully checking

the Flight Model’s buffet and stall implementation, instantaneous turn rate, sustained turn rate, and maximum

speed at different altitudes. These checks enable measured parameters to match the flight manual charts with a

precision to within 3%.

We found that buffeting affects the airframe at a lower AoA than is stated in the manual, this affected aircraft

handling during deliberate stalling. We are working on this issue, which will result in a significant improvement

to overall aircraft behavior in this phase of flight.

In parallel, many of the new systems are now functional including laser-Maverick, APKWS, and the GBU-54 LJDAM.

Work continues on the Helmet Mounted Cueing System (HMCS) and associated HOTAS commands and updating the

cockpit and external art.

F/A-18C Hornet

Updates

hero3.jpg.b304316ce5224fa674cac0c80da0b01f.jpg

This week we fixed an issue with A/G radar heading figures overlapping when switching from Map to EXP1-2-3.

Other strange behavior when switching between A/G radar EXP modes and A/A radar has now been resolved.

When Unlimited weapons mode is activated, the salvo / ripple replenishment levels now display correctly. Threat

circles on SA page now show even if the threat Icon is not visible. The SAM threat rings draw order on the SA page

has been fixed. Swapping HSI/SA on left and right MDI now functions correctly.

A fuel transfer issue from external tanks has now been fixed. Radio volume issues and the COMM AM/FM change on

the UFC have been fixed.

The ‘Throttle - HOTAS Warthog’ and ‘VPC WarBRD + MT50’ now have updated presets.

Thank you again for your passion and support,

With kind regards,

Development Report

EN_Hero2.jpg.b44ff5473f26840d984793bcad7e2af6.jpg

We will be introducing two expansions to DCS: P-47D Thunderbolt. The P-47D-30 (Early)

modification will become available; equipped with a Mark 8 gunsight, an earlier version of

the control stick and throttle lever, as well as modified bomb dropping mechanics. From the

exterior, the model is easily distinguishable due to the absence of the fin strake in the upper fuselage.

Our second modification is the P-47D-40 with rocket capabilities. These rockets are the familiar

HVARs and the M8 rockets, both used extensively by the Allies in large numbers during World War II.

The aircraft bombing loadouts have also been expanded.

Coming soon: integration of water methanol injection, improved engine damage modelling, and

compressibility recovery using underwing dive flaps.

2 October 2020

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends, :pilotfly:

We are pleased to announce that DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer is now airborne. After substantial

internal testing, we are confident the flight model and weapons will surpass your expectations.

The HMCS consists of several sub-systems, in this video, we’ll focus on the Helmet Mounted

Display (HMD) and the Profile Editor:

We would like to share our development progress on DCS: Supercarrier. In Open Beta 2.5.6

we added CVN-75 Harry S. Truman. We are currently finalising the key commands to activate

cut lights and wave off lights from the LSO station. We are also working on new pilot flight suits

and more fluid animations.

A new 12 mission historical campaign based in 1944 is now available for DCS: Fw 190 A-8 Anton.

This campaign includes historically accurate liveries, detailed briefings and mission specific kneeboard

cards and checklists. Complete missions such as patrol, intercept, bomber escort and ground attack.

Thank you for your passion and support.

Yours sincerely,

Eagle Dynamics Team

A-10C II Tank Killer

Released to Open Beta

DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer adds new weapons such as; the Advanced Precision Kill Weapons

System (APKWS), AGM-65L laser-Maverick, and GBU-54 laser-guided JDAM. A completely

remodelled cockpit with options for factory-fresh and weathered textures. The “Scorpion”

Helmet-Mounted Integrated Targeting (HMIT) system used to train the 355th Wing cadets

and the updated external model now set the bar for our future releases.

We have updated the preset key commands for HOTAS hardware to make new users feel

more comfortable learning this in-depth system. The fully interactive Forward Air Controller

(FAC) will also help you find and engage enemy targets, cooperative target engagement has

been taken to a new level.

With the improved ability to command ground forces, the vast number of land, air and sea units

as well as feature-rich cooperative missions and head-to-head multiplayer; We are proud to say

this is the most realistic model ever done for PC simulation.

