tomeye
One month in VR world with G2 and I can say the most confusing part was SteamVR with the resolution value. I could not keep my self to set anything less than 100% After reading this post I can enjoy 40+ FPS!
bomber
Thank you big newy!!, I had a rift s and just had a g2. Struggling with settings, tried yours and it’s fantastic , with headroom still. JazonXD
Hey @BIGNEWY, thank you so much for your help on this thread, I'm wondering if you still have any more suggestions as I've still be struggling with performance. DCS 2.7.7, I copied your Nvidia and DCS settings exactly except for the new settings that appeared due to 2.7. Those settings (such as clouds) I set to the lowest possible. On the regular Caucasus map I'm still only getting 60 FPS at SteamVR 54% (this is the A-10C "Hard" quickstart mission) My rig is a RTX 3070 and 5600X, 32GB RAM. DCS is installed on an NVME drive. Thank you! AMD 5600X -- Gigabyte RTX 3070 Vision -- 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 -- HP Reverb G2 -- Logitech 3D Extreme Pro -- Thrustmaster TWCS BRRRT! Car and aviation enthusiast, gun nut and computer nerd! Thank you! Hi, If you want you could probably squeeze some more fps out, but it will be at the expense of how things look in game. Shadows off, no MSAA, dial down the preload radius until you find the frames you want, but 60 is not bad currently. I would be inclined to wait until we have multicore, then adjust accordingly. I have changed now to a 3090 so I should update this thread really, I still prefer to go for higher frames over looks currently, but I am getting great performance currently even after upgrading to windows 11. ED Team BIGNEWY Posted November 7, 2021 Author ED Team Share Posted November 7, 2021 My current VR settings for high frame rate, this is not for making it look great. I can dial up the settings if I wish and still get good frames and quality, but the purpose of this thread was for maximum frames. main changes are windows 11 and a RTX 3090 SteamVR %60 Images attached 1 Forum rules - DCS Crashing? Could you explain how preload radius affects fps? I thought this was related to graphics memory and as long as you have the mem you are good to set it at maximum. Al-Azraq
So I'm new in VR as well and decided to try these settings. I was running DCS at around 80-100% SteamVR resolution and settings on mid-low with MSAA aiming for 45 FPS and while reprojection runs well and I could deal with it, I decided to try aiming for 90 Hz. I disabled MSAA and reduced the resolution to 54% and I can keep 90 hz while in the air! I disabled also reprojection as it has a 10% computation cost more or less so when I'm on the F-14A using cold start Nellis instant action mission, I sit at around 70 FPS which totally doable. I have more shimmering of course, specially when on ground as there are more non-aliased elements such as fences, columns, lights, etc. but I'll get used to it. With this I don't get ghosting from enemy planes passing by and total smoothness. Clarity within the cokpit is great and enough. Sure 80-100% looks better but DCS is unoptimized in VR. Looking forward for Vulkan, with newer AA techniques we should see a great improvement in image quality and hopefully better performance as well. i7 12700KF | MSI Z690 A-PRO | Corsair Vengeance 2x16 gb @ 3200 Mhz | RTX 3070 Ti FE | Acer XB271HU 1440P 144HZ | Virpil T-50 CM throttle | Virpil WarBRD Base + MongoosT-50 CM2 Grip | MFG Crosswind | TrackIR 5 | HP Reverb G2 Bf 109 K-4 | Fw 190 A-8 | Spitfire LF Mk. Al-Azraq
Just now, Sr. said: Have you tried this? https://github.com/fholger/openvr_fsr/releases Yes, I tried it for 100% SteamVR resolution and 0.8 on FSR and it worked great in order to keep 45 FPS with reprojection. However, I'm not so sure it provides and advantage to just using 80% SteamVR so I decided to keep it simple and just use the SteamVR resolution. I'm very happy with 54% to be honest. i7 12700KF | MSI Z690 A-PRO | Corsair Vengeance 2x16 gb @ 3200 Mhz | RTX 3070 Ti FE | Acer XB271HU 1440P 144HZ | Virpil T-50 CM throttle | Virpil WarBRD Base + MongoosT-50 CM2 Grip | MFG Crosswind | TrackIR 5 | HP Reverb G2 Bf 109 K-4 | Fw 190 A-8 | Spitfire LF Mk. edmuss
My shimmering is all but removed by running 100% with 2x MSAA + MFAA. The clouds on the horizon are still aliasing and jittering but nothing to be done about that at the moment, on the whole the rest of it is shimmer free. Running VRperfkit @ 0.75 with 0.2 sharpen I think. I've not tried it at 50% resolution but it might be interesting to see what it does, I suspect having run at 100% it will be too much of a horror show Edited January 28, 2022 by edmuss Ryzen7 7800X3D / RTX3080ti / 64GB DDR5 4800 / Varjo Aero / Leap Motion / Kinect Headtracking TM 28" Warthog Deltasim Hotas / DIY Pendular Rudders / DIY Cyclic Maglock Trimmer / DIY Abris / TM TX 599 evo wheel / TM T3PA pro / DIY 7+1+Sequential Shifter / DIY Handbrake / Cobra Clubman Seat Shoehorned into a 43" x 43" cupboard.
