Manual bombing and reticle position

Hi all, a quick question about manual bombing: with reticle value = 0, shouldn't the reticle position be aligned with horizon if flying level flight like in the picture? What is meant, otherwise, for the reticle value = 0. How is it calculated the starting position of the reticle?
Thanks all

The ZSL is a fixed position relative to the airframe and the pipper an adjustable position relative to that. Flight path angle during any attack is something that's calculated on the ground. The academics of calculating manual pipper solution is a deep subject. For an introduction I suggest chapter 3 of https://www.cnatra.navy.mil/local/docs/pat-pubs/P-1209.pdf