Pricing Policy

DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer is available now for $79.99. If you own DCS: A-10C Warthog, you can

upgrade to DCS: A-10C II Tank Killer for only $9.99 until the 31st of October 2020. After that,

the upgrade will cost $19.99.

The upgrade option and module are both available on Steam and Eshop now.

A new addition to the renowned A-10C is the Helmet Mounted Cueing System (HMCS). It provides

excellent situational awareness and the ability to cue weapons and sensors by just looking at the

target and setting a designation. Please note that this is not the same helmet implementation as

for the Viper and Hornet systems; it is in many ways far superior.

Damage Model

Artboard 1.png

09 October 2020

Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,
:pilotfly:

We are currently working on improving AI logic and in particular Air to Air combat behaviour.
This results in a revised set of combat rules and more human-like outcomes while in offensive
and defensive maneuvers.

The new World War II airframe Damage Model will now take into account more detailed principles
such as: load-bearing elements, their material, control systems, electrical systems, geometric
dimensions and explosive characteristics of various ammunition types.

Raven One is a new DCS World Campaign developed with help from former U.S Navy pilots,
both with over 3,000 career flight hours and numerous overseas deployments.

Air Combat

New Features

EN_Hero1.jpg.9e5afee40a510c1bb271d285f59876c6.jpg

Our improved AI will encompass variable decision making protocols dependent on a continuously

calculated environment in order to enhance fight/disengage/run behaviour. The AI will make

emergency landing decisions on land or water (ditch), it can also react in case of sudden attacks

even if the attacker is not visible. If there is light damage, it will attempt to evade the ‘unseen

attack’ and search for the attacker. When damage is more serious, it will evade and RTB where

and when possible. Potentially the damage can be too high and the only solution is bailing out.

Damage Model

Development Progress

EN_Hero2.jpg.baffc96074b99cb0a450d7975be7cc6d.jpg

Closed beta testing is now in final stages as we plan to release for public testing at the end of

this month. The new damage model will also be integrated into WWII AI bombers.

Each aircraft has unique hydraulics, pneumatic and electrical systems and materials. As a result,

the predicted damage depends on the type of munition, munition velocity dependent on distance

and location of impact. The internal effects such as engine/radiator damage, coolant or oil tempe-

rature variation, loss of pressure, loss of control or other effects will generate the corresponding

internal and/or external visual effects.

We have deployed this technology to all our World War II fighters, and we trust that the long wait

will be worth it and we hope that it will be to your demanding expectations.

Check our latest In Development screenshots.

The instantaneous turn rate was tested and improved. It was noticed during this test

that maintaining near-stall AoA was a bit tricky due to buffeting.

We have tuned our buffeting model to match the reference charts and then, the tests

were conducted again in the same conditions. Load factor fluctuations are now gone,

resulting in the ability to maintain near-stall AoA.

GBU-38

Development Report

image_259482.jpg.bcc9920749479f5eb83967ac86376af2.jpg

The key feature for this updated JDAM is the new autopilot. This weapon now incorporates enhanced

trajectory laws and provides the capability of programming for an impact with a specific terminal heading

and vertical angle. These options are designed to improve weapon effectiveness depending on the type

of target. The graph below demonstrates this effect.

Effect of desired terminal vertical angle on GBU-38 bomb path

Due to aerodynamic restrictions precise impact points are not always possible, in this case, JDAM uses

an algorithm to check the impact heading and vertical angle. If the check indicates a noticeable miss,

the algorithm will seek for conditions that will allow for an on target hit. In addition, to reduce the probability

of a near miss and to improve ballistics penetration, the autopilot will command a zero angle of attack during

the last seconds of flight.

Viper AGM-65

Updates

We encountered a target lock issue with objects in close proximity to the desired enemy. Symbology errors

on the WPN page will be fixed in the next update. The seeker depression angle markers are currently being

adjusted as well as the Sensor of Interest (SOI).

In the next Open Beta update, the addition of the BSGT option and uncage ability will be added. The LOS

handoff indication on HUD can also be expected. The possibility to engage target lock with two missiles

prior to launching the first will also become available. It will be possible to ripple fire two locked-on missiles

with RP 2 option. We are also working on the TMS-right re-command handoff.

Damage Model

Development Report

EN_Hero2.jpg.8101b925434b6259e9344c12dbb6836a.jpg

We are happy to announce the start of open beta tests of our new Damage Model for WWII aircraft on

Eagle Dynamics multiplayer servers. We will start today with fighters and then make the new bomber

damage model available on November 18th. To participate in these multiplayer tests, please join any

of the servers mentioned in the list here: https://forums.eagle.ru/forum/englis...ers-are-active

The new damage model is based on accurate damage and destruction modelling of aircraft components

in relation to the location of internal elements in each aircraft - oil, air, hydraulic and cooling systems,

engine and propellor installation, throttle and CSU controls, flight controls including trim connectors,

and airframe main strength longerons, spars, and stringers. The new damage model system precisely

calculates hits to these internal aircraft systems as the projectile passes through the aircraft. This allows

us to accurately simulate the actual damage to the aircraft and the flight model. For example: damage to

the wing skin leads to a decrease in lift; damage to the spar leads to strength reduction, and potentially

wing snap at specific loads.

New visual effects have also been added to help interpret aircraft damage. A white, reddish vapour trail

indicates that the hydraulic system is damaged, and the size of the trail indicates the size of the leak.

A fine, brownish haze indicates that the oil system is damaged, and that the engine will probably soon

suffer oil starvation, engine overheating, and potentially fail. A bright white trail of steam indicates that

the radiator, or part of the cooling system, is damaged. The instantaneous evaporation of water during

the explosion of a water jacket will envelop the plane in a large cloud of steam for several seconds.

A fine white vapour trail is the typical sign of a fuel leak.

Combustion can also help to identify the damage source. A burning fuel leak gives off dense white/grey smoke,

and depending on the size and type of leak, it can eventually result in a fire. When the engine/airframe is engulfed

in flame, the smoke often turns black as it mixes with oil that burns with a much deeper and darker hue. Structures

made of aluminum, wood or fabric-covered surfaces can also combust based on the corresponding type of projectile.

Such smaller fires are not immediately visible, but you can identify the smoldering of elements by the thin streams of

dense smoke trailing behind the aircraft.

Additional information can be gained from visual damage. Despite the fact that current computers can’t dynamically

bend construction and tear fuselage and wings, our Visualization System is a good indicator of the level of aircraft

damage. The system works as follows:

- We have 4 levels of ‘damage textures’ for each aircraft: from 0 - no damage to 3 - max damage.

- First bullet hits result in the 1st level with small damage visible. This allows players to see some damage from

the first hits.

- With further damage, the 2nd and 3rd level textures will appear.

Experienced pilots can check all the damage levels within the Model Viewer for a better understanding of what to

expect from the holes in the airframe.

Please note that the damage system doesn't register any damage for the first 30 seconds from mission start.

Dear Fighter Pilots, partners and friends,:pilotfly:

As you are aware, last week we updated DCS World Open Beta 2.5.6. This week we
released a patch to cover some of the more pressing issues. Please read the

This week we would like to present a MiG-29A/S Fulcrum CFD Case Study
and the workbehind our flight modelling of this iconic aircraft.

To give you more insight and a better understanding of the development processes, we
would like to share our work in progress on the DCS: Mosquito FB Mk.VI.

As always, thank you for all your passion and support.

MiG-29 CFD Study

How it’s Done

hero1.jpg.273d856a19835d17d60502c9694b0e72.jpg

We finished some highly detailed research to further examine the MiG-29 behaviour in various stages of flight.

We use this research to improve the accuracy of our flight model. Our goal today is to share the depth and

capabilities of this approach.

The research tasks were the following:

  1. Evaluate the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) results by comparing obtained coefficients with available
  2. data from documents.
  3. Find the stability margin in different landing configurations and the amount of deflection required to trim the
  4. airplane at landing AoA out of ground effect (OGE).
  5. Find the stability margin during flaring in ground effect (0.5 m from the main wheels to the surface) and
  6. trimmed stabilator deflection at landing AoA.
  7. Investigate “Stabilator deflection ON LANDING” in “Practical aerodynamics of MiG-29”.

Read the MiG-29 CFD Study.

DCS: Mosquito FB Mk.VI

Development Progress

hero2.jpg.e3213e45e40999ec351d355780fc7398.jpg

The de Havilland DH.98 Mosquito was a lightweight, fast, maneuverable and highly versatile aircraft. It’s long

life first began over Oslo, Norway raiding the Gestapo headquarters with pinpoint accuracy, this opened new

avenues for precision weapons development.

The Mosquitos’ sleek design and high powered engines gave it the ability to fight in many roles such as fighter

-bomber, night-fighter, tactical bomber, high-altitude night bomber, pathfinder, intruder, maritime striker, and

photo-reconnaissance aircraft. It went on to be used in a wide range of different operations, mainly targeting

industrial sites in occupied Netherlands, Norway, France and Germany. The Mosquito ended the war with the

lowest losses of any of the aircraft types in RAF Bomber Command service.

DCS: Mosquito FB Mk.VI will be the first flyable twin-engined piston aircraft in DCS World.

We are currently working on the fuel systems by carefully creating and linking nine fuel tanks that contribute

to the exceptional range and endurance of this aircraft. We are also working on the electrical system, which

comprises a 24 volt DC generator on the starboard side and an alternator on the port engine that also supplies

AC power to the radios. The electrical generator also powers the fire extinguisher.

In parallel with these systems, we are currently working on the cockpit instruments and controls and invite you

to check out the In Development Screenshots.

Thank you again for your passion and support,

Kind regards,

F-14A (late)

Release

hero1.png.7f56f45b49711682ac95cc452de383c4.png

“The F-14A was the first 4th generation fighter aircraft and needs little to no introduction. It was introduced

to a widespread audience early on and has been admired ever since. It’s remarkable capabilities both in

A/A and A/G made sure it remained in service longer than its successors and it is still in active service with

the IRIAF today. It’s fame is unparalleled and presents sheer excitement and tough challenges to its pilots.

As we continue on our journey of building the most well known and certainly the most iconic variant of the

Tomcat around, we continually re-evaluate what our goals are with the -A and what we want to achieve.

Based on this process, we’ve ended up by expanding our original scope, and will be shipping the following

F-14A variants in the coming months:

F-14A-95-GR: Early F-14A for IRIAF. These jets will have certain limitations and modifications, such as the

lack of TCS and fuel pylons.

F-14A-135-GR (Early): This will be an earlier representation of the F-14A, equipped with the ALR-45 RWR

and will also come with a number of minor variations such as early gun vents, alternate de-fog systems,

and other minor differences between late and early ALR-45 equipped F-14A’s.

F-14A-135-GR (Late): This version represents a later, ALR-67 equipped F-14A.November 18th saw the

release of ALR-67 equipped F-14A-135-GR (Late). While this represents a closer analogue to the current

F-14B, it also allowed us to roll out the F-14A in a controlled, stepwise process. The ALR-45 equipped

F-14A will not be far behind, which will not only introduce more significant changes in cockpit avionics,

but also implement the full overhaul of RWR and EM spectrum emissions upgrades planned for both

the ALR-67 and ALR-45.

Wednesday’s patch also included the introduction of yaw strings and a complete sound overhaul among

many other items. Check out this short sample video of the new sound. For more info please see

the full changelog here.

We hope you thoroughly enjoy the challenge of flying and taming the iconic F-14A!”

Sincerely,

-
The Heatblur Team

The dive recovery flaps used for faster pull outs during dive bombing and when in compressibility have

been added to the Flight Model. The water injection system has now been implemented to maximise the

power output of the R-2800-59W engine.

Forced water injection causes the turbocharger pressure to increase and actuates a derichement valve

in the carburettor. When water is injected the fuel-air ratio decreases, this provides fuel economy without

risk of detonation.

Our on-going work on the new Damage Model has led us to tune the durability of certain structural elements.

This has improved G overload limits when the aircraft is damaged.
